Apple is probably the best example of this. It’s a well-known meme that Apple bring out the same product yearly packaged as the new iPhone. they’ll add a few changes but other than that, there hasn’t been too much innovation. It makes sense when you think about it. The iPhone is already perfect, what more does it really need? Apple takes their consumers through a slow timeline of innovation. They know you like their product as it is and so they cautiously add new changes yearly while minimising the drastic changes. Even when they made a drastic change (three cameras, removed home button), their competitors follow, so where would they innovate from there?
In summary, yes, ensure you have a great product and something that can grab attention but don’t feel like you have to be completely innovative because, in a market such as fashion, it’s hard to come up with brand new ideas. It can be counterproductive to the point where you’re not making progress.
Other factors such as presentation, your brand concept and customer experience, are where you can really spend time to stand out and rise above competitors.
