The end of this movie hits me really, really hard. Professor X is much more a master of his emotions than I was. That moment when you first realize that you can't use your legs is, in my experience, absolutely terrifying. He is clearly upset and scared, but he handles it really well. I was a lot younger than him, but I absolutely freaked out. They had to sedate me so that I wouldn't inadvertently hurt myself even worse. I always had a special appreciation for Charles. A superhero in a wheelchair was an important bit of representation to me as a fan of superhero movies.

In the comics banshees daughter was siren who made a cameo in x2. When the soldiers were going through the house siren used her sonic scream to wake up everyone in the house giving the students a chance to escape

Havok in the comics is actually Scott's younger brother and like his brother he can shoot energy beams too but he shoots them out of his wrists instead of his eyes they changed things in this movie. Also in the comics Beast did look normal to start off his hairy blue form came later as his mutation progressed.

This one began life as a Magneto Origins film but after Wolverine Origins tanked they retooled things a bit & made an origin story for the whole team with some extra emphasis on Magneto.

Any concept can work fine with the write actor, director and writer. I mean who would have a thought a whole Joker movie without even seeing Batman in it would work, most studios would reject that concept outright.

They used the names Joker, Wayne family, Arkham Asylum to get the studio and general audiences to watch a movie about mental health. Taxi Driver and King of Comedy are the inspiration for that movie, not anything from DC comics.

Their father is Christopher Summers, he is now called Corsair, Captain of the Star Jammers. They are Space Pirates. He and his wife got abducted by aliens called the Shiar, the Emperor D’Ken. When Alex and Scott were children, they were forced to parachute out of a plane when their parents were abducted. Scott suffered a concussion and that is why he can’t control his optic blasts.

Don't worry about calling Scott by the wrong name. The Hulk is now known as Robert Bruce Banner, because Stan spent an entire issue calling him Bob Banner despite his name being Bruce. I'd say you're in good company.

There was also the early issue of Spider-Man where he was, I believe for one panel, "Peter Palmer." Sir Arthur Conan Doyle had a little trouble with Dr. Watson's first name, too.

Magneto is by far the most intriguing villain. What drives a villain, their motivation and why is what makes a good villain. Ultimately Magneto sees mutants as the final stage of human evolution. Professor X strives for coexistence with humans despite their fear and hatred of mutants while Magneto knows all too well what humans are capable of. My favorite line of Magneto from the 90s tv series; Make peace with the humans Charles? They can’t even make peace with themselves. Truer words were never spoken, even to this day.

That’s why I’ve always been on the fence about X-Men and the other Fox properties going to the MCU. Fox have often given us a more realistic take on the world, and normal people’s reaction to people with powers. They hate people with powers and superheroes, but in the MCU they love them (at least in terms of the movies.) so I don’t know know how they’ll do it, especially when mutants have often been stand-ins for the disenfranchised.

But Erik isn't right either. Mutants are every bit, if not more, capable of what humans can do. Getting rid of humans won't solve anything. It's just more genocide. There will always be another war, be it between mutants or something else.

@@Kayoss13212 In the MCU, there is some divide. If people with powers were uncritically loved, things like the Sokovia Accords (signed by over 100 countries) wouldn't have happened. It also doesn't mean that something can't happen to change how those with powers are perceived.

I love this movie. This is probably my second favorite movie from the franchise (you’ll get to my favorite soon 🙂). James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are absolutely fantastic as young Professor X and Magneto. They are just as good as their older counterparts if not possibly better. Kevin Bacon was also fantastic as the villain. He’s often overlooked as comic book movie villains go but he might be my favorite villain from all of the X-Men movies. I can’t wait for you to continue this series.

When you are going to watch the next one Days Of Future Past , try and find the longer version that's called " The Rogue Cut " it really is a better movie, if not then you will just have to watch the Theatrical cut of the movie. In the comics, the loss of Professor X's legs was caused by an obscure villain named General Lucifer. It is usually made to be Magneto in adaptations, which works much better--even more than "streamlining" the mythology, it adds a layer to their dynamic. Lately, people have begun to resent Charles for "respectability politics" but if the man can be so even tempered, even open-handed, with the one who took away the use of his legs then he can be forgiving with humanity at large. Every conversation they have, they know that card is there, so voices aren't raised, and arguments have to be at their most objective and utilitarian.

They did Darwin so dirty in this movie. His power is literally to adapt so he can survive ANYTHING so he should have survived Shaw. Dude could even adapt to survive in space without man-made protection! That being said, this is easily one of the best X-Men movies IMO, so well written, so well shot, a fantastic cast...I'd like to see Marvel bring back as many of the X-Men from this as they can when they debut in the MCU, but especially Lucas Till as Havok and (somehow) Edi Gathegi as Darwin.

