WWII plane pilot hailed a hero after emergency landing in Cocoa Beach 

So we are comparing an A320 with passengers landing in a river while in a densely populated area to a small single engine plane with one pilot.... great comparison guys.

It wasn’t a “crash landing”. It was a “Forced Water Landing”, more commonly referred to as a “Ditching”. From what I understand, the TBM Avenger had a mechanical failure at altitude while circling back over the beach to the airfield where the Cocoa Beach Airshow is held, and lost power, therefore losing the ability to move the throttle above idle, and idle doesn’t produce enough forward thrust to keep an aircraft in the air for long. So he looked for a clearing with minimal risk to human life, and forced the plane down. In the end, although the aircraft did crash, it’s not a “crash landing” because the landing was still controlled. The only time a landing is considered a Crash Landing is if either a normal landing becomes a SNAFU, or the aircraft simply plows into the ground.

I mean, good job to the pilot but the stakes were nothing like the Hudson landing. Give me a break.

If you look at all the angles, he narrowly missed hitting several people because he landed too close to the shore. He's not a hero, he's lucky that he didn't kill anyone.

Pilot sucks, he got lucky he didn't kill anyone. He wanted to land as close to sure as possible so he would live. He's not a hero.

The idiot shouldn’t have been anywhere near the people. As someone who has flown many hours along a shoreline, he could have easily stayed away from people.

Pilot----idiot, knew just after he took off that his engine was failing and selected not to land at a nearby airport but instead continue with a performance. Only took 8 years to put this airplane together with a 40 yr old engine. Brilliant
