We've got a steady flow of PLH2.0 & Archery ABT lined up for the next good while!! Can we get you all to show up for PLH2.0 and share what it means to chase game on public land!! We love the pursuit 🤘🤙
Yes on the butchering. I always like to see what people do with their game meat. I've butchered my own since I started hunting with my Dad! Love the arrow comparisons! ABT
I'm betting the scattered grouping of the X-impacts are due to the difference in the .166 vs .204 diameter. The bow is sighted in with the larger diameter arrows and the rest position set accordingly. Those .166 may be a touch nock high. Not enough to effect short range impact but out at distance it would definitely play a factor in arrow flight.
Excited for the Dec 13 episode man! I personally would love a video on elk processing , there are tons of videos but everyone has their way of doing things. Although I wouldn’t worry about it if it is too much, usually that’s family time (processing). Cheers Dan and Tim!
It would be great to see your elk butchering techniques, I'm especially interested in this arrow build, since my draw length is only 27.5" and this is almost exactly the next arrow build I'll be trying. Thanks!
@@ElkShape I use the victory VAPs but I use the ethics archery inserts. They have worked out very well for me. I am intrigued by the black eagle insert system for 4mm arrows, mainly because you can lock down the collar/outsert. The ethics archery gives me 135 grains up front from the insert/outsert system. If I ever want to drop a little weight, I will try out the Victory shok ss outsert (95 grains) as well as the black eagle insert/outsert system (80 grains, but maybe can combine all ss to more weight?).
If I remember correctly when I built my Rampages they were a thinner wall and light gpi compared to the RIP. Which allowed me to achieve a greater FOC%. But I think Victory insert/outsert is far superior to Black Eagles. I have way to many .204 components to switch to .166. I’m not completely sold on high Foc as I mainly shot FMJ with a nice overall weight and with a good COC 3 blade penetration and arrow flight was always good.
Elk, deer, bear, antelope butchering I think whatever you hunt would be great videos man! Especially if you broke it down with the basic equipment you started with to what you got now! Would be super helpful!
Nice brah!! I’ve been shooting victory arrows for a few years now, started with the VAP TKO but I’ve had a couple break after hitting rocks and one on an oak tree from pass throughs on deer,, (not a super big issue) but I switched to the RIP TKO because I’ve found them to be more durable..long/funny story but I shot one from the inside of my house through an outside wall into my drive way and it still spun true,,no wobble,, the field tip was bent to f*** though
Love the X impacts with the 80 FOCOS outserts with the single bevel Iron Will broad heads. There is nothing I can’t blast through. Super accurate and fly awesome with a correct tune!
Don't loctite those screws on the X-impact. The beauty of the system is to be able to index a broadhead or replace the outsert if need be. Screw heads will round out if you put too much effort tightening or loosening with something like loctite. What I do to get then screws to stay put is to put some bow string wax on the threads. Seems to work
You shot very well with the arrows you have the greater experience with - the others may tighten up as you get accustomed to them. I shoot the VAP Elite .166 - I may need to buy several dozen to mitigate the supply issues. Great video. Good looking puppy. Thank you for sharing your tinkering.
Heck yeah to the elk butchering, its the second to last part in the Public Land Hustle. I have been looking at both of those arrows 🏹 among some others to build my first arrows ever. I enjoy making things with my hands and what would be better than taking a deer 🦌 with an arrow that I built? I have a new bow that I bought last summer and plan on running it in 2022 and beyond, so I want to start fresh with new arrows for my PRIME BLACK 3 that was barely used (50 shots) and I bought for $600.
RIP tko elite arrows with the rampage 6.72 f.o.c.o.s. System is a awesome setup. Missed and hit rocks and bent the outsert and broadhead all up but replaced the outsert and broadhead and the arrow is still ready to kill something.
Kinda amazed not to see more comments about the dog? What an incredible tragedy man.. RIP Ruby.. Really aching to hear exactly how it went down, has that particular episode been released yet? God forbid an elk stomped her... At least you got Sam now, glad to see that you've healed from that!
