The first X-Men movie is great, but you can tell they were strugling to tell something that was less introductory, hence the more simple story and treat. Once the introductions are done, they could finally go ahead and do some good ol' peak X-Men stories, as shown by the excellent X2.
Toy Biz went the cheap route with the sculps because they had awful figures back in the late 80s and early 90s but got really good at it when X-Men tas and the other cartoons came up, so its not that they couldnt do it, they just went fast and cheap with the movie line.
There's a 4th 20th Anniversary figure (and it's not any of the deadpool figures). It was an Amazon exclusive wolverine in his wife beater under shirt. He came with both metal and bone claws. The head sculpts were more movie accurate with the hair styles (jacket wolverine has hair more akin to origins). We recently got a rerelease, but the head sculpts were from jacket wolverine
25:01 I am still wondering who has the idea to put a McKellen head with a Fassbender figure, McKellen deserves his own figure, feels so weird the body with old Magneto head.
Appropriate timing as I actually ran into a Magneto from this line at a local comic store recently Didn't pick him up but it was fun seeing him pre-likeness to Ian McKellen
I definitely plan to cover X2 in the future!! As for Hulk 2003, there's already a amazing video by Cellureel Entertainment covering everything I would've (I also only have 1 hulk). Ghost Rider would be pretty interesting, since I think that was all Hasbro stuff.
@@flapumaTV yeah ghost rider was hasbro but all the figures were designed by toybiz right before bankruptcy and then subsequently released and possibly slightly retooled by hasbro But yeah I’m saying please keep up these toyline retrospectives they are amazing
15:01 lol I had that Sabertooth as a kid. When playing with my friend, my friend had Wolverine stab Sabertooth through the rubbery face, and … unfortunately permanently wrecked his face. Came across this figure again a few years ago when helping family members move. The feature still works but the face looks cursed, and Logan’s face was chewed through by mice. Your figures are in excellent condition in comparison lol
I’m subscribing because you apologized for possibly sounding cynical when you were actually pretty fair and spot on with your review of these old xmen toy biz figures. There are definitely plenty of people on here that are too quick to be like “these are the worst things ever made” and you at least made an attempt to review them with some degree of respect for the time they were released in.
Early MCU figures would be very interesting, I definitely would want to tackle more "modern-ish" films (even though Iron Man is like 15 years ago 💀). Spider-Criminal has got a great video about the Ghost Rider movie figures and covers more than I could (I've only got like 1 figure). As for Superman Returns, I definitely want to look at DC movie figures at some point, but I only have McFarlane ones atm.
ok I'm subbing now, love the content on these old movies, keep up the great work on vids with figures based on movies, could you perhaps do the new Sonic movie figures there's interesting stuff going on now with the leaks of the third movie figures
There was a lot of Marvel movies before Howard the Duck. The Captain America 1943 serial, those Hulk TV movies, that 60’s Doctor Strange movie, and some movies after Howard like Captain America 1979, Punisher 1989, Captain America 1990, Fantastic Four (unreleased), Generation X 1996, and Nick Fury: agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. There’s probably more and im just forgetting but yea
These figures are as weird as I remember. While I loved the movie, this toy line didn't really catch my attention as I thought it was made for adult collectors. The figures looked a litle bit too bizarre for my taste, like the Cyclops that comes with Jean trapped in goo, or the Mystique with the Wolverine "suit" (which now that I see it in detail, it's super hilarious). While unlikely, I hope that Hasbro will eventually make one last FoX-Men wave with updated versions of the big four (Cyclops, Jean, Storm and Wolverine) in their black costumes.
Loved this! Earned a sub lol Honestly would love more of these if you can make them (saw you had a FF retrospective as well, I'll be sure to go check it out) I have the X-Jet from this line (or maybe the second movie release, I'm not sure), it's huge. Found it on eBay a few years back second hand but in decent condition, it's obviously undersized and the proportions look wonky to accomodate 6 inch figures but it actually works really well with 4 inch (or 3 3/4, more accurately) figures that Hasbro made in the late 2000s/2010s
Uh there was some X-2 X-men United figures by toybiz? they did make some merchandise for that particular movie. they had Wolverine, nightcrawler, magneto and iceman. they also had the 13 inch tall figures for Wolverine and nightcrawler as well.
There is also a hot toys release for the Wolverine I think if memory serves correct it was based on the 3rd film but it's still cool that hot toys even gave it a shot
16:32 wolverine had the same mouth opening gimmick, is just that with the years it seems to have melted… Mine did some years ago… and his face ripped off :(
You've done it! I LOVE that new figure of Wolverine on his jacket. Unfortunately it's likely super scalped & costy now online. I own the new Wolverine figure with his white tank top, but it was a spend of $35. Yup! Worth it? I love him so yes!🥰🤣🤣
Hasbro while making figures for the phase 1 especially for Iron man 2 and onward made the 6 inch scale figures exclusive to Wal-Mart which made super expensive complete
The X-Men suit Rogue reuses a body sculpt from an earlier Rogue figure. It was based off of a Shiar space suit she wore for a short time around Uncanny X-Men 350 and came with a giant cannon.
Your Wolverine and sabertooth play features are broken, that’s not how they are supposed to look. The play features made them look like they were yelling which looked good on mine. You kinda missed a lot of details as well
I owned the same Wolverine figure actually, it looks better in person even though the stoic face isn't completely there in the likeness which is funny because despite what he stated in the video, the angry face looks like Hugh Jackman exactly. Great articulation too which surprised me. Although, I am more of an import guy.
