Hi Robert great video need to visit there never been to that museum 🙂👌👍👏 a lot of restoration needed on some of the aircraft

Aye, the aircraft outside look a wee bit tatty. The museum is run completely by volunteers and they rely on donations and shop purchases (plus the small entrance fee) to keep the museum open.

A good tour but a pity you felt the need to use such a dramatic piece of artwork as the thumbnail. It did its job though or I would not be typing this. Perhaps the 'History of Spitfire Crashes.......' would have been more appropriate. Sorry, but I do not see the point of totally misleading information.

Back in the early eighties, I had a team clearing up the wreckage of a RF4 Phantom of USAF from a hillnear Newton Stewart. On this hill we found wreckage of a He 111. Some of this, a wing and parts of the landing gear were flown to the road by the USAF helicopter for the museum. I think the contact was called Bruce. If I recall correctlyany useful parts of the RF4 had already been 'collected'.

The are a couple of other crash sites around the hills surrounding Loch Doon. I am doing some background work for potential videos on these :)

Misleading title or terrible English. Either way, not impressed. Crashes - present continuous tense. No such thing happened. Crashed - past tense a day ago 50 years ago whenever.

Which bit was the crash?

For me the same. No commentary, nothing in writing and the sound off because I do not like being lulled as it distracts any concentration. However, what was there to really concentrate upon that was in the title? All I got was the existence of an interesting museum.

I would thoroughly recommend a visit to the museum if you are anywhere nearby. For about £6 it kept me enthralled for a couple of hours and the talk about the crashed spitfire and its recoveredy was well worth the entrance fee on its own. I'll go again next year when we visit Dumfries. It will be the perfect time to go as my grandson will still be young enough to go for free and I'll just qualify for an old age discount (and they accuse you Scots of being tight) 😉

I recorded the entire talk on video (with permission). I’ll probably use excerpts when I create the video about the flight over the loch.

I noticed the Squadron details on the Watch Office Board...Number 10 Advanced Flying Unit...good chance my great uncle flew there. He was a Scotsman that enlisted just a few days after war was declared in 1939...flew Lancasters with Bomber Command.

Now? How did they get the Spitfire in that Nissan hut? Take a wall out? All of those aircraft really need to be undercover since they are quietly rotting away exposed to the elements. A useful purpose for lottery funding?

that thing at 0:23 - 0:25 is Barnes Wallis' earthquake device!!! - huge supersonic bomb used to great effect on the v2 cupola in France, viaducts in Germany and to blow a Tirpitz sized hole in the sea and the big nazi monster fell into it and capsized!!!! only the Lancaster could take it up and deliver it. - lots of interesting old busses that once were the latest flying machines!! nice video of one of the smaller air museums! 😊😊😊 who shoehorned the spit in2 the nissan hut??!!! not a lot of room to getr it in...

Very interesting info! Thanks, Martin. The wings on the Spitfire can be detached so it can be moved around. In Summer they often have it outside for visitors to see :)
