@@NearMintCondition Omar, from what I understand, there will be 3 trades collecting the rest of the material related to this adaptations: the Further Adventures, X-men 92 the adventure Continues and X-men 92 the House of XCII, is that right?
I remember taping “night of the sentinels” on VHS and watching it with my friends on Halloween that year. We had been collecting the “X men series 1” trading cards, and reading both uncanny and the Jim Lee/Claremont 1991 series, so the hype for an X men cartoon was real. Never got into these “X men adventures” comics, but have super fond memories of watching the cartoon.
Damn right bub being borned in 1989 whenever i open an X-title i always here the opening of this show in my head lol those are the voices i hear in my head whenever any of these characters speaks in comics , its great man ! Favorite show ever what a great era i grew up in !
Issue 1 of X-Men Adventures was the very first issue I read as a child along with other X-Men related material. Now seeing it in Omni form brings back memories I haven't read all of them because I never knew that this was a ongoing series since I read the first issue now I have a copy that I pre-order earlier last year and I can't wait to receive it. I love it already. I can't believe we have in omnibus form. Cory and David Gabriel and the gang are awesome for doing this. I can't wait to see what more they have in-store for collected editions line especially classics which are my favorite.
It's beautiful and nostalgic! But I really think that if contained the adaptations of the fourth and fifth series it would feel more like a complete product. (or devided in 2 volumes)
Definitely agree, I probably would have bought it if they did. It just seems weird to have S1-3 in omni format, then have 4, 5, & some other 92' comics in a thick trade.
Yep, these were it! These were my first X-Men comics and where my love/obsession for Marvel's merry mutants (and comics in general) truly started after loving the animated show. They were printed (or maybe reprinted) magazine size on thin paper and were called 'Amazing X-Men' if memory serves. The first half was these stories, the second half was what was going on in the actual comics, meaning Claremont and Lee. Such a magical and important time in my childhood! You unlocked a whole load of memories for me going through this book Omar! Thank you!😄 Despite saying all that, my omnibus list is sooo long already that i don't think i can add this to it. However anyone who does pick this up will be in for a good time!
@@McDuendis Yeah man. It sucks when you gotta let some things pass you by. But unfortunately money is finite and bills never stop, so we have to be selective and make some tough decisions.
When you said 'Mysterious Cities of Gold' my brain went to the theme song. Okay back to the X-Men. Did you just drop Pryde of the X-Men? I remember recording that on VHS to make sure I could watch it. Okay, back to this review. Nicely done. A must have Omnibus.
I am so hyped for my copy to arrive from Organic Priced Books that I have not started reading anything new just so I can jump in day one when it arrives! I hope, please please please, that DC makes one of these for Batman the animated series and Superman the animated series, then Marvel finishes off with Spider-Man the animated series (if they had a comic adaptation).
I read the death of Superman in 93 and got hook, but numbering was 198 in majority of comics (Mexico) and adventures of X-men was at #1 in 94 and that’s was the beginning for my obsession.
X-Men was the cartoon that got me into Marvel in general and X-Men Adventures was the comic that got me into Marvel Comics. I had no idea what an "X-Men" was, but my brother and some of his friends were eagerly anticipating the premiere of the show and he set out to record the first two episodes. Even with the multiple, multiple animation errors and missing effects that were later fixed for future broadcasts, it managed to make enough of an impression for me to pick up the comic. If memory serves me correctly, I asked my brother to borrow his VHS tape a few times and he told me he spotted the first issue at the local Waldenbooks or B. Dalton in the mall, which I picked up. And from that day forward, I became an X-Men fan. And ended up grabbing copies of each X-Men Adventures comic that came out. I cannot locate the first issue and a few of the Dark Phoenix issues, but otherwise all the remaining issues are still here (along with first two trade paperback collections), all beaten and battered around from endless reads. It will be nice to finally be able to retire them and pick up the omnibus, something I never could have imagined would become a thing even a few years ago. The only downside being that I pre-ordered the book early last year and likely won't receive my copy until mid March! Some fun stuff... Slave Island (the Cable and Genosha story) was actually just one single episode, though it was expanded into two issues for the comic. There was, however, a lead-in storyline the previous episode with Gambit, Storm and Jubilee going on vacation there to check things out. All three are captured in the final scene. At the end of the episode, they are supposed to return back to the mansion and find that it was destroyed (later revealed to be due to the