WWE 2007 PPV
1) New Years Revolution (RAW) 6.25 (The last Raw Brand Only PPV, very lifeless, Triple H gets injured, non PPV worthy main event with Cena & Umaga)
2) Royal Rumble- 8.0- Great Royal Rumble show and match. Cena vs Umaga deliver a great last man standing match. Fun undercard but HBK/Taker steal the show with arguably the most exciting Rumble finish to date)
3) No Way Out- Smackdown- 5.25- Awful PPV with a fun main event. Very dead for a Los Angeles crowd but WWE gave them a crap undercard.
4) Wrestlemania 23- 8.25- A Mixed bag, what was great was great and what sucked definitely sucked. Could have been a better show with a better card considering this was before anyone was dead or injured on the roster.
5) Backlash- 8.75- The end of the Brand Only PPV's and this PPV rocked. All killer No Filler featuring the best double main event in years.
6) Judgment Day- 5.5 (Famous quote from Doug after this PPV, "The WWE Sucks. That is not an opinion. That is a fact!!"
7) One Night Stand Extreme Rules- 6.5 (Why even have another PPV, pretty much was Judgment Day part 2 but a little better)
8) Vengeance 5.5 (I passed up on Slammiversary for this shit? No Punk vs Benoit= Biggest Letdown in WWE history)
9) Great American Bash 6.5 (Cena vs Lashley surprisingly had a big match blockbuster feel to it)
10) SummerSlam 5.5 (Worst SummerSlam ever, Great Khali as champion was a joke)
11) Unforgiven 5.5 (This was like watching Raw or Smackdown, Triple & Undertaker are back which was a positive)
12) No Mercy 5.0 (Y2J's return would have been epic if it had happened here but instead we got 3 Triple H matches and Randy "HeadLock" Orton winning the belt twice in one night, show until the main event)
13) Cyber Sunday 6.5- WWE Getting back on track, HBK, Taker, Triple H & Austin give the PPV life)
14) Survivor Series 7.5- (WWE getting back in form, very good show from top to bottom)
15) Armageddon 7.25 (Loaded on paper but crappy booking and smart booking keep the show from reaching its potential.
TOP 10 MVP Candidates

2007 was a solid year overall despite all the suspensions and injuries. Taker/Batista & HBK/Cena matches were easily the best parts of the year. Backlash 2007 was the first PPV I ever attended, and I got an awesome show. I loved Jericho's return at the end of the year. The PPVs in 2007 were hit and miss, but better overall than the 2006 PPVs.

I agree. The Chris Benoit treatment, The Great Khali becoming World Heavyweight Champion, Mr. McMahon becoming ECW Champion, John Cena's title reign, Batista main events every PPV World Title match on SmackDown, the half of the roster were injured, yeah 07 was a pretty dark year to be a WWE fan.

Hi Sanders. Apologies for my late comments about this video, but once again, this is brilliant. Your analysis, knowledge and delivery within these timeline videos are great, and they are really interesting and fun listening. 2007 was a year which had a lot of potential I felt. Like ROH in 2011, the year started off great, but then just tailed off badly into a jumbled and disappointing mess. I must admit, Benoit's murder/suicide had a profound effect on me, and it still does to this day, but it did not really have much of a bearing on the overall creative direction or booking of the company (albeit it maybe had an effect on ECW's future). The injuries, backstage morale and the suspensions had a big effect, and the shows were just below-par, which is ironic considering that it was the end of the brand exclusive PPVs. The PPVs just felt like TV specials and besides the Undertaker and Batista's feud, along with MVP and Matt Hardy rivalry, I was not invested in the product. I think one of the other reasons this year was not as successful in WWE (the same goes for 2006) was that fans were beginning to take notice of ROH and TNA. ROH and TNA were putting on a much better product than the WWE, and their PPVs, feuds and matches felt fresh, exciting and important. I mean ROH got on PPV, and the first three PPVs they produced are arguably three of the best shows in the company's history. Similarly, TNA put on a ton of great matches on PPV and TV, and while they did have lapses of being terrible, they made progress, and their product was much more entertaining than RAW or Smackdown. The buzz on the internet definitely turned heads (it did mine) and there was no way WWE was going to compete, with ROH or even TNA, in terms of fan intrigue. Yet, I do not think 2007 was the worst year in WWE history (that honour still goes to 1995) I think it was just the most disappointing. They started off great with the Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania and Backlash, and had a lot of good talent, but instead of keeping up the momentum, they just decided to shove out rubbish TV and PPVs, regardless of whether it was good or not. Plus, the a lot of the up and coming stars were not given enough time to shine, as they were being cast aside for guys nobody cared about like Randy Orton, Great Khali and HHH. However, there were positives of the year for me which included; Undertaker vs. Batista rivalry, JBL's awesome commentary (especially when Michael Cole lost his voice during the main event of No Way Out), Wrestlemania 23, Backlash and the Royal Rumble (three of my all-time favourite PPVs), John Cena's championship reign and in-ring work (before CM Punk, he made the WWE title mean something again) and the direction the company went in with health, and wellbeing after the Benoit murder/suicide. All in all, a bad year for the WWE, but the positives shine brighter because of it.

