The gas block is standard low profile steel, which was chosen for durability reasons. The barrel is dimpled and the block is screwed in place. The gas system is midlength. The barrel is 1/8 twist.
Legend tells that one day, Russell will experience sufficient happiness that he will smile. However, successfully launching an innovative product that has been extremely successful in a saturated market despite the most disruptive global catastrophe in over six decades is not enough for him to even experience the teensiest happy microexpression.
I have an early lower in hand...it is. It looks sleek and dangerous and in all ways like the Big Kids did it. I'm not sold on WWSD2020 as a concept, but the lower is genius.
@@jimmah34 It’s a tough one. I like the gun. It seems to take away a lot of the AR modding and easily found components should something break etc etc. But it’s sick... kinda like Glock AR I don’t own an AR have a tavor and feel like I wouldn’t be getting the AR experience.
I saw Russel smile once. I saw hope. I felt bliss. I believed in a brighter day when all on Earth came together as one people. A people who embraced the idea of a useful, lightweight and practical AR. And all was good in the world.
To add to the titanium flash hider commentary, I was a metalworker in the army. We are not taught to work on titanium, only warrant officers are. Titanium dust is extremely flammable, similar to magnesium, and is treated as hazmat.
So excited we're one step closer to having them in our hands! I pre-ordered a WWSD2020 rifle as my first long gun after watching enough firearms content and my time handling M4's with the guard. I believe Stoner would indeed be proud of this modernization of the "SP1" over the behemoth that the AR has become today.
Btw! There was a legitimate use for the forward assist recently discovered over on the MAC. It serves its purpose when you take your rifle, pour water directly into it then leave it out in sub-zero windy weather so the water freezes inside. XD
I don't have a firearms licence yet here in Norway, and I'm not sure what I need to do to get any semi-auto rifle, but the WWSD is definitely a goal I have for the future.
Seems like similar to Australia but with semi autos and self defense accessible to the public. First thing to consider would be whether you are trying to apply for a hunting or competition shooting licence, pick based on practicality, and then research your options from there.
Me: "I'd love to have one of these but I don't really have the mon..." Biden: "Here's $1,400! Please support the economy by purchasing American-made products!" Me: "O-ok..."
I've been following InRange for a little while now, and decided to use the KE Arms KP15 lower for my first AR largely because of this series and the videos that Ian's done on the history of the polymer lower idea. Thanks for the great content!
Actually really excited about the change to 16in barrel w/ threaded flash hider. I was definitely thinking about suppressing, it now there isn't any downsides for me.
I find your honesty refreshing! As A US Army Ranger and a former quality control supervisor for a gun barrel manufacturer, I find this project to be interesting, well thought out and love the idea of a 5 pound rifle. Onces make pounds, pounds make pain! Two pounds less rifle weight, means another thirty rounds you can carry. one mag might make the difference. I hope they sell well for you. I'm considering buying one. thanks
I've really wanted a WWSD2020 but i couldn't afford it so i bought the KP-15 lower with milspec trigger group. Figured maybe i could put one together over time. Now I've learned that my wife is pregnant with twins. No more buying anything. So i stuck the M4 upper on it off of my old AR. It completely changed the feel of it. It's lighter and feels better balanced. Even without all the other WWSD upgrades i'm still happy with it.
Too bad I’m one of the poors. Speaking of being poor, I bought a CZ Scorpion carbine as plinking toy, ‘cause 9mm was supposed to be cheap. Now I’m pretty sure the cheapest caliber I own is my 7.5 Swiss.
Hey a fellow poor! Even if ya cant get the full kit think of the lower for a next build ya can make them cheaper then standard theyre decently lighter and ive been enjoying mine a fair bit. Too bad it wasnt last year where ya could bolt together an enconoline rifle for 400$ again, if that was the case id not be stuck with 1 and a half rifles lol
Well done gentlemen. A logical design and sound production decisions, along with iterative improvements based upon knowledge that can only be gained AFTER fielding. It's almost crazy talk in these times. This is what we need vs the latest trend chasing vaporware. PLEASE keep it up.
coming from the firearms manufacturing world it's good to hear you guys explain everything thoroughly. it'd be awesome to pick your guys' brains on process engineering and product design.
Congrats on production. My favorite thing about the WWSD rifle is the reasoning and explanation behind every part. There were some things where I was like "Why did you do that? That's unnecssary" until I watched the explanation, and at least I'd understand why they went that way. All in all, it's a well thought out build, and I wouldn't hesitate to use one.
Congratulations on a successful project! I remember some in-depth discussions you've had about the huge challenges to developing a new gun successfully.
So jealous!!! You are living the dream. From gun reviewers(+) to actually having gun-manufacturers asking for your input, to taking your gun concept, making it and selling it!!! Amazing!! I doff my chapeau, Sirs!!
