I used to play this game in my local takeaway back in 1991. That was the year WWF wrestling seemed to explode in popularity in the UK.
@TheRetroManRandySavage
@TheRetroManRandySavage 3 года назад
Yeah, definitely exploded around that time. My uncle and cousins were mad wrestling fans and used to tape everything off sky for me to watch. That had to have been around 89 because the warrior had just become inter-continental. Or maybe it was 1990🤔 Either way it was when warrior was ascending. I was hooked immediately. I was lucky enough to see WWF live twice in 92 and 93. I went dressed as warrior, and my two cousins as undertaker and big boss man. Man, great memories. And it's all thanks to having a cool uncle. I also loved playing wrestle fest at the arcade of my nan's caravan site in cleethorpes. 30 years later and I've just got it on the pandora saga console. Happy days. 😂👍

@@TheRetroManRandySavage My first experience of WWF was watching Royal Rumble on VHS in Cyprus with a family friend in summer of 1990! I became more familiar with it when my cousins got Sky later that year and the first thing I remember watching was an interview with Ultimate Warrior when he was still the WWF champion. I don't know what triggered it but it suddenly became incredibly popular by early '91 even though very few people in UK had Sky at the time. The likes of Hulk Hogan suddenly became household names and I remember nearly every boy in my school was collecting the WWF trading cards that summer! I didn't get Sky until '93 but by then many of the older wrestlers were being phased out and it was no longer as popular as it had been a couple of years earlier. It's a shame I got rid of all the magazines and merchandise I collected at the time.

Also, while it's not explained anywhere, different characters in Wrestlefest have hidden attributes. Hulk Hogan for example has a longer lifebar (moves do a slightly smaller precentage of damage) and Earthquake's attacks do more damage, while Jake Robert and Ted DiBiase have a bonus modifier to grapples. (They require less button presses to win the grapple.)

By the way this game was an Arcade exclusive, and was a coin grabber. For example, if you added an extra credit and accidentally press start YOU LOOSE that extra credit! As a kid I was wondering what happened to the extra credit not knowing I used it you regenerate my health which went down in seconds due to the difficulty of this game. I also find it funny that its game over if you get thrown out of Royal Rumble.

The 1995 Wrestlemania game is technically a really bad "wrestling" game, but for some reason as a fighting game, like a Mortal Kombat vs NBA Jam, it's so ridiculous but it's a lot of fuin. I like all the street fighter 2 style special movies, me and my friend on the PS1 had so much fun in this game on the coop.

I think I enjoy the “Iraqi sympathizer” storyline mostly because of Slaughter’s mic skills and antics; the burning of the Hulk jersey etc. All memorable stuff. Add in the fact that people harassed Slaughter and he was refused service in restaurants reveals a lot about the current climate of the pandemic as well; some people are just really committed to their version of reality, especially when it means you can demean people without consequences... Lastly, the feud continuing did produce that Madison Square Garden Brawl in which Hulk was dressed like a commando, and Slaughter more old school. It’s a strange and memorable little encounter due to the lack of rules, tons of blood, Hulk actually being more of a villain/sadist, and a neat callback to Slaughter/Patterson’s similar brawl like 10 years earlier. Here’s a link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lvC1XB543bo.html As for the game, amazingly simple but the presentation is what keeps fans coming back: “Warrior! Wrestlefest was one of a kind. It was the first WWF game to have its own original soundtrack, it mimicked the presentation of WWF television of that time, it was the best imitation of the wrestlers of that time both and demeanor and moveset. It also unlike other WWF games the Champions were hard to beat especially in a pay-to-play type situation. In that particular era many video games try to emulate this game. Especially Super Nintendo. In other arcade wrestling games. But there is only one wrestlefest.

the only thing that gets lost in this review video is how lush the sound was of this game. i haven't played this game in over 25 years, but the sound bites from this game are still in my head like t was yesterday. the sound of the wrestlers hitting the mat after a big slam. the crowd, the announcer saying the wrestlers names.this game wasn't always in every arcade i went into, but in the chance i did enter an arcade with a Wrestlefest machine, it always stood out among all the other cabinets due to its bright TV style presentation.
@neat3468
@neat3468 4 года назад
Yes the sound and music are fantastic, also it is the only wrestling game in history that does not feature any of the wrestler's theme tune in any tune form. I love the boom noises when wrestlers land and even the commentary never gets old, even if some of the moves are incorrect, like Slaughter's Cobra clutch, which it isn't.