This was a dark time period for WWE for the reasons you mentioned. The summer of 2007 is just hard to stomach (e.g. the Vince limo storyline, Benoit tragedy, injuries with top superstars). Smackdown's roster was so abysmal especially when you have Great Khali and Hornswoggle winning championship belts --can't imagine how the YWC would react if it happened today. On the bright side, I thought Punk winning the ECW title was a cool moment (and a great match w/ Morrison that September) and the Taker/Batista feud was mildly enjoyable.

Awesome Video! Agree with the No Way Out PPV in LA. I was there and they gave us a crap card. The Main Event was good, they advertised a Fatal Four Way Ladder Match For the WWE Tag Team Championships, the rematch from Armageddon 2006 but they changed it to London/Kendrick vs Deuce & Domino and everyone there was disappointed and some were chanting we want Ladders but it quickly died down. The other good thing was seeing Ashley half naked and seeing other Divas in the talent show

2007 was a garbage year. Your best wrestlers died or moved on and you had bad storylines and characters. The Benoit thing really brought down my enthusiasm for the product. WWE got heat from the media so I don't blame them for being more family friendly, but they should have pushed the athleticism from the jump, like they are doing with NXT. I know you're a Cena fan, but I was getting tired of Cena's title reign and I just wanted him to drop the belt. What really pissed me off was at No Mercy, Cena and Orton finally had a feud I could sink my teeth into and what happened? Cena got injured and HHH took his place, then HHH complained about losing for an hour on RAW. I realized those Rock/Austin megastars weren't coming anytime soon so I stopped watching.

2007 was a terrible year to be a WWE fan because of the injuries and suspensions and The Chris Benoit situation and Great Khali as World heavyweight champion and Mr. McMahon as ECW champion. But what really saves WWE in 07 was the Batista/Undertaker feud, Randy Orton going evil mode, the return of Y2J at the end of the year, Royal Rumble, WrestleMania 23, BackLash, and Edge. I still think that 2008 was a much better year than 2007.

2007 was a boring/dark year to be a WWE fan. The product and the roster were boring, the ratings went down, a lot of top stars injured, Mr. McMahon becoming ECW Champion, the Chris Benoit tragedy (and incident), The Great Khali becoming World heavyweight champion, lot of bad decision making, those were the darkest days. One of the WORST years in WWE history. Sorry for the comments. But What saves WWE in 07 was the Taker/Batista feud, Randy Orton going evil mode, Edge, the Royal Rumble PPV and WrestleMania. Everything else sucked. Again, sorry for the late comments.

1/2/07 dirt sheets. The Great Khali is expected to receive a huge push as we head towards WrestleMania. His program against Tommy Dreamer has been done to build Khali as a monster heel who has to go through the ‘ECW Original’ to prove himself. It’s set at this point to lead to WrestleMania with Khali getting a monster push in the process, and culminate with Great Khali challenging Bobby Lashley for the ECW title.

I hated the WWE that time. They kept pushing Cena and Batista that are extended for no reason. The half of the roster was injured, Great Khali becoming World Heavyweight Champion which was definitely the darkest day in Wrestling history, Hornswoggle becoming Cruiserweight Champion and Mr. McMahon's son, Mr. McMahon becoming ECW Champion, Batista main eventing every PPV World title on SmackDown, yeah. 2007 WWE was absolute trainwreck. 2007 was a trainwreck year for the WWE.

2007 wasn't the best year, the product got staler over the year, definitely started moving in the kid-friendly direction even though it wasn't exactly PG yet. The main event roster was good(Cena,HBK,Orton,Edge,Batiata,Taker,HHH) even though they were all injured at some point.Really crappy midcard who never broke out to the main event,or only did years later(Punk),just a very bleh year.

