How to make villains scary? Make them logically effective

This is one of the few times the villains are better in the movie than in the comics. In the comics, the Sentinels were cannon fodder and rather easily destroyed. But here they are nightmare fuel.

They don't say a word, and they were the scariest villains in the X-Men movies.

The Sentinels are perhaps the most impressive enemy robots I have ever seen in movies. Certainly more threatening by far than the Ultron bots or Terminators. Every action they take is performed with such an economy of movement, with no wasted energy. Really succeeds in giving the impression that they are perfected killing machines.

They did such an amazing job displaying the Sentinel’s devastation and aura. You can feel the disparity of the X-Men from the start to their gradual elimination.

Something i didnt realize, the sentinels are *prioritizing*. They ignore some mutants for a time being so they can get the most powerful ones in the vicinity. These things arent just slaughtering people, their neutralizing threats.

There's such a sense of dread when the sentinels are present. The soundtrack captures that ominous feeling perfectly. Even their ships are in the shape of a coffin. It's a very clever way to set the scene.

I love how they're giving it their all. Especially Sunspot when he screams as he's trying his hardest . Gives me chills

Sometimes I watch this scene just because of the chills it gives me, the way the sentinels silently stalk the heroes and then go god mode and tear them to shreds. Epic

First time I notice that Sentinel ripping the arm off of colossus and that it's punch actually crushed his head, you can see the relief of it's hand on Colossus' head after. Awesome and absolutely brutal

Damn…imagine if they made Ultron this menacing.

Dude these scene were and still are bone chilling. Brutal, scary, badass. What a movie.

Those sentinels are way too OP especially that power to adapt to their power, and the fact there are thousands of them like that is the maker of nightmares

This part honestly terrified me when I watched it the first time. And now actually. I can see and feel the despair and the this-is-our-last-stand attitude that they all have knowing they are trying desperately to delay the inevitable.

This is by far the best of the X-Men movies. As good as the top MCU movies.

One of the movies that properly displayed mutant powers

This is one of the few moments in all the movies where I really felt like the X-men had to work together in a comparable way to the source material. And it's the best scene in the movie franchise. I think they gave the sentinels the Mystique treatment too soon. Could have had some really great team building moments in other movies leading up to this.

2:18 The pure terror in Colossus' eyes is what every mutant would feel if these Sentinels were coming for them and copying their powers.

I love how either way Fire and Ice can both win and beat each other

So Future Sentinels are made based on DNA or the power of: - Rogue (Can absorb and keep power,But not making weak when touch the Sentinel) - Darwin (Can adapt any situation) - Mystique (Shapeshifting)

The best X-Men movie by far.

I showed my friend this film with no context of what to expect. He knew the Xmen characters but didn't keep up with the films. It was a treat to watch his shock for the first time with him, he couldn't believe it. Understandable. He enjoyed his first watch and i enjoyed my rewatch.

Damn seeing Iceman utilizing his powers to their full potential was amazing.

Imagine how the MCU Avengers would handle all these Sentinels that can adopt to any power or weapon, interesting fight/battle!

I recently got the rogue cut and it’s unbelievable how the sentinels in the movie took aspects from different generations and models of sentinels and made them nightmarish

This movie was so excellent. Makes you wonder how on earth Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix turned out so awful.

This is one best openings of a comic movie ever. Within minutes you understood the threat and understood the level of what they could do. Without much dialogue.

They don't talk, hesitate or try to capture you. They just kill you and throw your corpse like a piece of trash, damn

Sentinels in this movie are very scary.

Days of Future Past should have been a two parter. Part One is in the future and explains Rogue being involved, how Kitty gets the secondary mutation.

I remember when I first saw this movie and I was terrified (but also amazed) by these Sentinels. They are ruthless and relentless + also adaptive. 😱

I've always wondered why that one sentinel was able to stab Blink. She seems to make portals that "one directional" like the first one she made yet that one portal seemed to end at the same side no matter what side you entered from. I also just realized Blink could have sent Kitty to that safe from the beginning but that's just for the plot I guess

Among all of their deaths I think Colossus' was the one that terrified me the most, arm ripped off and head caved in just...DAMN! Captures perfectly how much of a threat these sentinels are, has to be one of the most thrilling and terrifying intros to a superhero movie made.

Why don't Blink open a portal under Sentinels and drop them in a Lava Mountain ? or better when they're about to fall she shut the portal and cut them in half over and over again.

This movie is one of the best comicbooks movies of all times , for me it is in the Top 3.

Went into the movie theater without knowing much abt the Sentinels & was genuinely terrified by the way they overpowered the mutants. I mean, from the previous movies u could predict that mutants being all powerful could overcome any kind of threat. But, this movie shattered the myth in the very beginning & made me genuinely worry abt the Mutants & how the movie completely hooks you in. Probably, the best movie of the X-men series after Logan.