Juggernaut), although the animation for that episode wasn't finished yet. So they quickly tacked on an ending of them all returning and the Blackbird descending into the hangar. This lead to them skipping over episode 8 entirely and going into the 2-part Apocalypse episodes (The Cure, Come the Apocalypse). When the show reran for the second run, the animation and original intended ending was restored. --I actually uploaded the original aired "alternate" ending to RU-vid 14 years ago, converted from VHS and the version that aired on DisneyXD in the mid-2000s. If anyone searches *X-Men The Animated Series' "Slave Island" Alternate Ending* they can find it... Mind you, the audio is very low quality, though you can also hear the difference between the original Storm voice actress and the re-dubbed lines from the actress they hired beginning season 2 onward. Oh, and that Apocalypse 2-parter was also extended in the comics to become a 3-issue story line. Thus, why the first "season" of the X-Men Adventures comic had 15 issues rather than 13 from the show. Other fun stuff... as the story from the early 90s goes, Morph was very loosely based on The Changling from issue 35 of the original X-Men series. The developers wanted to show up front the dramatic stakes of the series in the pilot episodes, so they sought out an obscure character to kill off. When the episode was submitted to Fox for approval, Broadcast Standards and Practices told them they could not kill off a character. The writers only managed to convince the BS&P to let them with the agreement that he would return, alive, in a future episode (something they never actually intended to do) and that his death would not appear on screen (the characters reflect on his passing, but we never see him being killed). In fact, the characters go out of their way to not explicitly state he died or was killed, only that he'll be avenged, that Xavier couldn't sense him and that it was a command decision to leave him behind. --However, Morph became so popular after his appearance in the first two episodes that the writers did bring him back in the second season for several episodes. Not only that, but they went back and actually showed the shots of him being "killed" by the Sentinels in the second episode of that season during a flashback, with Mr. Sinister finding his body to revive him. I forget where the story came from, but I want to say it may have been either an X-Men Adventures letter page or one of those Marvel Age X-Men Animated Series articles (which I'm a little surprised was not included in the omnibus!). Other final last fun stuff... John Hebert grew up about 15 minutes from where I live. He's still in the area makes appearances at local Comic-Cons here. By complete happenstance, I discovered that he was teaching weekly art classes to the daughter of one of my former co-workers last year. And on that note... maybe with the Adventures of the X-Men TPB and the X-Men '92 miniseries that have come out in years past, Marvel will one day consider combining them (with the Pizza Hut issues) into yet another omnibus. This omnibus was considered a crazy miracle to get made a year ago this time... so who really knows?
Really cool that this exists, and it's a nice design! I figured this one would be lost to time. The only thing I wish were different is that it included the 4 issue Pizza Hut miniseries because it came out around the same time and involved this X lineup.
Yet another person who appreciates the brilliancy of the Pizza Hut issues! 2 of the 4 standard issues from that Pizza Hut run were also drawn by Andrew Wildman and John Hebert. Would have fit in perfect with this book. Maybe one day if there is a successor collection...
@@newspooiechannel It really is a shame that those aren't collected anywhere and seem to be lost to tjme. I mean, how can people forget a story where the X-Men fight the friggin' internet by going inside of it?!?
I understand there was a comic book adaptation of Batman: The Animated Series called "The Batman Adventures". The first 24 isssues have been collected in 2 volumes of hardcover.
@@peterx1957 That’s right. I completely forgot about that. Having googled it I see it has one of the series writers doing the comic book. I’ll have to check this out! Thanks for reminding me about it.
@@mustandawood yeah I have Volume 1 of The Batman Adventures in a hardcover as part of the DC Comics - Legend Of Batman series through Eaglemoss. I have just bought volume 2 on eBay. Probably paid more than I wanted to for it. The price one pays for being a completist lol
The X-men animated series was my introduction to the X-men, but it wasn't until after watching the first movie in theaters that I decided to check out the local comic shop. I left with more Catwoman comics than X-men comics though because I had no clue where to start reading it.
I'm looking forward to reading through this when it shows up! Now we need a second volume collecting the various X-Men '92 comics from modern day, and any other animated adaptation issues that are left from the in-between period.
Thabks for the overview Omar. I'm planning to re-read GL by johns through rebirth ending before Morrison, the Hickman Marvel saga abd modern/annihilation marvel cosmic saga this year. Which order would be most complimentary for the re-read for the three sagas?
