I have the orbea vibe H10 with the range extender and I like you have a habit of forgetting to turn it on! I’m in the U.K. I think it just trickle feeds the main battery to keep it charged, I must say I’m 62 but having great fun riding for miles. Great video….
Thank you or the information. I've just bought one for my X35 system but the bit I don't understand is on the Ebikemotion website it states that the range extender can be used in 3 different modes: Battery charger, battery charger while moving (2A or when motor is cut off) and assist to the battery. How do you choose the mode?
You can use it independently to just charge the battery in the down tube. You can mount it on the bike and as you ride it charges as a trickle charger at 2 amps when on. The suggestion is to turn both the range extender and the downtube battery on while riding. when you turn the range extender battery on while connected to the bike it will automatically turn on the battery in the down tube.
Great review fella very helpful.Ive just bought a Gain and am really interested the in Heart Rate assist feature within the app.Can i ask if you have already used this feature ?
@@joepaulabbott Its the app designed by Ebikemotion.it connects with the bike and yourself if you have a heart monitor,it also lets you adjust assist levels and has a navigation feature.
I use Strava in stead of the e-bike motion app. I am considering increasing mode ones percentage a little and decreasing modes two and three. I have ridden 2500 mi on the gain since March and kind of feel one doesn't give me quite what I want and mode two and three give too much. Trying to find a happy medium between one and two that maximizes battery life. Don't really have any need for routing because I ride roads locally
I leave it on bike. My thought is it will make the interior battery in the down tube last longer. The range extender Powers the motor first then the interior battery takes over when there's no more juice left in the extender. a new range extender is easier to purchase and install then the interior battery.
Hello Joe Paul I would like to know if you are still using the Orbea Extender. I consider that it is a useful equipment for some long distance rides or demanding topographic conditions, but have doubt if that extender behaves like a charger or if it provides energy to the motor when the assistance is activated. Is there a way to verify how much power the extender delivered and how much power the main battery delivered? How is the energy contribution of the extender really verified? There is not much clear information so I will appreciate your comments based on real experience.
There is no additional wattage of power over the 250 w if that is what you are asking. The extender sort of acts as a trickle charger to the down tube battery. Basically it extends your ride by keeping the down tube battery charged until the extender battery is depleted.
See below. Don't confuse what hours with watts of power. If you ride regularly 50 miles or more I highly recommend the extender. I have lost some what hours in the down tube battery but not the extender.
@@joepaulabbott Thanks your reply. Does this mean that in the Orbea Display device you can see how the % of remaining charge increases when the extender is charging the main battery? Or how do you check that extender is in fact charging the main battery?
The old app for the bike was ebike motion. I just downloaded the new app because I haven't ridden my orbea in a while since I bought my specialized ebike. But the app shows you the total charge left adding the downtube battery and the extender together and tells you the range of miles you have. For instance mine showed 84% charge on the down to battery and 75% charge on the extender battery as I did not recharge the last time I rode it. With 84% left on the downtube battery in 75% left on the extender the app shows that I can go 66 miles. The app is My Smart bike by Mahle. I hardly ever use this app other than to see the percentage charge on my downtube battery and my extender battery and the miles I can go.
Hi, I have a Cannondale Treadwell Neo ebike, which uses the X35 ebike motion system - will this extender work with it? Also, it does not have screws to put a bottle cage on, do you think the extender could be housed in some sort of frame bag?
I have read online that it works with that night with the problem is length of the cord and where it is mounted. I would go to a bike shop and have them mount a bottle cage where one usually is on the seat down too if possible. There's very little tolerances for length of that cable. I keep my extender connected all the time and charge both batteries through it.
Informative video on the X35 extender. I've been contemplating whether or not I would need it since the built in battery has decent range. Should I opt to buy it, does the holder lock the battery in place or does it just sit like a water bottle? It's quite an expensive addition at $650 so I want to make sure I'm able to secure it. Also, what saddle are you using? Thanks!
I thought the same thing when I bought the bike about the battery within the tube being enough. You will definitely ride more and further with this bike. You will also ride with riders better than you. If you buy the extender and road on mode three the entire time with a group of A riders probably would keep up decent and get 60 miles total out of both batteries. It comes with its own mount and you take the bottle holder off and replace with the battery mount. Very secure I never take mine off. The charger hooks directly to the x35 battery and charges both batteries. I bought my battery on sale but would have bought it had I not seen it on sale and I do think it's worth considering seriously. The saddle is the Selle Royale Asphalt GR that came on the bike and I like it. I don't know what your average mph is but mine is 14 to 15 mph on my Specialized Roubaix. Depending on who I am riding with I will average 16 and a half to 19 and a half mph on my Orbea. With both batteries you get around 100 miles on mode 1, 80 miles on mode 2, and 60 miles on mode 3. You are definitely going to ride at least 30% more than you have been when you get the bike. I don't think you can go wrong getting the extender. Hope that helps
@@joepaulabbott Thanks for the info Joe. Where did you buy the battery on sale? Is it still on sale and is there a discount code? I'll plan to get my hands on the extender soon after winter time. Safe riding out there!
First trial on my D10 Orbea was a reasonably flat road circuit. , and I achieved 70 miles on number 1 setting and the battery And bike was secondhand and exactly 3 years old. Now I am use to the bike and ride some steep hills etc , I am aveageing about 40 miles per ride. So the question is this , the battery is 4 years old , with the added mileage of 3,700 miles plus whatever the previous owner did for 3years !, will I be ok now to buy the extender for this 4 year old battery ?. I am extremely happy that I purchased this 2018 bike for £1,700 pounds. Level one 20 miles , level 2 , 10 miles , level3 10 miles , total 40 miles a ride for me .
Joe thank you for your video, I bought my wife the X35 and she loves it, but needs more range. We rode last weekend uphill a lot and she only got 26 miles. So she really needs the extender. Do you have a source you like to buy from, does it come normally with the bottle holder and have you come across any promo codes to get the price down a bit? Thank you Dave & Shelly
The x35 came with the holder and I used the screws that were already in the bike. Mike's Bikes is where I purchased it and they do periodically have discounts
