Music to my Trout Ninja ears. Keep instructing your Son. Your instruction to him is a priceless gift. He'll remember the good parts (catching fish) forever. And perhaps he passes the gift to his children. God Bless You, ~ Trout Ninja ~
Trout Ninja, you're the best! You explained the rig very simply and with nice diagrams. The lady and I haven't fished since we were younger so we started back up.... and after two unsuccessful outings we did some extra research and came across your video. First trip back out using your rig the lady caught a 12" Lahontan Cutthroat Trout out of an urban marina. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Trout ninja, you were bang on with this setup. I took my youngest son out this evening and on the first cast he nailed a nice 10" rainbow. We are going to head out tomorrow and try it in a stocked lake and see what happens. Thanks again.
We use both types. Whatever is in the tackle bag! Also, sometimes I pre-tie my leaders with a loop so I can "speed fish" . Keep fish in net, remover leader, put new leader and hook on, cast, then go back and tend to the fish. Thanks for writing ~ TN ~
@TroutNinjaTV I wasn't using enough dough. I had to use about a nickel's worth...i made sure it floated, casted out ended up catching a pretty decent size trout! It swallowed the hook pretty bad though, which sucked. but he still tasted good :P thanks for the help!
This rig was perfect. Took in-laws from S. Korea out in the San Pablo Reservoir and they took home some good sized rainbows. Plan on using it again soon with my grandparents
So... if you have hooks with a leader pre-attached with a loop at the far end, is it okay to just attach the leader to the swivel with the loop or would it be better re-tied with a clinch knot? Just wondering if the loop is a weak point and prone to snapping around the swivel clip. ;) I'm a rank beginner! Your video is awesome.... Can't wait to try this next time I'm out.
You can just attach the loop. Personal preference. However, you still need to make sure the leader is the right length! By the way, the weak points tend to be the knots. But when you fish for the typical stocked trout (10 inches) using 4 or 6 lb test for leaders and mainline, unless you have a badly tied knot, it really doesn't matter too much. It's not Barracuda fishing. ~ Trout Ninja ~
@hoshnasi Works great for catfish. You may want to shorten your leader to about a foot or even less. Use the right line strength and the right sized circle hook for your lake's catfish. And use a floating catfish bait. Tell me how it works out for you. ~ TN ~
Hey Swamp Ape, if your lures are catching a lot, I wouldn't change a thing. Yes, rocks steal your $5 lures. I feel your pain. Now, if the trout in the stream are stocked (not wild), then try using a tiny hook at the end with a tiny split shot about 18 inches above the hook. That's what I use on streams and brooks with stocked trout. I save the lures for streams with wild trout. Hope that helps! ~ Trout Ninja ~
My question is why do you use a latch swivel, why not just use a double sided swivel. I am not sure what the latch does for you unless you are using factory leaders with hooks. thanks Ninja
I have personally caught steelhead numerous times over 10 lbs And I know that a 18 inch rainbow does not way over 7 LBS and a 11 inch Rainbow does not weigh 4 pounds. ON average an 11 inch fish weights under a Pound and a 18 inch rainbow might be 3-4lbs, but Definately not 7 lbs. When you start hitting the 7 lb mark you are getting rainbows that are 24-28 inches. Hope this helps with estimating weights
@gear47 We use barrel swivels or barrel swivels with the snap. Whichever is in the tackle bag. As long as it is a swivel so your line doesn't get too twisted. Thanks for watching. My opinion. Pautzke's. Green label. Because they stay on a tiny salmon egg hook. The hook seems to easily penetrate the egg skin when a trout swallows it. And they've worked for me (on stocked trout) in streams and creeks. If anyone has better experience with a different brand, please share with me.~ Trout Ninja ~
@xenviousx Go catch more trout! Thanks for commenting. Very cool of you to take the in-laws fishing. Get pics of the Grandparents and email em to me at the TroutNinjaTV website. You can see my parents there in the Field Tester section. They came out last Thanksgiving and caught a lot of trout using the same exact rig with Trout Ninja Floating Formula. ~ Trout Ninja ~
@oaklands643 Finally...Go Bears. Thanks! Where I live in the Cincy area there are only 2 Cal Bears fans. My friend who kicked for Cal in the 70's and me. God Bless You and the Golden Bears ~ Trout Ninja ~
@epicfisher Thanks for watching. Field Testers must apply. Not all are chosen. If you sign up for tips at TroutNinjaTV com, you'll get an email after about a week which describes the Field Tester application process. Now Go Catch Some Fish! ~ Trout Ninja ~
#6 red hook, #8 drift bobber green or multicolor, 1oz weight for a good cast. Ultragreen 4# Have never needed a swivel. Chartreuse power bait or fake eggs or half worm.
