Thanks GT Scale Modeling!! I I made a small jig that held a single strand, then I wrapped the little barbs around it, glued them with CA Glue, then wrapped the other wire around the whole mess. I will definitely make a video on that as it was super time consuming, but I think it made pretty nice barb wire. I painted mine with red-brown acrylic, then drenched it with rust washes. Thanks again for the comment!!!
Thanks CW!! I had a hard time finding them initially, but met a new friend of a friend that found them for me. The kit is from Hauler, a German company I believe, and it included small Photo Etch cages, I was thrilled. About a year after I think I saw a Mini Art kit with a bunch more pigeons in different poses and extended wings, so if I venture into WWI again, those will definitely be part of it. Thanks again for watching and commenting!!
Thanks for commenting!! You're helping me decide future video's, and now I'm thinking about live streaming so I can answer questions on any of my dioramas, techniques, the whole shooting match!! Thanks again, and I hope your having a great day!! Bill
Just Superb. Excellent detail on how they operated during this period in our history. Worthy of a museum display for the younger generation to understand. Thanks.
Thank you Ian!! I had such a great time researching this and learning more about WW1. I want to do another about the Dardanelles eventually, I just need to find some kits for it! Thanks again for checking out my video's and your great comments, I really appreciate it. Take Care, Bill
Beautiful work! I have a similar project in mind. My great grandfather was a field surgeon in WW1 and I am planning a diorama to honour his service. Your work is very inspiring!!!
@@ScaleModelCraft I could feel his love for miniatures as a modeler in the way he studied them with great attention to detail. Incidentally, I have lived near Berkeley University for a year and a half in the past. : )
In him memoirs, referring to his First World War service, Field Marshal Montgomery mentions an occasion when the General Staff were waiting for a pigeon with an important message. When it arrived the message was rushed to the general. The message said 'I am fed up carrying this bloody pigeon all over France'.
It is really impressive to see how far is detailed and realistic . As always outstanding work Bill ! I do like very much your area for the pigeons cages . First time i see a diorama with . The sculpture for the sandbags is excellent . Bravo !
@@ScaleModelCraft Maybe as the middle East front such as Gallipoli with the Anzacs ? Me I bought already 3 boxes to create a diorama about it . But when start it , it is an another question ...
I am excited to see your diorama with the Anzacs! I am planning a new diorama and this is definitely one I am interested in. Not sure when you will start but I will be looking for it!!
@@ScaleModelCraft I dunno when as well . I have boxes bought already for 10 projects ! I am struggling by now with my Chinese Qin diorama ! Next one will be about the battle of Morat ,during the Middle Age in Switzerland .
Thank you very much Phil!! The pigeons were a later idea, but Im really glad I did it as I got to read about them and the role they played, which was pretty amazing! Thanks again for watching and commenting!!
Never know! miners used canaries under ground to check oxygen levels! I went and bought that miniart pigeon set haha I wanted to do this too and have a couple in the locker in the mk5 full interior build! Nothing was sanitary back then in the trenches, I've got alot of British figures now all saved up for something just cool like this! I might even do a trench foot vignette with all the sogging mud. This is superb absolutely love it!
Thanks Scottish Bonzai!! I loved doing the pigeons and reading about it when I built them. I also want to do one of the converted trucks they used to carry them around the battlefield, and I think Mini Art has a newer kit with pigeons in more poses. The ones I used were from Hauler, and included small photo etch cages.
Thanks Gregg!! I am so glad you enjoyed it, and thank you so much for subscribing!! I have 5 videos for this Diorama in the playlist: WWI British Command Bunker, check it out if you would like to see more of my build!!
@@ScaleModelCraft Absolutely! I’ll give them a view. I use the same foam btw.. you got it from Home Depot, right? It’s what I use for most of my dioramas 👍🏻
@@Greggs.Dioramas.Scalemodels Hi Gregg, Yup, same stuff. I did try regular styrofoam on one a few years ago and it gave a really cool texture, and since I was doing an alien planet, (Starbucks crash landing from Battlestar Gallactica) I liked it. It also reacted to the paint as I used rattle can primer on it so it melted it a little. Thanks again for commenting, I dig your models by the way, I have future ideas for Korea and Vietnam era builds, so we might have to text about that. Thanks again, I hope you're having a great day.
@@ScaleModelCraft That’s great man! I’ll have to look at that one too. Absolutely! I’ll be leaving fir two months in a couple weeks due to work, but around thanksgiving I’ll be back. If you have any questions, feel free to message me or comment on a video and I’ll get back to you. Have a blessed day man!
WOW!!! I just checked out the game on Steam, that looks really cool!! I have an 15 year old Steam account, I might try to load it on this computer, I used to play RUSE with my nephew on Steam and it was really fun. Thanks Rowanhusky, I appreciate the heads up!!! Take care, Bill
Love the diorama so far Bill. Though I was wondering, maybe some time in the future you could do a video on hoe you do all of the stairs and other woodwork in your dioramas. I have to say all the detail you put into this really brings it to life.
Thanks RabidSpace!! This week is the final video of this build, but then I will do a video specifically on building techniques, so you should see that in a couple weeks. Im going to do Barbwire, and Bamboo also!
Thanks RW!! I have a friend, John that makes great scary and suspenseful dioramas and I have to admit, its got me thinking of something a bit more monster'y. I love skeletons, so it'll most likely be something along those lines. I also love the old Aurora monster movie kits, I have an example of one I did in my video last month about lighting: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WMfUfvU3J88.html
@@ScaleModelCraft that's awesome I've heard quite a few different stories and actual encounter stories about the hell hounds of WW1 so I thought I would add that to the comments 👍and I'll check out the link you provided 👍💯👍
@@rwarts5150 Holy Crud!! I just looked it up and I HAVE TO DO SOMETHING WITH IT!! I thought you were just waxing on a run-of-the-mill Hell-Hound, but I just read about it online and its something I didn't know about!! Not surprising, I'm not a historian, but I do like reading about the wars and supernatural stuff, (huge Indiana Jones Fan...not apologizing!) ....but this is a great story and something I am super intrigued about!! Thanks RW, I have a page open right now reading about "The Hound of Mons"!!
I'm watching all the videos in one go because this diorama is just too nice and there's plenty of ideas and techniques that I can steal! may I ask how you made the corrugated sheets of metal? did you bend them yourself, or did you get them premade?
Hi Eugenio, I purchased these from "Builders in Scale" a number of years ago, they work great and are for railroading. They are "O" scale which is as close as I could get to 1:35th scale, but I think O-scale translates to 1/48th scale. Thanks Again, Bill
Hi Shawn, I did another video on making the barb wire: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-X4njjz0STFU.html If you have any other direct questions I am happy to answer them. Take Care, Bill
Hi James, thanks for the question. here is the same reply I gave to GT Scale Modeling, and I will show this in my next "Diorama Building with Scale Model Craft" video that I am doing monthly. "I made a small jig that held a single strand, then I wrapped the little barbs around it, glued them with CA Glue, then wrapped the other wire around the whole mess.
