Did he though ? Honestly if you look at it he didn’t . Only times he was at the top was going against Bret and getting beat up by Tyson . Other than that he wasn’t top dog . Stone cold and rock tan the late 90s and Shawn wasn’t even in the ring . DX didn’t get big till he left .

@@Wolversquall Shawn Micheals can out wrestle the Rock and Stone Cold in his sleep. He was so good, athletically no one could touch him. He was also deceptively strong for his size. When he hurt his back and retired in 1998. He was the never the same! 92-98 HBK was the Man!

Shawn Michaels became my favorite wrestler in the early 90s and he still is now.There are many greater champions but there’s only one true showstopper!!!
HBK is without question the most talented wrestler of his era. On the mic, in the ring, house shows, PPVs, he did outstanding work. He was a diva because he knew he was good and he a) wanted to be recognized for it, and b) he was trying to make the best show every night.
@@Director2024 I was always criticised for this. But he was not main event material. He was no Rock or Austin. The crowd loved him but he never had a pop when he appeared that was as big as those guys. His finisher was only a kick, and it should have been something more sophisticated like Austin's stunner. His ring gear was not main event material. Little hearts on your pants can't make you a credible champion. Some friends I showed wrestling to said he looked like a diva. Which is bad for representing WWE to new fans... He was great for creating champions, but not being a world champion himself. He should have been one of the greatest intercontinental champion ever, like Jericho was. Jericho had bad reigns except in 2008 with world championships... He himself tried to bury the rock because the guy had what Michaels was lacking, natural charisma without forcing it. Michaels had great promos but not legendary ones... his voice was cracking during promos, something was off... + he was named Mr. Wrestlemania but lost all the time to favour someone else. Who was the best choice between him and Benoit to make HHH lose? He was there to push Cena even more and losing to him. He was great at helping champions but not a champion himself. He had a 1 month reign in 2002... why? Not main event material. I am sorry, nobody will change my opinion on that.
@@Director2024 Macho man is indeed a legend. I still think Austin was the best when it comes to storytelling, playing with the crowd (what, middle finger and stuff). You just made me realise something... like I said with Shawn I always felt he missed something. I think also he needed a wrestling catchphrase, not in dx but in solo, as a single complete competitor. Angle is my second favourite and for example the "you suck" chants are arguably the funniest, most innovative chants of all time. I LOVE Kurt.
I met Michaels at the Dallas Airport some years ago, he was walking by himself, I ran up to him, tapped him on his shoulder, told him I was a big fan, asked for a picture, and he said in his deep ass voice “yea” took the picture and he was on his way, always have and always will love him for that !!!
Stone cold was nowhere near the top of in ring performer's. Not all his fault because his neck injury held him back and was forced to be mainly a brawler and striker. Definitely top 3 on the mic.
@@byronmartin1840 its not just about technical abilities, Stone Cold is the GOAT simple as that. If you think he can't wrestle look at his matches with Brett. Owen unfortunately almost ended the career of the GOAT.
Even those who weren't fond of HBK I don't think have said anything negative about him as a performer especially those who wrestled him. Even Undertaker said in an interview he liked him in the ring but outside no. Notice when HBK returned in 2000s he was a changed man. He quit his addiction, got married, had a baby, became a born again Christian. He was a changed man even became friends or got along with guys who hated him back in the 90s from some interviews I've seen in biggest rival Bret.
@Peter brett is my favorite but he has an ego as big as Shawn, so that's just two guys with monster egos and different enough that they were perfect rivals for each other at the time . in the ring no two guys consistently put on high quality matches than those two either. ever. looking back that was arguably the best eras in wresting
They were both really skilled with different styles that complimented each other. Their egos made them incompatible. Shawn's primadonna behavior rubbed lot of people the wrong way. Brett's ego is such that he cant let go of any slight real or imagined.
@ryanarment5393 we complain now but those two having that attitude and personality made for one of the true great rivalries that kinda drew you towards the show because you just knew there was alot going on behind the scenes and it wasn't an act, you get very few of those anymore
Hbk and the undertaker were on another level as performers! That being said I'm a hit-and-run fan as well as a stone cold man. Actually HHH was my favorite character

Flair drew huge numbers for a long time Michaels ........not so much His run in 1996 was mediocre numbers wise putting the then WWF in a very bad financial position
@@trentejames9773 Michaels was a fairy! It's well documented on RU-vid with wrestlers saying that about him. He ran out of the arena after the screw job as Bret was going to literally smash him up. Then he ran from Taker as Michaels didnt want to drop the belt to Stone Cold. Taker even wrapped his hands, ready to punch Michaels to a pulp to tell him to drop the belt to Steve. Same happened again when Michaels hid from Bam Bam after insulting him, even hiding behind Hunter. Its all over RU-vid with several wrestlers to tell the same story.
I grew up as a hbk fan my favorite wrestler all time. I always say to my friends for over 25 years now dont piss me off or im have to give u a superkick hbk style! Then it was hart Then it was taker Then it was rock/austin
If WWE and WCW were like NWA and the old WCCW was Bret would’ve had his belt for quite a bit. So many others wouldn’t have survived, the beatings those guys did .. Wrestling just ain’t the same. I loved it when they pulverized each other..
Regardless of what anyone thinks or says about Shawn Michaels, he was a 1 of a kind in-ring performer whether he was liked, loved, despised, or hated👍 At day's end, it's all a work
