Probably the purest tone of any living trumpet player. The most technically talented. Don’t get wrong there are other amazing players.

Hahaha, the one and only downside of Wynton is his tone. It’s good sure but not amazing. Don’t get me wrong, I still think he’s the best all around trumpet player who’s ever lived, no one can as seamlessly go from jazz to classical and back like he did. He’s just never had a great tone. Someone who’s really underrated but has one of the best tones (particularly on smaller trumpets Eb & piccolo) is Guy Touvron. I literally didn’t know piccolo trumpet could sound so pure.
@morpheus3190

@@UNTrumpet Think James Morrison can match anything Wynton can do in any genre. Wynton doesn’t have the chops like Morrison. But yeah Wynton is a true technical genius especially in classical. Definitely one of the best to ever live.
@UNTrumpet
@UNTrumpet 5 месяцев назад
@@morpheus3190 I'll be honest, I had no idea Morrison did any classical. The guy is a beast no doubt, especially for being so good on sooo many damn instruments, but Wynton's gotta be the cross genre GOAT. He literally won Grammys in Jazz and Classical in the same year, and did so basically to shut people up about him not being as good at classical.

Back in the day, Wynton’s technique was flawless and without peer. His effortless range was magical. Unfortunately, that high level of performance is difficult to maintain once the time obligations associated with contracts and travel increase for a young performer. It was an amazing time in the trumpet world when “Carnival” and his trumpet concerto recordings were released. I wonder how many Schilke Eb and Bb/A piccolo trumpets were sold during that time.

@aliciadalbey1201
@aliciadalbey1201 Год назад
@@adamchromy520 I'm saying the playing is magnificent. But every concerto by Hayden or otherwise at this time period of classical music sounds the same. If I heard one and never found another, yes it would be awesome, but every subsequent concerto makes them less interesting because they sound the same. The players are all obviously amazing, but the music it'self is less than engaging when you here perfect cadence with a trill #22.
@mahlerbartok
@mahlerbartok Год назад
The cadenza portions are very similar since they tend to be stretched out dominant chords with runs and arpeggios over top, ending with that classic trill. But I recommend you listen more closely to the rest of the music
@aliciadalbey1201
@aliciadalbey1201 Год назад
@@mahlerbartok that wasn't condescending at all. As a trumpet player, I've listened to a many trumpet concerti.. I will say Neruda for Eb horn is a good one. Arutunian is another stand out!
@FrankTheStud
@FrankTheStud Год назад
Keep in mind the Haydn concerto and Hummel were written within ten years of one another and were made to show off the new Eb "keyed trumpet," which had the player explore the entire chromatic range of the horn, something that had never been done before due to the limitations of the trumpet at the time. Not withstanding that this instrument is completely new and no one has written for the Eb keyed trumpet before, the two most popular classical composers for it combining these new chromatics/scale patterns with traditional fanfare-like elements was a great way to show the audience that the trumpet has now reached a point where the sky was the limit for trumpet. No longer was it limited to its overtone series, but completely viable as a solo-voiced instrument in a similar vain to the violin. Trills are generally an exciting moment in music as it's a build up to a cadence/resolution. The excitement comes from everyone knowing it's coming and when it comes it's like a musical "cheer" for joy.

There is a reason he stayed with Jazz and not classical, he is amazing but not Maurice Andre type amazing. Now he is a museum piece, when he tries new things his music either sounds like Ellington or Mingus. He really hasn’t evolved into anything but a great trumpet player,he stays nice and cozy being the musical director at Lincoln Center. I really expected bigger things from him when he first came onto the scene. Armstrong, Dizzy, Miles, they changed music, I guess I can say Wynton perfected it.

Hey 👋 God loves y'all. So much, that Jesus died on the cross for our sins so we can be saved from hell. Repent and put your faith in Him before it's too late, for the Kingdom of God is at hand. This world is temporary, and leads to unfulfillment, disappointment, and hurt, but God gives true peace, purpose, love, and joy. God bless 🙏
