Thank you for the only review I can find on RU-vid with this backgammon board. Bought one yesterday, green case with mustard field and nickel checkers. Prestige class.
I had a Gen II board and it had horrible durability. Started coming apart almost immediately. Many others reported similar issues. I stayed away from the brand for a long time. However, I kept hearing good things about the Gen III boards. So I took a risk and purchased a Gen III/Master's set. I'm glad I did. It is a much improved board. I also got a 21 inch Crisloid. The build quality on the Crisloid is clearly superior, but I really like both.
Thank you for your comment, I felt in love with those checkers (fingerdish) and design but also heard people complaining about lack in quality, so I didn´t buy... Gen. III should be fine? Are you still satisfied with it? Kind regards and good games!! 🎲🎲
@@vlladellu - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sORCa3HQAsc.html - An 'unboxing' video of my recently acquired custom-designed Crisloid board. I agree that Crisloid makes a very nice board. I was really looking at the Wycliffe board with the nickel-plated checkers, but glad I went with Crisloid instead. Cheers.
Your review got me interested in getting a Wycliffe Bros. board. I am getting the Master version in Light Grey field with Black & White points. Wanted to keep the board with neutral colors. So I can mix and match different colors for the checkers and so as to contrast with the field and points colors. I am going to ditch the checkers that come with the board and use the checkers I like more. Since the checkers are the same ones offered by Gammon Village. I am getting their 1 3/4" opaque checkers instead. The points seemed to bleed through the checkers in your video. I don't like that look. At least with opaque checkers I will not have to deal with that look.
@@SalvableRuin If you are considering tournament play then the last thing you want is to turn up with a second rate board. IMHO Crisloid And Wycliffe are the best value for money out there.
Thanks for the video; it’s the only one I’ve found on the Wycliffe Brothers 21 inch board. I noticed a difference between the detailed finish on your board versus images on Wycliffe website. It looks as though the exterior (and possibly interior) surfaces of the attaché are stitched. Is that correct? The websites show the croc finish as completely smooth, no stitching, as distinct from the newer Masters versions of the Wycliffe boards. Could you possibly post any pictures of the internal and external stitching of case? I’m planning to purchase one of Wyciffe’s 21 inch boards but I’m dithering about croc versus leatherette. One of the distinctions between the two has been stitching. Can’t seem to get a straight answer from any vendors. Anytime you could take to reply much appreciated. Thanks!
No probs . There seems to be stitching along the outer edges etc but without pulling at the what seems to be stitching I could not say whether it is real stitching or just made to look like it is stitched . But It is well and truly stuck down and robust .
Gen1Rev22RAWReviews Great, thanks! Have you seen the new Masters edition of their 21” attache boards? They are leatherette instead of croc, and they seem to have additional detailing around the border of each playing field as well as stitching (or faux stitching) on the interiors as well. Curious if your croc edition exhibits the same detailing. (I’m comparing photos at gammonvillage.com and American-wholesaler.com).
Gen1Rev22RAWReviews Thanks again. Please don’t go out of your way to check this, but I would be curious to learn what you finally discover if you get by the store (or another player’s board). I think perhaps the stock photos online have not kept up with changes in the attaché case detailing. Thanks again for posting your review; it’s the only one out there I found that reviewed the board well. It’s a beaut by the way! I love the contrast of those red and black points.
I cannot believe that this is the only review for a wycliffe board, well thx for that!! Are you still satisfied or does it lack in termes of quality? Kind regards and good games!! 🎲🎲
Still enjoy it . I don't drag it around with me anywhere so it doesn't get a hiding etc . May be I should give it a good roughing up to give it a real testing , ha ha ha .
The fact that this is imitation leather is understandable but the imitation Croco emphasizes this fact. Don't like that. Just a plain flat leather with maybe the companies logo embossed and this would be a consideration for a quality Backgammon set. Also the hinges being exposed looks cheap. As is it doesn't make my list.
Ha ha ha. Great observation. But it is done now, I have no more control. Hope you recover from your motion sickness soon. Thanks for your honest comment.