Man, I'm so obsessed with Reading Marvel Comics whether it's Amazing Spider-Man, Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Doctor Strange, Moon Knight, Blade, DareDevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Defenders, Guardians of the Galaxy, Alpha Flight, X-Factor, X-Force, Astonishing X-Men, New X-Men, Exiles, Incredible Hulk, and most importantly, the Ultimate Universe(Ultimate Spider-Man, The Ultimates, Ultimate X-Men, Ultimate Fantastic Four, and Ultimate Spider-Man: Miles Morales).
Wow, someone was up early to upload this around 8 AM! I'm still kind of undecided on this one, but as a fan of the cartoon, I'm likely gonna buy it, lol.
I really wanna get this book because the show was my introduction to X-Men ^^ But there are so many other books coming out at the same time which I know I'd read instantly, while this would probably stay on the unread shelf way too long x'D
Really cool. Andrew Wildman seems like the type of artist that I'd probably like, but not be the most popular. Seems to really know how to lay out a page.
Send me back through time! I truly enjoyed the cartoons! WHO CARES IF MY GRADES WERE AFFECTED, because Saturdays were my time. I preferred waking up early, eating breakfast and watching cartoons on Saturday, and this was the highlight! NOW, you can stream episodes whenever, but it wasn't the same back in the day. OUR version of a soap opera where we have to wait a week for the next episode! Thanks Omar, for a trip on memory lane. Still thinking about buying this omnibus! Your overview was great!!!!
If there is anything from X-men that i was used to and Actually enjoyed that was the animated series from the 90s absolutely loved it the comics not so much.
I have never read a single X-Men comic (I'm familiar through shows and movies) but I'm tempted on buying this to read and enjoy the art....plus its in the animated universe, so why not XD
I have a hodgepodge of these issues from when I was a kid, and seeing as how I just got done with rewatching the animated series, this would be a good book to pickup. But this only goes through season 3? That's too bad, man season 4 had some of the best episodes! So I guess they never did Beyond Good and Evil? That was one of the best ending arcs in the show and really where it should have ended. The phalanx covenant was baaaad, and everything after that felt like filler. Except the origin of Mr sinister. I thought that was interesting. I was wondering how close that episode is to the 616 origin?
_Sigh_ Another Omnibus that interests me, as I start building a collection 🙈 Currently waiting on the two double Omnibus for Hickman's Avengers & his Fantastic Four, as well as a preorder on the reprint of Brubaker's Captain America Winter Soldier. Comic book collectors need to be making casuals aware of how expensive this can get 😭 seriously though, absolute loving your content and starting my own journey
Wont be buying these because these are not my X-Men, but seeing Wildman in omnibus format has awoken a dream of having Marvel Transformers in omnibus format. volumes 1-3 should cover it, maybe fourth if we’re including UK stuff. Marvel, get the rights back please :)
I remember watch the cartoon on sky TV here in the uk and also remember picking up the comic. I stopped reading the comic and watching the TV series because it was adapting stories from the comics that I had read before. I passed on this omni based on my thoughts back in the 90's, but it good that marvel was willing to take a loom at hhe series and print it in this format. I hope people who wanted this will enjoy it, but it is a pass for me. Thanks for the overview as normal.
Hello!Your episode is admirable! Your show is very good, even though your Channel KEPT on forgetting to the answer to my few questions in the past few weeks. Thanks anyways ŕ
Is it just me or is there a weird black line under the Marvel logo on the spine? I'm sure it must be a design choice but it looks like an error, like their image file wasn't big enough or something.
@@daxota_6750 I mean it will still sell well enough no doubt but that X-Men run is not in current continuity which may not be a priority for some, Plus newer collectors may not have watched the 90s series so have no emotional connection to this run. To me it is more of a niche run for X-Men. I mean it may get more reprints but I don't just see Marvel prioritising it over say house if M or the Claremont omnis. Whereas that Avengers run is a fan favourite that literally changed the Marvel universe and has been printed in multiple formats already. I can see it being one of those runs that is kinda evergreen. Plus it is a darn good read.👍
Before we begin, I'd like to say I grew up with this cartoon. I loved it; I skipped church to watch. That being said, I tried watching it again last year on Disney+ and it doesn't hold up. Which is unfortunate. I know, sacrilege. And they're making more? I don't know. If this is a little more coherent than the cartoon, maybe I'll grab it but as of right now, I think I'll pass.