Yes, Alex Summers is Scott's older brother, and his codename is Havok, able to create powerful plasma blasts but has difficulty controlling them. Scott's power is similar due to their relationship. Azazel is Nightcrawler's father, which is where Nightcrawler gets the teleporting, and Mystique is his mom, hence the blue skin :P I always loved Banshee as a kid, I thought that was such a cool superpower to create hypersonic screams

In the comics the summers family is the most complicated in the entire universe, his dad is a space pirate he has a 3rd brother named Gabriel and he's superman level powerful, cable is his son sent to the future to get a cure to virus that causes that metal half body, cables daughter is the mutant messiah, and cables mom is a clone of Jean grey, and Scot is actually older than Alex. Scott and Jean have a daughter from an alternative future that has been erased from the timeline but Rachel is still in the current time line.

One of my top 5, sold me on franchise reboots after X3 and Origins disappointed. Perfect casting for young Charles and Erik and everyone else does good work too, taking full advantage of a setting where civil rights activity was at an all-time high. And indeed, the costumes are much more true to the comics.

Great reaction, as always! This is easily one of the top 3 X-Men movies out there, and I just wanted to say, that casting two real life friends as Eric and Charles (Fassbender and McAvoy) really takes things up a notch, as they showcase a natural, instant connection. Not to mention the fact that both guys did an amazing job as individual actors.

The Emma Frost character was also in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, she was Kayla’s sister that they rescued from the facility with Scott and the other kids. She even turned into her diamond form during the escape. The continuity is crap in all the X-men movies so the timelines are all off, the Emma Frost in this film should probably not even be born yet. Also, Alex Summers (Havok) is Scott’s younger brother in the comics but Fox made him older in the films.

I just love it when we get to see Ollie! He's really a beautiful dog, and coming from a guy who rehabilitates abused and neglected dogs who will be euthanized unless I can help them through their trauma, I REALLY appreciate it when I see someone treating their dogs lovingly and appropriately, like YOU just did. I also can tell you're a good dog parent by the fact you have that fantastic pillow in the background with his wonderful smiley face, obviously specially made. I see a lot of broken dogs, so I LOVE it when I see that you're so good with yours, and that he is clearly healthy, happy and loved, the way ALL dogs should be!

This was my least anticipated of the X-men films when it came out because back then I wanted the actors from the original trilogy. Then by the time it ended I just wanted more young Magneto. Fassbender and McAvoy literally grab the torches from McKellan and Stewart and just run with it

Alex Summers is Scott's older brother in this... in the comics he's the younger brother. They explore this somewhat in the film X-Men: Apocalypse... though that movie is terrible. One other significant relationship that they don't really hint at at all (other than the fact that they look so similar): the parents of X-Man Nightcrawler (the blue teleporter from X2) are Mystique and Azazel.... at some point between X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past I assume those two hook up but Mystique abandons the child to some German monastery, probably thinking it best for the child given her current lifestyle of terrorism and living and on the run with Eric. They don't explore this at all in the films, just hint at it. There's that scene between Nightcrawler and Mystique in X2. And then in DoFP... pay attention when Mystique is looking through some photos of old teammates... she does get more emotional when she gets to the photo of Azazel.

"Steve" is close enough. I mean, in the comics, Stan Lee originally had his name as Slim Summers, but in a later issue he forgot and called him Scott. They made Slim his nickname to explain it. (Similar to how Bruce Banner became Robert Bruce Banner because in one issue Stan referred to him as Bob Banner.)

Stan did that a lot in one Spider-Man story doc Ock called him Superman. Stan said DCs lawyers were probably on vacation because they didn't sue.

You get more Wolverine in the First Class sequels. They are Fantastic too. Also, Erik has such a tragic story, you haven't even seen the he'll his story becomes. And, in a way, they redeem the Phoenix story arc.

Talk about perfect casting. Charles and Erik played perfectly by the leading men. My only issue was Hank, my all time favorite mutant, but didn’t think he was cast right

I'd argue the casting isn't wrong for Beast, the writing is. Nick Hoult could definitely fill the role, but the characterization the script gave him is just too bland to work.

I really don't understand the dislike and, in some extreme cases, hate some have had for this film. Especially from RU-vidrs or friends who I have very similar opinion as. I loved this reboot/restart/alternate take on X-Man. Throwing it back to the 60s was a great way to change things up. I loved Days of Future Past as well, and even Apocalypse (and to a lesser extent Dark Phoenix) have some nice qualities...even if the paces of those are a bit off (in my opinion). If plans go forward to reboot the franchise again, I just hope they use different Mutants. There are SO MANY to choose from and I wouldn't want to be frequently comparing one Wolverine to another and so on...

Cyclops's other mutant power is identity theft. Yes, this is absolutely one of the best. The character development and back story is legendary. For all of the amazing ones in this movie...My favorite scene is with Wolverine. Short and sweet.

I felt like other RU-vidrs who watch this movie fail to notice that Charles calls Erick, Hank, several times during the submarine in the air part. I feel like I'm one of the only people who noticed that when I saw it theaters.

This is the Best X-men Movie I have watched. Nothing against Hugh Jackman but this franchise what it should of been without Wolverine as the main. I wish they should of continue this version of X-men and Singer Version.

The franchise does hinge far too much on Wolverine. As much as I love the character they have, literally, an entire race of characters and I wanted to see so many of them.
