My dads parent were from Berlin. They sent him to the Pacific. He wanted to go to Germany because he just despised the Nazies. Growing up our next door neighbors were from Japan and fought in the Pacific. I always wondered what it was like for other people like us. My dad never talked about it.

Mostly just the ones commemorating traitors to our country. The Confederate war heroes were not fighting for us, they were fighting against us. Why honor them with statues today in the country they lost to? And anyway, many of them aren't all that historical - they were built in the 20th century to frighten and belittle Black Americans, and make them feel like their homeland still valued the slavers over the descendants of the people they enslaved. I say we replace Confederate monuments with monuments to real American heroes.

My hometown has a bronze statue of Jimmy Stuart in front of the courthouse. He’s got one hand in his pocket, and the other he’s pointing his index finger out. People used to go up there all the time and jam a big oversized can of beer on his finger, or duct tape a dildo or a bong to his hand all the time. You can’t really do that anymore since they put a camera up watching the statue, and the town police station is right behind the courthouse.

Hitler dedicated a cornerstone to a building and during his involvement in the ceremony the stone cracked in front of everyone. And EVERYONE there felt a bad foreboding after that but did not talk openly about it till after the war. This is in John Toland’s 2 volume series titled Adolph Hitler. Great history book. Fly Boys by James Bradley is the pacific campaign version. Excellent detail you do not hear about.

A statue conveniently rotating with bombing? BS
@jackmcfarlane7173
@jackmcfarlane7173 8 дней назад
I mean it's not that ridiculous, if you've ever set a ringing phone on a table you know vibrations can cause things to move or change direction
@LeafySword
@LeafySword 8 дней назад
You clearly know nothing
@Scarletraven87
@Scarletraven87 8 дней назад
@@LeafySword So, to rotate from west to east that's up to 180° but 180 is unrealistic, because it's the maximim possible rotation. It's surely more than 90°, so it's probably about 150°. And for a vertical structure to rotate like that it needs to be severely out of balance or on an uneven terrain, or a combination of both. And the amount of push in angular velocity (degrees per boom) depends on how much out of balance it is, right? So let's suppose a change of 0.5° per boom, which I am sure you agree is a lot because the statue probably weighs a lot, and it's the top speed it can reach as it aproximates 0° per boom as it gets closer and closer to the two points where the leverage is zero. So in essence it's more likely going to be 0.25° per bomb, and that's still a lot because we were aiming for some optimal speed before. So in essence we're talking about >4 times 150 booms in a range around the statue that is short enough for it to have any effect. Did I miss something?
