My impression of Maximus was that he was saved by the Brotherhood of Steel. His fridge scene reminds me of Pacific Rim and the backstory of the Japanese girl in that. I think it even used kind of similar imagery as when she got saved. But I agree with you on his morality. The Ghoul has a hardened morality though it isn't always nice. Lucy has an idealistic morality. Maximus is more self interest though he wants to be this idealistic knight character its a think he wants for himself more than to help people. But I don't think he's beyond redemption or anything. He's young.
The song "Battle Hymn of the Republic" that plays at 12:09 is actually part of the game, specifically Fallout 3 where it was usually played on the Enclave radio.
It's funny to think that "When things look glum vote for someone from 31" is seen as a strong motto and Betty's competition thought he had really put in a lot of effort on his campaign because he had put up 10 posters. We also had the line about how "everybody" likes jello cake better than apple pie. Jello powder has a much longer shelf life than apple pie filling so it's the better choice for vault dwellers but they've apparently been gaslighted into thinking that they prefer jello. Last episode we heard the ghouls on the outside, people who haven't been so controlled, saying how much they like apple pie.
Not so much that Vault 31 "exports" ready-made Overseers but that the folks they trade away always seem to end up elected Overseer of 32 & 33... which raises even more questions. Glad you're enjoying the series - I know it sent me back to playing FO again.
I think Star Wars is more comparable to TLoU actually, because it started also as a linear story rather than this big universe that it became over the years. There's technically a lot of potential stories to tell within the universe of TLoU too, outside of our known main characters from the games. 14:07 Her name is Cricket. 17:16 No... Maximus clearly wouldn't have joined them if they did and he idolizes them heavily. 19:55 Vault 4, you see it before the reflections. And they're far far away from Lucy's Vault.
BoS is nuclear armed (mini nukes and nukes) They might've nuked Shady Sands (if had TRUE reason only), either way Max would not know who did it, joined BoS cause Max saw them the power capable of doing something about those injustices..
My thoughts on Maximus' odd behavior and occasional bad decision: consider how many head injuries he's received in these few episodes. The poor fool is probably concussed 30% of the time. Might even have a traumatic brain injury at this point.
We've been blessed with two excellent shows in 24', Fallout and Shogun with a possible third upcoming with House of the Dragon season 2. Always enjoyed your reactions Neil, may there be many more. I love what they've done with the character Maximus. It would have been so easy to cast for stereotype in that role. They didn't. He's complicated, unsympathetic, borderline unlikable and unpredictable. Very human. The character studies in this show were the biggest surprise for me and a very welcome one.
While the later games don't really take place at the same place Fallout 1 and 2 do, they are more or less taking place at the same place just 2 generations later with a bunch of call backs to the previous game in Fallout 2.
You're gonna absolutely love the next few episodes as everything kinda goes off the rails until the last episode where it all just comes together and blows your mind!
The scene between Maximus, Lucy and the Fiends on the bridge feels very much like a dialogue wheel moment. I saw a great video that did a funny edit of it by AdventuresOfSly
Fallout show works well because Bethesda and Todd Howard were involved, just as if they were creating a new game. This storyline is not only the backstory pre-war, but continues the story beyond the last game.
Vaults 31, 32, and 33 are all connected - far behind where Lucy is now at the hospital. Why would you think this new location, so far from where Lucy started is _right back where she started_ ?
I agree! That’s my favorite book series, and the first book Wool was originally recommended to me (over a decade ago) because I was a huge Fallout fan.
@@Dark__Thoughts Yeah. I've enjoyed the show too (I am not familiar with the book series, so can't say how much it differs from that). I believe it was renewed for season 2.
@@ArathirCz It has been, yes. Though, I feel without enough attention that might going to be it. Unfortunately reactors typically only go for the popular stuff or what people pay on Patreon for. And Silo really needs some more exposure.
Ah another maximus hater who needs to invest in more Perception 😂 1. You must have missed the part where Titus threatened maximus's life once he was healed. 😂 2. I love when Maximus makes his detractors EAT THEIR WORDS after the bridge scene. Who's more competent again? Lucy STILL had her hands up after the shootout😂 3. Maximus fails CHARISMA/SPEECH checks, hes not that dumb. Lucy has lit several fires at night, trusted the people on the bridge, trusted someone with her water bottle, tried to talk down the ghoul during a shootout, etc. etc. Shes great but man, just look deep down and realize why you hate maximus so much 😂😂
"hes not that dumb" Now that is absolute bullshit. If he isn't the definition of idiot savant nothing is. I actually love the character but he's an absolute idiot
@@TomMuzz why are you getting so mad* Grammar. You are welcome. Also, if you fail to understand those points than maybe you need to invest in INT and literacy? Or watch the show and pay attention more, maybe you'd understand said points lol Your rebuttal =🗑️
