I am using this mess kit for 30+ years now. Was my grandfather's. Still good. My dad had almost the same Rucksack (he was a Gebirgsjäger in the 60s) and we did many hikes with it. Doesn't always have to be the ultra-expensive ultralight gear.

I agree totally. In some ways I like this old gear so much better.

Nice Video! I also have the Xela bag. A good spot for the Zelt or blanket is the pocket on the flap. Supposedly It helps with waterproofing. In period photos we can see the gas mask can strapped to the outside of the flap, or sometimes even on the side loops. As far as the A frame goes, the gebirgs were not issued it as they were not issued y straps. There are a few exceptions, but generally speaking y straps and a frames were non existent in photos, or in soldbuch lists.

Thanks for the info! I figured as much. Do you know a good source for gebirgsjager id books? I’m very curious.

@@High-Speed-History thank YOU very much! I really appreciate it! A little correction: I wrote, also in the Video description, thats its the "normal M31 Rucksack" .... Now i know its called M41, Not M31... M31 is the Gebirgsjäger Rucksack.... I am No reenactor, Just a guy that Loves Outdoors, Survival, Bushcraft and especially old camo patterns! -GR 🤙🏻

I have 5 original rucks. Is this one Chinese made? (they are a shocker) or from a better European manufacturer? ATF in the US were making them years ago and they were VG.

No this one is made by a guy in Europe. I believe he is in turkey, fantastic quality though

I would look at Schusters, they have a lot of good uniforms, or Gavin Militaria.

As soon as I see a video recorded one handed on a cell phone or camera I stop watching. Do yourself a favour and buy a tripod. This could have been a good video.
