Here's something pretty cool - the ending of "Sing We Noel" followed by a Christmas Day Station Sign-off on WTTW Channel 11. Also includes:
PBS - Public Broadcasting Service animated logo
WTTW promo for New Year's at Pops (main voiceover by William Pierce) (secondary voiceover by Marty Robinson)
PSA: Yule Connection (with Phil Donahue) (and they were still using the same ad a whole year later) - Made possible by Church Federation of Greater Chicago and WTTW / Public Television.

Station Sign-Off by Marty Robinson - "This is WTTW Channel 11 - Public Television for Chicago. WTTW is owned and operated by the Chicago Educational Television Association, a non-profit corporation. The offices and studios of Channel 11 are located in the Edward L. Ryerson Community Television Center, at 5400 North Saint Louis Avenue, and at 233 North Michigan Avenue. Transmission facilities are located in the Channel 11 Howard Town Center at Sears Tower. We've now come to the end of our program day, and will rejoin you tomorrow at the regularly scheduled time. Until then, on behalf of Chicago Public Television, this is Marty Robinson bidding you good night.
National Anthem: The Star-Spangled Banner with various scenes around Chicago.
Static followed (no colorbars)
This aired on local Chicago TV early Monday, December 25th 1978.
About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The Museum of Classic Chicago Television's primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s and early 80s, primarily) recorded off of any and all Chicago TV channels; footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical purposes. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, and to view more of the 4,000+ (and counting) video clips available for viewing in our online archive, please visit us at:

A rather unique sign-off, especially for a PBS affiliate.

I just Google Mapped 5400 N. St. Louis Ave., one of the addresses the announcer references as a Channel 11 facility. There is a sign at the entrance to the parking lot that has "WTTW" and "WFMT" on it, so it is still a facility for Channel 11 today.

I was just searching for the WTTW video with the Star Spangled Banner. I have fond memories of seeing that come on at 7:00 AM. I would sit and wait out the test pattern in the morning and wait for Sesame Street to come on. I remember the video showing what I now know was the Daley Center, and I remember calling it the "Public News Center" for some reason, as I didn't know what it really was. I should also say that the performance of the Star Spangled Banner sounds exactly like we played it when I was in the Lane Tech Marching Band in high school, as it was probably the same band arrangement. That was one song I loved doing in the Marching Band. I also find it fascinating to hear the announcer talk about where the WTTW facilities are located now that I'm grown up and know where Chicago addresses are located. He mentions 233 N. Michigan, and I live only a few blocks from there.

The version of the SSB used in this home-made film was the same one used in the "split-screen SSB film" used by WXYZ-TV in Detroit as of 1980.

Actually, that one has a different, but similar recording. This one has less brass instruments, and is slightly faster in tempo.

That version of the SSB was used on KEYT (Santa Barbara, CA) for their sign-on with a different film. The sign-off did a vocal version of "This is My Country".

As I just left in another comment, that Star Spangled Banner sounds like the arrangement we played in my high school Marching Band from 1984-1988 when I attended Lane Tech.

Taylor Phillips The recorder of this tape must've got tired of waiting for the transmitter to be cut. Glad that it was recorded anyhow.