Have you looked at spinning inserts from Ethics archery? It seems to be good in theory, but not sure if it’s a gimmick or just hasn’t caught on yet. Thanks
FYI use purple Loctite on tiny screws like the focos outserts. You will be able to get them off when you need to and they will not loosen up. I use The purple Loctite on all of my rifle scopes rings. Never had them loosen up. And can always get them off without a problem
Really sorry to hear about your furry kid. That SUCKS! Dogs and cats are members of the family! Videowise- Great stuff! As always! I try to watch, comment, and like EVERY video from Elk Shape! Not only do I honestly enjoy and appreciate all of your vids, but feel like you should have 10x as many subs and views as you do. Top quality archery channel - best of the best archery material \content on RU-vid- ABT! and 365! Positivity level is inspiring! Thanks for the informative subject matter and tinks! Learning something from Every video I watch is the main reason I like watching hunting, shooting, fishing, technical videos. Just to watch a vid and not learn anything seems like I'm missing something from my time spent. Thx again from another Spokane guy!
The 2 arrows will hit and fly different if you are shooting them w/out tuning between the switch.... They are different ID/OD so your rest will need raised for the ximpact compared to the tko. would be curious if you would paper tune each w/ your setup as is, and see how different the tears are between the two different shaft sizes w/ the same rest settings. should be close, but still different, and stretched out to 63 yards.. yeah, will show difference in the sight tape
I need to re-tune for the x-impacts, absolutely and of course, we'll capture it for a future episode, this was sort of after the build quick inspection! Thanks! -DS
@@ElkShape yep Last year I kind of did a ranch fairy process. RIP XV 350 & 300, both RF point kits from Sirius, bare shafted all combos and found a few setups that tuned well. Only mistake I made was rest was set for standard dia. arrows from when I purchased from shop. I ended up with RIP TKO 300s,. Went with ethics outserts with collars, total 140 up front plus 125 heads, Magnus black hornet. Only issue I had was the ID of the collar was too tight on broadheads shank. Was all I could do to tighten broadheads. Tried Slick Tricks as well. One of those got so tight needed pliers to remove. broke loose collars I had glued, and snapped blades off. This year I will order early enough to get RIP XV 300s, and go 125 ethics half out, skip the collar. Still shoot 125 heads. I also shoot Rayzr 2" feathers. 3 feathers lighter than 1 vane. Maximize FOC
Yes to the butchering, I was actually wondering about that as I'm going through your videos, curious what you do with all the animals you harvest, bear included. Also you mentioned you cold store your meat, do you just use a local butcher shop for that or do you have your own place? Thanks!
Dan, are you using the left helical on the arrows that you shoot the iron will single bevel with. I think the answer is yes, but I would like to hear your input on a left helical and a right single bevel.
@@ElkShape I was wondering if you changed your fletchings for the Iron Will. Glad you did! My whitetail this year was shot with a single bevel and I had the same, where the inside was completely destroyed but not a ton of blood. I’m guessing in both our cases the heads weren’t as sharp as the could have been. Much better trails with a sharp head regardless of design or size.
Hey I just purchased your side plates really nice only thing I noticed is the lettering tends to be a little sharp it would be really cool if it could be molded in the side plate itself but otherwise really nice product
Hey Dan. I've been thinking of the X-Impacts for a few months now, but I haven't pulled the trigger. How long are the X-Impact outserts/collars and how far do they go down the shaft?
The regular outserts on mine add 3/4" of length, and cover 7/8" of the shaft. I used the 80 grn SS insert/ aluminum outsert which adds 1 and 1/16" in length and covers 13/16" of your shaft. Hope this helps 🤘
I made both VAP TKO'S & Black Eagle X-Impact's. I have a 30" draw & shoot 62-64 lbs. The Victory arrows r 300 spine & the X-Impact's r 250. I did this on purpose since the X-Impact's do not have that 45% extra wrap on them. I didn't get enough extra time this year to give tha Black Eagles a fair chance. But they seem to be consistent & I made 7 & still have all 7. When I shoot 3D's I put an arrow where I'm aiming & then shoot another target & then another. After I have an arrow in each target I then chase the arrow. I shoot another shot 2" above a shot in the target. Then another to the left or right 2". Way too much effort put into my bare shafts to just put them blindly with others into a target. Everyone of them is a potential #1 arrow in my quiver. I also age deer meat like 8-14 days. It makes a difference but u need that temp to be a mean temperature, not a low temp reading while disregarding the high. Thanks for the video. How come u haven't tried the VAP TKO'S. They r extra special.😋
Yeah I have a hard time not slapping the RIPtko v1s I got, at almost any range if I'm half decent. To at least 40 I can't repeat the same aiming point, they're ridiculous.
