Here is what the plaque at the Earl home says: Wyatt Berry Stapp Earp 1848 - 1929 Josephine Sarah Marcus Earp 1861 - 1944 Earp Cottage Vidal, California The legendary lawman, gun-fighter, gambler, businessman and miner along with his wife, Josephine, inhabited this "dream - come - true" cottage from 1925 - 1928. During the fall, winter and spring months, while he worked his "Happy Days" mines in the Whipple Mountains a few miles north of this site. This is the only permanent residence they owned in their long lives together. Their ashes are buried in the Hills of Eternity Memorial Park, Colma, California Erected 2002 by Billy Holcomb Chapter, E. Clampus Vitus. (Marker Number 108.)

I was a trucker for years & years. Rolled through Vidal Jnt many, many times. Had no idea Wyatt Erp had a house there. He came to Dodge City KS in the 1870's same time my great grandfather was there as a blacksmith and sheriff. Wyatt refused to hang up his gun with the bartender so they fetched the sheriff (Peter Walter Beamer). Refused him too. So he got decked to the ground! But then, P.W. helped him back to his feet and they were good friends from then on. P.W. died in 1924 or '25 in San Diego, Calif. My dad was born in '23 so didn't really know him. But Wyatt ended up in California eventually as well. P.W. was born in 1842 and I believe Wyatt was a bit younger. Seems like he stuck to those forlorn places of the West (Tucson, AZ, Goldfield, NV, Vidal, CA). Vidal Junction sure has changed since I last saw it. But that check station has been there since dirt!! Yeah, that would be a grim duty station to be sure! Thanks for the great video. I really enjoyed it! Take good care.

Love all your RU-vid videos. Our parents used to take us kids to the Parker Strip in the 60's. We stayed at Big Bend. The drone footage was incredible! As kids we would jump off the cable tower into the River. They took to tower down but you can still see the concrete pad in your drone footage. We hiked to many mines behind Big Bend Resort. Thanks for sharing your adventure.

There was more to see in Vidal. The next street over in back of Wyatt Earp's home was an old store and other ruins. We've also been to his Lucky Day mine. Not much to it. A hole in the ground. Someone owns the claim as of two years ago, but it's just open.

I have visited a couple of gold mines owned by Wyatt Earp. The nearest mine was a few miles west of the Big River entrance and a few miles north of that location. I would suggest only using a high profile 4x4 vehicle in that rugged area equipped with all terrain tires or mud hens tires.

The big trees look like Saltcedar (tamarisk). It's non-native and invasive. They grow fast and live up to 100 years. Not very good trees though. They are water hogs and can really dry up an area.

Wyatt Earp the controversial famous sheriff of Tombstone. Like one poster here said that likely this home was a winter home because the summer's there along that river are incredibly hot. He most likely was running away from arrest for murder otherwise I believe he would have stayed in the town of Tombstone because of weather there is by far more moderate. I'm quite sure that little town was up and running when he bought that house.