These sentinels are all mini nimrods, they can copy powers , and shape shift like nimrods but they cant heal like nimrod can. This is made up for that there are armies of these sentinels.

If mutants like quicksilver sebastian shaw jean grey juggernaut were here the sentinels would be in trouble because they can only adapt mutations related to their body surface they can't adapt fast reflexes for example to see quicksilver moving while the wings of an insect are stopped he's away faster than any one of them and faster also than their rays they will be frozen in their places while he's moving very rapidly laughing makes them destroying each others Sebastian shaw also hard to be defeated by sentinels he will be able to absorb punches kicks stabbing injuries plasma energy from multiple sentinels getting stronger with each hit once he gets enough energy he will destroy them or absorbing full nuclear reactor energy previously then any sentinel will try to kill him after that will be dead if we assumed he's more experienced in the future without limitations of absorbing kinetic energy of course they can use pure strength to chock him but this is much easier to say than do it after absorbing so much energy he has super strength one hit from him enough to destroy building from multiple floors when he's recharged enough without telepathy they can't harm him he's unstoppable Jean can evaporate them all at the same time they can't penetrante her telekinetic force field none of their powers can do this Juggernaut can't be affected by any of their beams heat plasma energy stronger than colossus larger he will smash them although his powers are magical not based on mutations but still considered with mutants team And writers forgot that magneto can create so durable magnatic force field no sentinel can reach him while he's inside of it

I don't understand the physics of these robots. The mechanic they copy superpowers and emulate them in their robotic body with chips, components batteries and stuff. Its just magic stuff going on here. Not even nanomachines from MGS can do that, son.

You know, it just dawned on me. I always wondered why Nimrod wasn't in this movie. But then it clicked, the Sentinels here ARE Nimrod. It's an army of them, think about it, the Sentinels pretty much have the same feats as Nimrod. No wonder they X-Men always had to travel theough time to beat them.

I saw this movie when I was 13. These sentinels haunted my dreams. Fucking terrifying. Horror movies have nothing on the future sentinels.

These are the closest thing to the Sentinel Nimrod that came back from the future. It was original X-Men comics like #180 or so. He could adapt as well. It took Rogue absorbing all the X-Men’s powers to defeat him.

The X Men trained to fight the sentinels too, krazy how they changed so much and became straight up monsters and murderers... This scene along with when Jean Grey voids Professor X out of existence are two of the most scariest scenes ever...

From all MCU and DC, I never seen somethin truly terrifying like Sentinels from X-MEN. It was rare occasion when it comes about new movies that somethin can be truly terrifying. Im old school who loves terrifying scenes from ScFi like terminator 1 & 2 from future, alien etc..., Sentinels were the only one from newer movies who truly gave me... well... shivers. Not any Darkseid, Thanos, Galactus or whatever. So in that regard this movie was somethin truly special. Just terrifying. Cheers....

Besides their designs, Sentinels were so well done. Warner Bros needs to learn from Fox/Disney/Marvel how to make tense villain moments. Doomsday, Zod and Darkseid just never felt like they had any impact or hopelessness in their showdowns.

You know, now that the X-Men are being incorporated into The MCU (Which in itself now has infinite branching timelines), it would be fun (if terrifying) to see a timeline where, say, Ultron combined Sentinel Tech with his own. Or at least see how The Avengers hold up against these.

I still remember when I saw this movie as a teenager, firstly seeing the sentinels being beat up and thinking "Yeah again dumb robots suck". Then soon enough being shocked by how easily every mutants were defeated.

Jean with phoenix force would have destroyed them easily because phoenix is one of the most powerful entity of the universe.

3:50 no offence to Warpath in this scene but that is the most stupid death ever. He just stands there waiting for them to shoot him and when they shoot he jumps right into the blast. How dumb is he?

I didn’t get it. So sentinels learn and adapt your abilities? So….. that one guy just could freeze everyone but that fire guy didn’t have to use his abilities so the sentinels could copy.

I always thought it would be more logical if these sentinels took the genes from Darwin, the adapting mutant, instead of Mystique

I found it interesting how the Sentinels were very efficient in neutralizing the X-Men. Straight for their heads = instant kill, rather than going for other parts of their bodies.

Man its hard to believe this came out in 2014. Dam time flies.

Out of context, this makes it look like Ellen Page is telling her dead teammates they were too late to save her as she's about to die.

The Sentinel Nimrods seem as the most advanced robots amongst all other robots and machines from other movies and shows. Including Skynet's machine terminators.

I can’t believe this movie is ten years old. Just as amazing as I remembered it, probably the best X-Men movie along with Logan and one of the best superhero movies, period! I like how the Sentinels have basically evolved to the point where they can adapt to and defeat ANY mutant. Very threatening in this.

i just realized the whole purpose of the mutants was to save two mutants ......Most important Ketty if she died mutant extinction is inevitable and one other mutant to who ketty can use ......every other mutant is a decoy and is doomed to die so another future can be created
