I’ve never understood why they pushed to make magneto a silver fox ladies man in the comics. Any way you spin it, he’s an OLD man. It’s not like Logan, where he’s at least stopped aging physically at middle age. Sure that’s going to always be addressed, but on the surface, it looks LESS creepy

Rogue & Magneto had a romantic relationship during the Age of Apocalypse that happened after Xavier’s son David aka Legion goes back in time to kill Magneto & accidentally kills Xavier. It made sense in that alternative reality because Rogue seemed far closer in age to Magneto.

This is one of those case scenarios I always say “just because it happens in the comics does not mean it’s good at all.” This is one of those instances. Whoever wrote the Rogue and Magneto shit was not cooking.

On the plus side, the chances of Batwoman showing up in the show are pretty small....

Magneto can't even sarcastically state Professor Xs position without throwing up and after fighting him for 5 seasons, the X Men still can't quite figure him out yet. Better than anything Marvel has done so far but what is that really saying at this point

I'm suspicious about Magneto too, and more now that you mentioned all those details (because I just saw clips, not full episodes yet because I'm tired of Disney slaping our faces after giving us good premieres). So, Magneto's heroics acts, Storm's sacrifice, Rogue's "romance" he is definitely manipulating everyone around him and used Storm as a pawn. So yeah, I don't believe he is a good guy at all, he is definitely planning something and he is not wasting time on moving the pieces.

I loved the first two episodes but yeah Rogue being on a first name basis with Magneto is just not in line with the series cause they never had any hints of a past relationship. In fact I rewatched the show recently and she reacts like she’s new to him and his powers when he shows up. Not like a girl who’s familiar with him (the 90s cartoon wasn’t unfamiliar to retconning ideas like how they mused that Beast was blue furred from a young age only to show that he looked normal, save for big hands and feet, into his young adulthood). That and the old show had Magnus as his implied first name (it’s what Charles calls him anyway). Magneto being referred to as “Erik” and him being Rogue’s love interest is purely because it’s from the comics not because it makes sense for the show. It would’ve at least felt less like a fanfic addition if they didn’t bring the name Erik into things. That being said I do think the 90s X-Men writers were playing Magneto as the victim of a holocaust in a non-specific war and nation because the 90s BSnP limited them from saying words to really ground those facts into the narrative. So technically he might not be as absurdly elderly compared to Rogue. I can’t say that this is a deal breaker. I especially hope that this romantic tribulation will bring Rogue and Gambit closer together since we’ve seen an ex-lover do that already with Belladonna when Gambit showed that his affections for Rogue were stronger than his past with her.

I knew they were going to do Madelyn Pryor aka Goblin Queen story. Bc hasbro made an action figure based off this series. I believe you. I'm just surprised nowadays they're actually showing men being competent smart and strong. Hopefully it stays that way. They're retconning the original series with Madelyn being Cables mother. I know that's what happened in the comics. In the series however cable when he's an adult still believes that Jean Grey is his mom.

So correct me if I am wrong but Rogues timeline to my mind went 1) powers show up 2) joins mystique 3) absorbs Miss Marvel powers and goes mad 4) Xavier helps her with the fallout of that 5) Rogue joins the x-men. There is no space for this to happen in. Not unless it is when Rogue was with mystique and clearly presented as very young and naive. Which is not a good look. Buuuuuuut, Rogue having an interest in the past in the charismatic, powerful man who is uniquely able to touch her…… it is believable as a reason for her to be willing. Again there is no slot in the timeline for it, but I could believe it as possible - and of course a bad thing in universe

X-men needs to get out of the 60s. Where's the hordes of activists propping up mutants like gods? Where's the mutant flags painted on the streets? Where's the checkbox mutant in every TV show?

They are doing everything in their power to dismiss the Rouge Gambit romance hahahaah

Just hearing about the Magneto/Rogue thing is giving me flashbacks to the Batman/Batgirl shipping in The Killing Joke movie. Except this time it's even worse because Magneto is a VILLAIN. And even though it's a kid's cartoon that I haven't properly watched in ages, I'm pretty sure he's killed people. Like, probably a lot of people. So one of the heroes being romantically involved with him is at best nonsensical or worse, a tacit endorsement of his horrible actions as a villain.

Given woke it will be Gambit and Magneto hooking up.

I'm pretty sure the Rogue/ Magneto thing happens in the Age of Apocalypse story arc in the comics.. it was creepy then too..

The Rogue and Magneto romance absolutely does not fit but then you realize its Disney and they screw up everything even the good stuff.

Rogue and Magneto being a thing is disgusting. Weren't Mystique and Magneto together at one point in the comics? She is also Rogue's adoptive mom right? Jesus 😂. I'm laughing but it's really not funny at all, and it's kind of on brand for Disney to dive into the Rogue and Magneto nonsense instead of ignoring it. They of all companies would be happy to attempt to legitimize something so disgusting.

The X-men took the Steven Universe method of dealing with megalomaniacal maniacs by letting Magneto go free because he kind of did something good. This will be a train-wreck in a few episodes.

100% believing that Magneto is manipulating everything to work in his favor and the X-Men are being entirely too trusting of him, making them look like idiots. Here's hoping that the ridiculous Magneto/Rogue/Gambit triangle ends the same way it had in the comics - with Gambit and Magneto getting into a intense fight and Rogue getting so fed up with them that she dumps them both.

Didn't Scott Lobdell de-age Magneto in the 90's comics in order to make the Rouge-Gambit-Magneto love triangle seem less weird? Maybe that's the direction the writers will eventually take: create a barrier for the characters and audience (age difference), then resolve that tension (de-age Magneto) in order to maximize the effect of another tension (the love triangle)? Now THAT kind of convoluted mess WOULD be a faithful adaption of the X-Men comics. Oh, and oddly enough, I think The X-Cutioner and "The X-Cutioner's Song" are two different things that happened in X-Men comics at the same time. The character never actually appeared in the event that shared his namesake, though he did first appear in a story a year later that loosely dealt with the aftermath of the epilogue to that crossover. Go figure.

Crossroads was a great story and dealt with Magneto’s duality as a character and their shared backstory as ex terrorists turned heroes.(Magneto had been Rogue’s teammate on the X-men for two years) Magneto is terrified of turning back to his old ways and Rogue believes in someone she sees as a friend and comrade. Add in the fact that Rogue’s powers were temporarily deactivated and could touch someone for the first time while Magneto is in emotional turmoil …yeah. It doesn’t work here but it did there. It is worth noting Magneto was biologically in his 20’s and nobody gives Logan this kind of guff over dating younger women. Also Rogue was 20 at the time (Kitty Pryde had gone from 14 to 16 during that period and Rogue joined the X-men at 18). PS After the Trial of Magneto in the comics Magneto was a full fledged hero andX-man until the team apparently died in Texas during Fall of Mutants.

Gonna say it here as I have said in other comment sections about this topic: The show runner before he got canned by old Bobby iger wanted to make x-men97 into the next “Velma” for Disney+ but even more ridiculous than what WB did. Bobby wasn’t having it and tossed him out the door. Beautiful mayonnaise (beau demayo) managed to get two seasons in before the ejection, but three seasons were greenlit. It is entirely unknown how the typical Disney “bait and switch” will happen, but I get the impression that it will happen. Question is “when”

Personally, I didn't find the Wolverine joke about Apocalypse funny at all. It was predictable, and it made no sense, considering Wolverine can smell enemies nearby. The show was full of nonsenical things like that for the sake it being cool or funny. The typical Disney vehicle. I completely agree with you on the rest of the stuff you said.