I've played this for the last 2 weeks straight. I finally beat LOD, only to be smashed by Demolition on the title defense. Tried to see how far I could go on 1 credit. Still so much fun and for me, insanely difficult. The most fun wrestling game I've ever played.

I loved this game from the moment I first saw it in 91 and 30 years later I'm finally learning how to beat it, largely thanks to One Credit Classis' runs on RU-vid. The game is so good, so detail in terms of graphics and gameplay it's a miracle so much real care and attention was put into an arcade game. When you don't know how to play it it can seem very cheap but once you master it (and exploit the AI) it becomes the perfect bite sized arcade challenge you can pick up, have a few goes at and put down having been thoroughly entertained.

Well Slaughter wasn't always portrayed as a patriotic hero. He actually started his career as a heel drill sergeant character and then turned face when Dr. D David Schultz refused to let him tag out in a tag match vs. Andre the Giant and Pat Patterson at a televised MSG show. That solidified his face turn in 1984 and made him bigger than ever, especially when he later feuded with Iron Sheik and had a Boot Camp match with him and had matches with Nikolai Volkoff as well. And I believe The New Day broke Demolition's record for the most days as WWE tag champs. But you said combined days, so maybe not in that sense. But New Day have had so many title reigns that I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case as well.

WrestleMania Arcade deserve it's own review. In the year Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 was favorite for many gamers, Midway released a great wrestling based brawler, where WWF stars were even more larger than life, than in real WWF, the only issue i see is controls, which also were based on MK formula, rather than simple WrestleFest formula. The amount of brawling fun here is only second to Smackdown Here Comes the Pain, which i consider the best wrestling game of all time.

Great video, and WrestleFest certainly goat a LOT of my money back in the day and a lot of my emulation time now! However, just TWO things stop it from being the greatest WWF/E game for me 1)No one on one match option 2)A couple of key 1991 names are missing, such as Randy Savage (though he may have already been "retired" after WrestleMania VII) Bret Hart, and Jim Duggan. But certainly this games remains an all time favourite!!

I personally would have mentioned the "tier" system of grapples which build up according to the opponent's damage level, therefore getting stronger as they go on, until you're able to unleash your finisher. Also, it should have been mentioned that, in Royal Rumble mode, elimination can occur via pinfall, submission but ALSO by throwing an opponent over the top rope (as in any battle royal). So, whilst it's nice to see this awesome title featured on this channel, I do think the analysis of the game itself should have been alot deeper and more accurate, especially if one consider that alot of minutes are used discussing WWF storylines of the day and yet more flashbacks about the game's predecessor (even a mini history of Technos Japan!). So, while alot of these items are indeed pertinent, it's a shame that the actual game review ended up sort of rushed, truly leaving out alot of key aspects of the WWF WrestleFest experience.

Loved this when on holiday as a kid in the arcades. I wouldnt let my brother play with me on the royal rumble. Then me mum stepped in and made me. 30p in the machine, 2 seconds later hes eliminated. Fun times.

Loved seeing you slap the PCFX, it was a very naughty system.

I love the exaggerated cartoonish aesthetic! I totally agree. It makes me feel like I'm playing a game with my Hasbro wrestlers. WWF Superstars WrestleFest Legends of Wrestling 1 & 2 Legends of Wrestlemania WWE Allstars Retromania WWE Battlegrounds Any other examples/suggestions of this style of game?

It's too bad that more Superstars weren't added to both games! Oh my 10 wrestlers🙄 Sid Vicious, Iron Shiek, Mr Perfect, Brett Hart, Typhoon, Andre, Jake the Snake, Shawn Micheals.

I honestly feel gutted that Demolition were in instead of Randy Savage and maybe someone else like Bret Hart, Irwin R Schyster or the Undertaker. Looking at Warrior's gfx I can easily imagine Randy Savage in this game. Quite honestly gutted about it, even today. I also wish they could have made it so you could be Hawk and Animal in the Royal Rumble.