Born too late to explore the world, born too early to explore the galaxy, but damn are we lucky to see this go from start to finish. Much excite, so wow :)
In that regard, I'm stoked! I pre-ordered a couple of FDE lowers before realizing they were slated to come out long after the black ones. I'm excited to put the rifles together with a teeny bit of customization. This is such a fantastic project, and as a gun lover who has too little money to buy all the guns, it's one area I'm happy to spend.
I don't know if you guys are doing it but I would let Brownells send this video to every pre orderer to let them know that A: They have pre ordered the WWSD2020 B: That they can see what they get. Wish you guys a good 2021
With Kasada's exaggerated hand movements, I kept thinking I was watching a late night infomercial. I kept expecting to hear "how much would you expect to pay?"
Congratulations Karl and Russell! It's quite and achievement to bring something to the market, especially in our current day. If i hadn't already built my upper in 2018 I would have bought a complete rifle!
Yes the PMAG issue is real. Also seems to be a problem with the 20-round magazines from my experience (pmag and metal). Whatever, you should already have tons of 30-round magazines since they were cheap these last four years.
Very nice. I actually have mines mostly done and I love it and everyone who picksit up is impressed. The only things missing is the BCG and CH. I am impressed with this project and idea. I do also plan to put the lower through the ultimate reliability test here soon.
The remarks about manufacturing and the general lack of understanding is accurate. As a mechanical engineer in the manufacturing industry and firearms enthusiast I hear inaccurate information all the time from other enthusiasts, industry workers, and youtube channels. The one that I hear the most is "its all the same and you're paying for the name" such as uppers and forging marks or barrels with rebranded names.
Congratulations, guys :> I've really enjoyed watching this project and I appreciate all the hard work you've put into making it happen. I'm looking forward to more WWSD2020 content with eager anticipation.
I couldn't wait for mine. Put a Midwest Industries m-lok light weight upper on my completed lower. Serial number under 1000. Love it so far. Thanks for this engineering masterpiece.
I jumped on the pre-order for a lower as soon as Brownells announced it. Had some of the parts already sitting around and all I really needed was the carbon fiber handguard. Had a Faxon 16" pencil barrel with an SLR titanium gas block and a slick side Aero upper. The handguard popped up on arfcom and now I have my own WWSD2020 build!
my only real criticism is that i wish they would've used a different finish on the upper receiver to match the matte look of the poly lower. the carbon fiber blends well enough but the ultra glossy upper receiver just sticks out a bit to much for my tastes.
So chuffed for you, you've produced a work of art as well as one of engineering. The information you've all put out, and the videos would make a wonderful addition to any engineering or manufacturing course.
Great video! Supply chain security is always important, made more visible by the double whamy of high demand and global pandemic disruptions to supply chains. I doubt we’ll collectively remember the lesson, since it adds cost, but I hope businesses will focus less in the future on lean/just-in-time inventories.
I've said this once, I'll say it again. I needed my forward assist twice in boot camp during range week. I was issued a virgin FN-16A4, and was obviously the first recruit to use it based on it's pristine condition. (I scuffed it up by the end.) I cleaned it well, FNs don't have a break in period, and I've been shooting since I was 2. Yet I needed the FA. Removing them is not an option.
Unfortunately, I live in the People's Republik of New Jerseystan. That said, I can't purchase the complete WWSD2020 rifle because...wait for it...it has A REMOVABLE FLASH HIDER! I DID purchase a KP-15 lower (full ambi except for the bolt catch). I mated it to a DSG upper, chromed BCG and ambi charging handle (I tried to get as close as I could to the WWSD2020 as possible. The upper was all that was available, but I like it.) Good Work Gents! That lower is spot on!
My wwsd personal build with the kp15 lower is right at 8 pounds with a LPVO and suppressor which is about the same as my buddies naked AR. Thanks for your hard work to make this possible.
The thing I like most about the SLT-1 trigger is that it can be dry fired repeatedly over & over again WITHOUT having to reset the hammer. This alone makes dry fire practice on an AR AMAZING. The trigger pull itself leaves a bit to be desired imho.
Wow I did not know about th 16 inch barrel change. That and the 15 inch handguard are what I went with for my build for the same reasons listed here. :) so turns out my build is SPOT ON! Took like 2.5 years to finish it woo-hoo! 🙌
The thing about the titanium muzzle device reminds me of _Sledge Hammer!_ "Oh, is that a silencer?" "No, my dad invented this. It's called a loudener."
Zero2323 here but I’m dreaming of my future ambi-FDE. Oh where art though FDE? 🤣 Great work fellas. Patiently awaiting the FDE shipments. Thanks for bringing this to life. Completely satisfied with the KP-15.
Congratulations guys on a job well done! I know many people, including myself, who would love to purchase one of those. Unfortunately we live behind enemy lines and don't have the resources to move to a more free state.
