Please pin this or spread the word somehow? There's a new hotline for mental health support that is free anonymous and available 24/7 in the US. The number is new it's 988. If anyone is considering what he is talking about, please make the call instead. There are people who want you here and they want to help.

Why so you can do nothing but get money and not give it. I’m a veteran help me mother f&$@er. You don’t care about this man. You don’t care about anything but image. I was forced to join the marine corps, I wanted to be a marine but 2 weeks before boot camp I hung myself( from depression cheating girl)and had to be revived by my dad and a ambulance and was in a mental institution, my recruiter got me out and took me by the arm to MEPS and then went to boot camp. Did fine for a year and a half but then I started to get messed with hard( long story). I was a all star marine expert rifle man highest pt and asvab scores and losers with higher rank messed with me. I couldn’t take it anymore and started to smoke weed and do cocaine and eventually was in the hospital for a mental break down and started to get separated. Not for drugs I could have went to classes for that for mental health. Now I have a general discharge luckily but it’s hard to get a good job and I am a stay at home dad while my wife works because she makes more money. So you gonna help, Nope, no one cares F$&k you and the military and the US government.

Thank you for sparing your own life. You saved your family and friends and neighbors more pain and suffering than you’ll ever know. People who commit suicide don’t realize how valuable they are and how much their lives count. They also don’t realize the hell and torment they unleash on the people who are left behind. One suicide can open a door to future suicides in the same family. The opposite is also true. Choosing life, choosing to overcome, choosing to get help for depression helps others who are struggling realize it’s okay for them to get help too. Sir, your story may save a life! Thank you for sharing it! I’m thanking God that you survived the war, the PTSD & depression & suicidal thinking and that you’ve lived many fruitful decades! Praise God!

people saying that your solution to your suffering is selfish or just putting it on someone else, get real. The people who love you should be MORE in pain that you are suffering right in front of them and should seek to help you. Society puts so much stigma on being in a mentally weak spot that you will be told to get help but not given it. Help needs to come before the ideation starts so it never gets that far. When people die we need to stop being selfish because they are gone from us and wish them peace in the next life. There is no peace on this planet.

It's not just PTSD that makes vets suicidal. It's also that US society doesn't support them at all. A lot of vets are homeless, even ones who didn't get ptsd. Nobody rehabilitates them and no government program gives them any aid. They can't land jobs and if you don't have a job in the US, the system doesn't even think you exist.

My father committed suicide at the age of 32 leaving behind my mother,my brother age 12 and me 14 years old. I experienced shame anytime someone would ask me how my father died at such a young age.Back then,mental health wasn’t a big issue,as it is now.Growing up I was always so mad at my father for abandoning us and as a result I grew up abusing alcohol and drugs at a young age till I was 55 years old.Now that I’m in my 60’s I realize how young my father was,he was just a kid.He chose a permanent solution to a temporary problem while on drugs and drunk.Thankfully I’ve been sober for over six years and it has helped me appreciate life a little more

I'm a therapist at a drug and alcohol facility, which treats mostly co-occurring disorder. We have a large Vet population at our facility. Granted, I've never had any WWII vets, but our demographic of Vietnam vets are great patients and many of them are alcoholics with CPTSD. In terms of working with clients - they make me feel like what I'm doing matters, because of their attitudes. Yeah, many are grumpy boomers haha, but when I conduct one-on-one sessions it becomes clear that they're very well mannered, respectful men with a lot of empathy and compassion for others. They have tried to self-sooth for so long. Deep down, under that tough exterior are very vulnerable and broken individuals. The ones that saw combat are so traumatized. I'm not a religious man, but I pray for them. I fear they'll never stop using drugs and/or alcohol. It's incredible sad

My father, a WWII veteran of the Navy, took his life in 1965 when I was 5. It was the first real pain I remember and it happened a few weeks before I started first grade. My great grandfather was in ww1, made it home and hung himself during the depression. I didn't understand how he could leave his wife and kids until I went to war myself. My great grandfather as well but a little different. Was in the tank corps and still have his helmet. Came back with a bunch of PTSD and worked in a bank when the Depression hit. Got soo bad and was losing everything when it hit. He tried to even save the bank and changed books to keep it afloat but to no avail. He took his own life after on top of it all, he lost family to sickness. Terrible just terrible. I hope both our great grandfathers found some semblance of peace ✌️🙏

It would also have satisfied the enemy. I’ve been there - to that edge, and realized that I’d be fine, but my family would be devastated, and my enemies would be delighted. I came to my senses, felt all the pain, cried, fought my enemies and defeated them, and stoked the flame within to live my life. 23 years later and a few worse experiences and revelations, suicide continues to remain off the table. In fact, the best of self love and care are my go-to ☕️

@AresF4

If you ever feel like doing it, you need to realize you don't just think "who will this hurt?" it's much more revealing to think "how will this hurt them?" Most people tend to just think of their loved ones and friends and wonder "will they miss me? Will they hurt?" But not many tend to think of their day to day afterwards like this man did. Think of the weeks and months after you do it. If you have kids actually realize the torment they would go through, for some children that would be the catalyst of a downward spiral. For your friends that could affect how they love others and cause them to be too afraid to make new ones, costing them their sociality. If you ever feel like ending it always remember life is full of possibilities. When one closes 10 more open, you just have to find them. Stay Strong, you've already been doing it for so long.
