Wynton Marsalis, internationally acclaimed musician and Pulitzer Prize recipient, provides words of inspiration to the Class of 2023 at the University of Michigan Commencement on Saturday, April 29th in Ann Arbor, MI. #classof2023
This was such an incredible speech, and I cannot believe how lucky I am that I got to hear it at my own commencement. It was a privilege and honor to meet this man with the Michigan Marching Band, Go Blue!!
We were there for our son who graduated Magna Cum Laude in Electrical Engineering, April 2023 and Wynton's speach was phenomenal. A man with inspiration, hope and dreams!
I only ever heard Wynton Marsalis play before, never to speak until right now. Colour me gobsmacked. All from memory, his rousing speech is in the ilk of MLK; it said it all and it says it all. An outstanding message, not only for the graduates he addresses, but for us all. Please share, far and wide, as I am doing right now.
We had the privilege of being there. Wynton’s speech was a call to action, whilst not being divisive. I’ve used some of the same words in my description…”rousing” in the ilk of “MLK”. The class of ‘23 is up to the task. AMaizing young adults! Go Blue!
Wow, that's a speech and a half. Please share, the whole world needs to hear this. Thank you Wynton, that is up there and surpassing some of your best trumpet solo. Mr. Marsalis for president I say!
This makes me miss A2 and the many times I had the privilege to hear this genius and his instrument, to see his immense inner thoughts made known via his words and music at Hill Auditorium -- nothing else compares. I graduate in a few weeks, and this is the speech I wanted and needed to hear. Thank you, Wynton Marsalis, for calling out the many ways we are segregating ourselves and not living a shared reality. We should emulate jazz and come together as a nation to make a new sound, one that can be recognized by all as awareness of each other's contributions to the whole.
