I always felt like “Thanos was right” was just a cheap knock off from the age old Magneto-Xavier debate allegory for war vs coexistence when dealing with oppression. Happy to see 97 gave “Magneto was Right” it’s true respect it deserves.

"Thanos was Right" is plain stupid. Throwing civilizations into turmoil by committing mass murder for a temporary reduction in population is suggests a childish view of how life forms procreate and live. Magneto's lived experience shows that some humans will always be willing to murder a scapegoat in order to stay on top. I like how he's written to struggle so hard to see things with a more optimistic perspective, but is painfully wrenched back to his original perspective that humans can't be trusted. It's also heartbreaking.

I always saw Xavier’s “death” as the X-Men being uncertain if he actually survived or would physically be able to be removed from whatever alien tech or meds saved him. So they just settled on treating it like a death. Even in the last episode of Season 5 he basically says he will be with them “in spirit.”

The Sentinel slamming Morph in Juggernaut form goes back to understanding that his transformations gaining physical powers are not necessarily anywhere near the level of some of the top-of-the-top originals. Sure he can be durable enough to repel conventional firearms by armoring up like Colossus, but he'll barely have a fraction of Juggernaut's might or Quicksilver’s speed.

Of course, Magneto was right. Ever since the X-Men came to be, he was right. Mutants have been treated horrifically by some humans. So much so that some racist humans use nazi methods to eradicate mutants. Magneto was never a true villain. He is a character who people can empathise with. Especially considering his early years in surviving the holocaust. As for X-Men 97, people are seeing exactly why Magneto does what did. After countless mutant deaths at the hands of basically nazis, Magneto would've been resentful towards humans.

The mother turns into sentinel was not about subverting expectations, rather it was the long drawn out inevitable. This show is so well written. It’s character first then plot. I love the subtle clues techno organic virus, machine man, nimrod etc. it’s Hickman-esq. My money is on phalanx soon

This Earth has had multiple invasions and the Avengers have had public affiliations with different aliens. Not to mention the Fantastic Four who probably made documentaries about alien life and culture. The X-Men are part of the whole 90s Marvel cartoon universe. Spider-Man even had the FF, Avengers, and X-Men Secret Wars style crossover towards the end.

I don't think it will be a total splintering. Worse comes to worse, and if they really are citing Fatal Attraction, you'll get one defection, and maybe a few just leaving everything behind. My guesses? Beast goes over to Max's side, because he's being showing all the signs of losing faith in Charles' dream, and since Colossus isn't here, he's my best guest for doing a short-lived stint with Mags in his stead (especially if Prof X mindwipes him). Meanwhile, if Logan loses his adamantium, he may leave for a while, too. Ditto Rogue, because she needs more time to grieve Remy. Or at least until Pooky brings him back as Death...

Silver Samurai isn't really a random cameo, since it's showing that the impact of Bastion's plan is in Japan. Just like Spider-Man shows New York City and Omega Red shows Russia.

Pretty sure it was Nimrod as it showed Nimrods image once the “goo” went into his ear. Given when Bastion would’ve been conceived and his age now I wouldn’t be surprised if they are linking the origin to the One Man’s Worth 2 parter and saying it was from the Nimrod that was destroyed.

@@quantgeekery6358 ALL of humanity was complicit in it, yes. They allowed Trask and Guyrick to do their thing, directly causing the deaths. They allowed others to declare war for them. They could have come out immediately in support of the mutants and banded together to stop Bastian and the others, too, but they didn't. Instead, they signed up willingly en masse to become cyborg sentinels. The damage caused by Magneto returning fire is on them.

Bastion's new origin of being decended from machines and a next evolution to where he was "born" as Jean Gray said is kind of like Brainiac in the DCAU, where he was a fully synthetic machine, but then in the episode where Supergirl stays in the future and meets Brainiac 5 and Brainiac 5 stated that Brainiac was then able to pass his "programming" or whatever down organically. Or maybe I am looking too deep into it. Tell me what you all think.

I really hope you're right about that toy robot being a reference to Machine Man. Because if it is, and the rumors are true about X-Men 97 being cannon to the marvel universe, we're only missing one more piece (and probably not really) before marvel can finally adapt THE comic book. Wandavision introduced Monica Rambeau That weird black and white Jack Russel thing introduced Bloodstone X-Men 92 introduced Boom Boom in that weird Purple Man episode X-Men 97 has now kinda sorta backhandedly introduced Aaron Stack, the Machine Man In other words, if they actually show the real Machine Man and then the X-Men cartoon is imported into the Marvel Universe, we are finally on deck for a Nextwave: Agents of HATE movie. The best comic book is finally coming boys. We did it.

I think it's understandable that the team would assume Xavier died because he never reached out to them. They probably figured if he was healed he would come back but he didn't. They just thought it was too late for the Shiar to save him.

When Professor Xavier left with Llandra for a cure, there still was a possibility that he might die. Plus, with the XMEN not knowing what happened afterwards for almost a year, they must have had doubts. So they weren't faking their concerns for his possible death IMO.

But he didn't because he was enjoying being with his girl and was considering not returning.

The final lesson of this series will be that Magneto wasn't right. Exterminating all humans is still the wrong answer. Even though exterminating all mutants is also wrong. Its fun seeing everyone jump onto the Magneto was right bandwagon though at this midway point. I'm keeping a list to see their reaction later.

While I do sympathetiz and Understand Magneto i don't fully agree with him enough to say He's right. When you fight fire with fire you just create more fire and everyone gets burner. Magneto is inciding more anger and hatred on both sides which will lead to a war where both species would die. Charles Xavier's vision might be hard to achieve but it's not impossible. And to call his dream misguided or just niave is just very niahlistic ,pasamistic and disrespectful to the character. We've seen enough heroes going dark and going bad and im tired of it. We need less angsty anti heroes like punisher and more optimistic and altruistic heroes like Superman. To remind us the importance of hope which is what the X men represent hope of a future where human and mutants can live in peace.

And to know it's worldwide with no communication. It could have been a statewide EMP, or a north American emp. Just a big reach to just immediately assume it's worldwide and that it's Magneto. (Polaris?)

I really think that since Xavier was gone for so long, with zero contact with his students, they just assumed he was dead. Hopefully they say something about it next episode. It makes sense, because why else would he not reach out if he could, and we saw why he didn’t 🍑👀

Since you talked about combining stories and sometimes improving on stories from the comics. What if the Worldwide EMP was the event that pushed the X-Men to take down Magneto? Fatal Attractions storyline. I mean, Prof X did say in the Shi'ar that coexistance was hard. So he still believed in it. So even if Magneto was right, he would still want to avoid a war with non-mutants. Plus, about improving on stories, what if Wolverine almost dying because of his Adamantium being ripped out, triggers a secendary mutation which also alows him to have the regenerative healing factor?

blerd its was insanely quick but there was a moment after the xavier broadcast that you hear jubilee defend something against sunspots mom say" we were trying to keep you people from coming after the professor " . i think this was supposed to be the explanation of why they were pretending, which again doesn't make sense because of how the team acted to each other. like why was morph pretending to be xavier in poor taste if xavier is a space king.
