This is a small tribute to Central New York's WTVH-TV/Channel 5. In March 2009, the station was subsumed by competitor WSTM-TV/Channel 3. Subsequently, WTVH's longtime facility at 980 James Street in Syracuse was shuttered; and virtually all the staff was discharged.
The brochure and "Part of Your Life" music package in this sequence date to 1977.

Indeed. It is rare to hear fully orchestrated image campaign and news music on local stations these days. The "Part of Your Life" package was created by Mayoham Music (Al Ham) around 1974. The cues were in use by several stations until the early '80s.

This is terrific music and I wish there were still news themes like this. My question is -- not having ever lived in a market where this was used -- what was the version with the conga drums at 5:30 intended to be used for? I can easily imagine 0:01 as a long close for a Sunday morning community affairs program, 1:58 as the open, 2:22 as a bumper when the news goes to commercial, 4:21 as the regular close... but 5:30? It sounds like the kind of music that would play on Gilligan's Island when Gilligan was trying to build a boat to get off the island... which would inevitably have a hole in it.

While I was born in the 80s and never actually heard this music used for the news, WNEM used the weather bulletin sounder based on this theme for DECADES. It'd scare the ever-living crap out of you when it came on, too, as they'd place it several decibels above whatever programming was on at the time. I'd love to have that sounder to use with my ProWeatherAlerts smartphone application; it'd immediately get my attention based on instinct alone and would be a comforting piece of history, too.

If I remember correctly, WBTV Channel 3 (CBS) in Charlotte, NC used the music sometime around '76 and '77.

WSAZ TV 3, or as they advertised themselves then as WSAZ Television 3 in Huntington, WV used the Full orchestra with Moog version of this theme music in the 70’s.

WPRI-TV in Providence was also using this package when I started to work there in 1976. The station previously used Al Ham's "Closer to Your World" Package. At that time as an operations technician I ran audio shifts, and I remember listening to all the cuts on the station's master tape, which included many different versions and beds/doughnuts. The production on this package was excellent.

I remember this theme back in the mid 70s on the local NBC news station. It's nice hearing the extended versions. Those were better times.

1:58 to 2:22... I'm recalling from when I was 7 or 8 in Louisiana... Now, live from WBRZ in Baton Rouge, this is Channel 2 Eyewitness News at 5:00... With Mike Collins... Carol Kloss... Sports Director Dave Rhoades... Meteorologist Dallas Raines... And the Channel 2 Eyewitness News team. Now, for Eyewitness News, Mike Collins...

WCCO-TV in the Twin Cities used this package from mid-1975 to mid-1977 when they switched, briefly, to "Move Closer to Your World".

jimbo41pie, you were right! WBTV-3 did use Part of Your Life in the 70's, more specifically the segment beginning at 1:58, but I remember it being used earlier than 1976; 1975 and possibly earlier. WSLS-10 in Roanoke, VA also used this for a period in the 70's as well.

Co-owned KPHO-TV Phoenix (then independent) used "Part of Your Life" during the 1976-77 season, and as the news closing theme until 1978.

I remember it well! I was visiting my (Aunt and Cousin) out there in the late summer (Mid-August) of 1977! Especially on the Eyewitness News Mid-day edition at 11:30 a.m., and Evening edition at 10:00 p.m. (I may be wrong if it was at 9:00 p.m., correct me on that if needed, since it was nearly 40 years ago) Nevertheless, the theme stil rings in my head as if it were just yesterday, in any case, bring the theme back!!!