I remember reading rumors that Kennedy was supposed to wrestle flair at wrestlemania or jbl was gonna face him or something. flair actually confirmed it in shoot interviews that he was supposed to wrestle kennedy. As far as money in the bank? Idk who would have won the only guy I could have seen winning was jeff hardy Hogan and big show were supposed to have a match but big show refused. Bobby Lashley was apparently going to turn heel and face either van dam or cm punk for the ecw title or the opposite was to keep lashley a face and maybe have him face a heel rvd. Hair vs hair match was supposed to be hbk and booker but since triple h got injured. Cena needed another opponent for wrestlemania so it became hbk vs cena. And booker was thrown into the money in the bank match. Also edge was supposed to face orton in a singles match at wrestlemania but somewhere along the line he got injured and they threw him into the money in the bank match, he couldn’t wrestle for very long though due to his injury so that’s why they had jeff hardy take him out.

PPV Quality Overall: 6/10 (C) (Well, I thought the PPV quality was disappointing. At least John Cena, Batista, The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Edge, Randy Orton, Bobby Lashley, Umaga, Jeff Hardy and MVP made some of the PPVs worth watching. Until everything went downhill. The top stars were injured, the Chris Benoit mess, Hornswoggle becoming the Cruiserweight Champion, even Great Khali as the World Heavyweight Champion which was a joke, Mr. McMahon becoming ECW Champion, The weekly shows aren't good, all of that. 2007 was a dark year to be a WWE fan. Overall, that year was a fail. At least feuds like Undertaker/Batista, Cena/HBK, Cena/Orton, Orton/HBK and Edge/Batista really saves the year.) Top 30 WWE PPV Matches of 2007: 01). PPV Grades & Ratings: New Year's Revolution: 5/10 (D) (A dull lifeless PPV but the last RAW exclusive PPV until 2016) Royal Rumble: 8.5/10 (A) (Great!) (Cena vs Umaga stole the show, HBK and Taker were the final two men, The Undertaker wins the Royal Rumble! This show had the best buyrate.) No Way Out: 5.5/10 (C-) (Disappointing!) (HBK, Cena, Batista and The Undertaker carries this dull lifeless PPV. Dead crowd and even Michael Cole losing his voice on Commentary but it was the last SmackDown exclusive PPV until late 2016) WrestleMania 23: 9/10 (A+) (Excellent!) (Awesome show. Batista/Undertaker and Cena/HBK and Donald Trump and Bobby Lashley shaving Mr. McMahon's head bald. This PPV delivers another great buyrate.) Backlash: 9/10 (A+) (Excellent!) (The Undertaker and Batista stole the show as one of the best but if not one of the talked about Last Man standing matches in WWE history. The WWE title 4-way match was MOTN too. One of the best WWE PPVs in 2007 delivers another great buyrate.) Judgment Day: 4.5/10 (F) (Weak!) (WWE beginning to have a downhill summer in 07) One Night Stand: Extreme Rules: 6.5/10 (C+) (Alright!) (Fun show. The Hardy Boyz vs. The World's Greatest Tag Team = MOTN while John Cena gives The Great Khali an FU off the stands.) Vengeance: Night of Champions: 3.5/10 (F-) (Horrible!) (The ratings are going down after Chris Benoit died and the WWE would no longer mentioning him and his name. No Punk vs Benoit = Biggest letdown in WWE history.) Great American Bash: 5.8/10 (C) (Cena vs Lashley was a money match for GAB) SummerSlam: 3.5/10 (F-) (Horrible!) (Worst SummerSlam ever, this is like watching RAW or SmackDown and Great Khali as World Heavyweight champion is a joke. At least HHH returns) Unforgiven: 3.5/10 (F-) (God Horrible!) (Again, this is like watching RAW or SmackDown because the weekly shows aren't too good.) No Mercy: 6.2/10 (C) (WWE really needs to push the talent after the PPV. At least Randy Orton shows No Mercy and Really?, Triple H wrestled 3 matches in a row for the WWE title.) Cyber Sunday: 6/10 (C) (HHH, Umaga, Batista and The Undertaker carries this show.) Survivor Series: 8.5/10 (A) (Great!) (Very Good PPV. For a reason WWE from May to September had a awful summer that year but the Fall of 07 really saves the WWE with a very good show. Undertaker/Batista and Orton/HBK were MOTN and Edge returns.) Armageddon: 7.5/10 (B+) (Solid!) (Good matches with bad and crappy bookings and controversy.) Overall: 5/10 (D) (Average!)