@xTW33T3Rx Seems odd to me. If the stocked trout where you fish are average of about 10 inches, use a #16 treble hook. If it still sinks, just add barely enough until it floats. A ball of bait smaller than a U.S. dime (1 cm) should float it. Report back! ~ Trout Ninja ~
I say 300 is possible if there a good number of trout that has been stocked. in just 3 hours I caught 109 rainbows using a single lure not powerbait but an actual lure
@ Steven Blake. Name me one natural forage item, common to all trout lakes and streams, that is neon green, orange, or any other unnatural color that artificial dough baits come in. I'm not saying the stuff doesn't ever work because, obviously, the colors can spark a trout's curiosity to check it out and then discover it has a burst of yummy flavor. However, it tends to be most effective on hatchery stocked trout that are used to having large, unnatural looking nuggets thrown to them and will readily take such an offering and such baits work best during active morning and evening feeding times. Yes, wild cutthroat will hit this kind of stuff with reckless abandon at times but it is a widely known fact amongst avid trout anglers that cutthroat trout aren't nearly as selective about what they feed on as rainbow and, especially, brown trout. If you learn what lures and flies to use to imitate natural food items, how to use them, and when to use them, not only will you catch more trout but you will be able to target multiple species of trout, other cold water species, and you will find some of the methods you employ for salmonids are also great for some warm water species. Don't get stuck on one technique because a savvy angler changes his presentation to suit the situation and everyone else says they aren't biting and goes home.
Hey! we finally got a facebook page. Come over and leave us a message. Tell me what you'd like to know about catching trout or the Trout Ninja. Thanks for your support.. facebook com/TroutNinjaTV
If you bait chuck and wait for trout then you are an armchair angler with a very limited knowledge of the feeding habits of trout, the tendencies of different trout species, and the knowledge to successfully land them when going after wild trout, catching fish any other time then active morning and evening feeding times, and knowing what the trout are after specifically and presenting it in a way that gets results. As soon as you catch and release 300 or more trout in a day, let me know.
fish guru, I personally do not believe that you have landed 300 trout in a day. the fish fight, plus time to retie leader, move, rebait, its just not possible to catch 300 trout in a day. my best efforts resulted in 60+ trout but of course it was near a hatchery falls
Granted it takes all day or night, dependent on when you are fishing and how long you can stay out, but it is possible. Rather than assuming it is an impossibility and asserting that I am telling a tall tale, you could ask how. However, I do not feel compelled to give helpful information to people who question my integrity on a public forum.
Ive personally hammered the trout on hatchery waters, and could only come up with around 50-60, So either you are a bionic machine like the T1000 on terminator, Or im highly doubting you caught 300 in one day. I would believe between 100-150 if you were with a group of guys, but alone , 300 trout, I think thats a fish tale, sorry man.
Bill clinton So you definitely aren't going to believe that I've had several days over 300 with crappie and a personal best over 500 for white bass. I also suppose you are going to tell me it isn't possible to catch two fish every single cast either.
LOLLLLLLLLLLLLL CRAPPIE AND WHITE BASS I JUST DIED LAUGHING.. THATS NOT EVEN HARD, WE ARE TALKING ABOUT TROUT NOT FUCKING WHITE BASS YOU INBRED POND FISHER BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CATCHING WHITE BASS AND CRAPPIE AND CATCHING TROUT. IVE CAUGHT MORE THEN THAT OUT OF THE LAKE BEHIND MY HOUSE WHEN I WAS 12 YEARS OLD WITH A ZEBCO303
WHEN IM SAYING 60 FISH A DAY, IM TALKING ABOUT LAKE RUN STEELHEAD RAINBOW TROUT, NOT THESE LITTLE DINKY RAINBOWS OUT OF A POND, OR BLUEGILL CRAPPIE OR WHITE BASS. THERES A BIG DIFFERENCE IN THE SPECIES, WHEN YOU CATCH 50-60 STEELHEAD IN A DAY COME MESSAGE ME AGAIN
***** He posted this on his Facebook page April 22, 2014...Trout Ninja Here! So many of you have been asking if I'm still fishing. 2013 was a lost year. My wife of 22 years and Mother to my children was diagnosed with cancer February 2013. She passed away 6 months later. I will get back to fishing. But time is very tight. My daughter is 12 and son 19. With God, we'll manage. Thanks for your support and prayers. God Bless You, ~ Trout Ninja ~