I want to see you test angled shots with those two arrows. I bet you will find the focus system bends and fails. ABT right!!! Shoot it through particle board (similar density to elk rib bone) at an angle that equivalent to a quartering away shot.
Dry aging is the best way to prepare any kind of big game, if you have the ability, there’s nothing like eating something you harvested and processed yourself. It is truly eating organic. Glory be to God always for giving us the ability to archery hunt and hunt period 👊🏻💪🏻🤙🏻
How much do the side plates change your draw length. Just made the switch to a v3x 33…..love the setup and my DL is perfect just not in love with the engage grip
Wish there were more comparison between arrow types/brands. Just shooting them once really isn’t enough info to really compare them. Be interesting to see how different brands compare durability wise, weight/speed differences, etc
Dan, you're missing out on making some breakfast sausage/Italian blends with that burger, imo. My go to is a company named Leggs out of Alabama. Founded nearly 100 years ago their products are THE BEST. Mix up a chub or two and give it a chance. Stay away from the big box stores of mixes, imo. I to have a LEM grinder. Cheers.
Why left helical? Is that how arrow naturally comes off bow? Do you notice a difference compared to straight? Thanks! Love what your putting out. Last year I Dove into tinkering and I’m in joying it, real eye opener!!
definitely more on gutting/butchering, now for an archery newbie question? im somewhat double jointed in the elbows so i tend to really alter my grip to keep from turning my elbow inward..... is there another way?
@@ElkShape I understand I have been trying to find me a nice tough arrow that isn’t ridiculous price like the bishop archery arrows but the rip tko are great flying arrows but I bought a dozen and after like 6months I’m down to 6 of them and I’m not happy spending $150 on shafts to them not to hold up. I might look into black eagle to try this year
Are your RIP TKOs and X-Impacts the same or different spines? If you continue to find the X-impacts print much larger groups, they may be a bit dynamically stiff, or weak perhaps? Maybe also look at the nocks, if they are different. At 60 yds, the X-impacts should easily compete with the TKOs in terms of raw accuracy, so I suspect the difference will be in one of the details somewhere. Enjoy the tinkering! I can’t stop….
I don't think I heard him talk about spine. I had Victory VAP TKO's in the 300 spine. A year ago right now I had a new bow on order. I bought some Blackeagle X-Impact shafts & had them cut just a little longer about 3/8". When I made them up & bare shaft shot all of them I put 4 vanes on them. I ordered the X-Impact's cuz they offer a 250 spine. Both sets of arrows shoot great. It's a little tougher when u have a longer draw to get high FOC but the g.p.i. on the X-Impact's is very good considering the 250 spine.
Did you see a low tear in paper with the ximpacts? When I went down to rips xv from standard diameter arrows I had to bump my rest up a very small ammount.
So you are telling the rumour is true, Hamskea is coming out with a dovetail rest😳😳😳!?! Yes for butchering vids, I always like to learn! Keep up your awesome work guys!!!
@@ElkShape thanks Dan!!! Pretty excited about this one!!! Will keep my V3 31 this year but will make the switch!!! Will probably take out some « bulkiness » out of the original one and more solid mount!
How far from the back of the arrow tare u running your fletchings? Just curious cause I’m running 2” vanes and I can’t seem to get them away from my face but they r set pretty far back.
When you were shooting the single bevel were you still shooting left helical fletch? My reservation for trying them is the right bevel and natural left clocking out of the bow so I've always fletched left as well. Seems like the two would compete and stall the rotation some. Hoping they come out with left bevel ASAP.
