Another medal that is retroactive to WW2 is the POW medal. I have just started putting a shadow box for of my father for my children and did not know about the Bronze Star being given to Combat Medics this means a star on his medal. Thanks for the video.

Great video- I have pretty much nailed down my grandfathers WW2 record. Dont have his DD214 from WW2 but I do have his retirement DD214 from the USAF from 1969. NARA tells me his paperwork was destroyed in the fire from back when. I am trying to reconstruct my great grandfather's records from WW1 now. I was always curious what earned "bronze stars" on the brown European theater medal- now I know.

I waited almost 2 years for my uncles service information from St. Louis only to got his DD214. His other records were destroyed in the 1973 fire. I remember seeing his purple heart but didn't know he got 3. Bronze Star and Legion of merit which is strange because he was only a captain and I thought it was for senior office ranks. He came back from the war late (November 1945). I do remember pictures of him standing next to a V-2 tail section on the typical German small flatcar and then another next to a nose section. Interesting to know how to research his unit.

I just filed for my father's DD214 a month ago. I hope it doesn't take them 2 years. I can't believe it took them so long.

Yes but most of those records perished in the warehouse fire in St Louis.

As a 173rd Vet (67-69) I’m wondering if the Herd received any Unit awards from the Vietnamese or US that would legitimately be included in display?

Starting point of Americans handing out medals like candy. Most WW2 vets of other countries only received 1-2 medals for the total duration of the war.

Trying to figire out how many campaign stars and also if my dad was authorized the arrowhead for the invasion on N Africa. He always said he went in with the invasion on November 8 the day the invasion happened. He then went across Tunisa French Morroco into Sicily, to England to Normandy D Day plus 3 across North France into belgium Holland Luxemberg and into Germany. He rotated home some time late april since he said he was on a troop ship 3 weeks out of Liverpool head back to the states can you help on this? It looks like he had up to 6 campaign stars and maybe the bronze arrowhead

Finally, after 7 decades, the Army is returning to it's true uniform and not that damn knock off of German Wehrmacht influenced rag of polyester..... Allied with the "Jump Badge" when were the stars added for each jump? A cousin who passed 5 years ego jumped into Casablanca, Italy, Normandy and Holland where he was wounded and captured. I understand that since he made 4 of the 5 EATO combat jumps we was warranted to wear a Sterling Sliver Badge with 3 stars. The badge and the 3 stars represented the 4 jumps.....

the DD214 is not a WW II document. the DD214 was established after the War Department became the Department of Defense in 1950 (which is where the DD comes from). the form issued to WW II veterans was a WD - AGO Form 53-55. basically the same form just a different designation.

My Father fought in the Korean War, he was a Sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star. He never spoke of his time in Korea (other than it was freezing cold). He never revealed why he was awarded the Bronze Star. He is now deceased and I would love to know the details of why he was awarded the Bronze Star. I don’t have his discharge papers but know the dates he was there. Who can I contact for this information. Thank you so much

Do you know the unit that he was in during the Korean War? There may be a citation in his records in St. Louis where all of the individual records are stored.

Im putting my grandfathers WWII shadow box together and I have a question on the Army of Occupation Medal. According to his DD214 his Date of Departure from Europe was October 4th, 1945. I have a photo of him that says "Germany April 45" on the back. There is no way of knowing unfortunately where he was through April-October. Do you need to be in one specific location to earn the Occupation Medal? I would assume he would have been authorized but without 100% proof, sadly I cannot add this medal to the shadow box. Any help would be appreciated!
@veteransmedalsworkshop-moa4376
if he left Europe in October he more than qualified for the occupation medal. 30 days was the requirement.

@@veteransmedalsworkshop-moa4376 Thank you for the reply! The 30 days would had to have been in Germany or Austria correct? if he went back to France for example he wouldnt have qualified correct?
