Likely last to review the X Shot Longshot, I'm instead using the extended length of time I've had to use it to give a more detailed opinion on what I think of this high performing $30 blaster. #xshot #zuru #nerf
Doing different reviews compered to other nerf youtubers is always nice. I got one before Christmas. I knew about the flaws but I had to buy it anyway since it is the only "pro" performance blaster Europeans can get for cheap. I got the full power one but I would have bought it even if it was the lower power version. No sign of the problems others have encountered. Plunger tube still holding on, no stress marks on the pusher. Had a couple of short darts that got jammed and I believe it was the magazine's fault not aligning the darts properly. Have already sourced an alloy tube in case the plunger tube breaks. I don't need more power so no spring or barrel upgrade for now.
That's basically my experience with this one, it's seen thousands of shots fired with no sign of issues outside of the jams on full length darts. So, I can't really complain even though I'm highly aware of the issues others have had. That speaks to QC issues at production for X Shot.
X Shot needs to fix this going forward, but after having this Longshot for months and months of use, it's still going strong. So, in my personal usage I can't complain, but even factoring in the cost ($5-$13) of a replacement plunger tube the Longshot is in my opinion a worthwhile blaster. Dart Zone on the other hand really needs to fix the whole assortment of QC issues that every other blaster they release has had over the last year or more.
Happy New yr. Thanks for the long term review. Im prolly gonna pick one up soon. Just wanted to see if Xshot was gonna address the issues on the batches going out after the first run. Thank you again.
I heard something about them trying to address it, but nothing concrete. Still, the aftermarket plunger tubes are economical enough that I'd just grab one at the same time as buying the blaster. Still cheaper than the Dart Zone options for similar performance.
Nice review, good to see a longer use time review. My plunger tube cracked after less than 50 darts fired and I just wrapped the tube in duct tape and it's still going strong after a few games of use and hundreds of darts through it 😄 fingers crossed it holds but I'll probably upgrade to an alloy tube at some point.
I feel like we need more videos like this, that give us some real information about a blaster that we are interested in and that only comes with time. I usually wait to get the next hyped blaster because I mistaking keep thinking that blaster tag RU-vidrs will give us more useful information about them like, the advantages compared to other blasters, how they work, modding best practices and the pros and cons of the available options. This would allow us to enjoy the hobby more and in return we would provide support for the people who do this for us. As I think back to Drac and others hyping up the mod capabilities of the Maverick and marveling at the crazy power gains of the penny mod, I feel that I have been setup for failure and someone needs to be real with us. Maybe it's just me but all of my attempts at improving a Maverick have been met with frustration and disappointment as I have truly wasted my time, money, and efforts. I picked this blaster up while I was in Target shopping with my Wife because it was cheap and the box claimed to reach 140 feet which would make it better than both my Nexus Pro and Maxx Stryker, it didn't shoot any further when I tested it. I remember it was hitting a bit over 100 feet on average so nothing exciting and it jammed like crazy, one half-length got folded into the barrel and it was locked with the ratcheting mechanism so I couldn't slide the pusher back and open the breach to get it out. I had to stop shooting and look all over the house for a super long ram rod to put down the barrel because the ones I use were too short. The rear loading action was also awkward and the end of the magazines poked me in the stomach. Needless to say, I was not a fan of this thing and since it had a left handed magazine release feature (which is uncomfortable to use) and it was just collecting dust, I let my Son use it against me in a few Capture The Flag games- he shot me in the face, he popped up from cover and fired, I usually have time to move. He barely hits me with the Aeon Pro that he usually uses, so it gained a little more respect. I went online to find out more about it and I stumbled on the 300 FPS kit from Frontline Foam. I took to RU-vid looking for ways to harness this power and experience what 300 FPS feels like. I was really looking for details on modding it so I could do it right the first time and get the most out of it but feel comfortable with my upgrade choices, you know the usual. Didn't happen, Drac's "modding" videos don't have anything to offer but his own crap cosmetic kits. I watched a long video by a guy who was trying to figure the thing out in his video, only common sense stuff there and he skipped the important part where he installed the spring. Anyway I wish I saw a helpful long term review video for this thing before I dove into this nightmare to chase the 300 FPS promise. With little information to go on, it seemed like I should trust the kit designers as Frontline Foam makes it seem like these are proven mods. I could post a long term review of the X-Longshot that would be full of real and useful information with all the problems I encountered with this thing. I would focus on mods though because that is the real beauty of this blaster, stock it's a cheap 130 FPS piece of crap that breaks, the Maxx Stryker is better in every way. This is the best blaster I own and I have modded every part on both the Nexus Pro and the Max Stryker. It reaches at least 150 feet flat with leaking o-rings, a plunger tube that is too short and an unsecured barrel from the Frontline Foam kit. This is a whole new level of blaster tag, I couldn't see the darts after they left the barrel because they were moving so fast, I also couldn't see them land because it shoots so far and that's with the glow tipped half length darts and the B-Scar tracer unit. I'm working on getting a magnified scope now so I can see where I'm shooting. My advice: Don't buy the Frontline Foam kit, get better parts individually. If you did then: Get someone to help you install the spring, have them put in and screw down the little silver screw that holds the two parts of the priming system together while you use all of your might and kill your hand pushing the spring back while preventing it from popping out of the half shell channel. Good luck getting the top half of the shell on while the spring system tries to pop out of the thin shallow shell walls. Use epoxy and bracing pieces to reinforce the inside of the shell. Wrap electrical tape around the barrel on the inside of the shell behind the "quick swap" 3D printed piece so the barrel does not slide out. Glue the threaded muzzle piece on when the 3D printed threads break from the install. Put at least one wrap of PTFE tape (folded in half) under both plunger tube O-rings. *Please let me know if there is a bigger and stronger plunger tube with O-rings to fit for this blaster.
Thanks for the in depth personal experiences, I at least appreciate that! As for the eventual mods I'm going to do, I plan to do at least two different routes (and absolutely will showcase these in long form videos). One will be a piece by piece mod/build, with parts selected individually and not a kit, while the other will be based off of the Sabre parts kit that will be the anchor of a second build. Kind of a budget vs top of the line build. Then a third will just be a basic mod, only PT and spring most likely.
That's awesome, looking forward to it. I'm learning new techniques for reinforcing the parts and shell which I plan to do for my X-Longshot (which I have started calling the X-Taurus as the design came from this blaster by Orion Blasters) because my spring is maxed out. Would love to see a video on this as there isn't anything currently out there on it and it's a big deal with this blaster. I just subscribed, keep up the good work. @@MongooseJakeNerf
I appreciate your efforts and opinons! Don't know why anyone wouldn't purchase this blaster. With looks alone, I purchased a second as a decoration for my office. 😄
Finaly not another quick out of the box review to be the first. There should be more torough reviews. Keep it up! It does need 1 other thing besides a plunger tube and a spring is a scar barrel.
With the full lengths you have to pull back extra tight so the dart pops up, its easy to work around once you realise, but i havent broken a single dart you can use everything in this
I was actually doing that after the first mag, this one specifically flat out refuses to feed full lengths reliably. Worker full lengths are the only ones that feed mostly reliable in this one, including with a extra pull on the prime.
@@MongooseJakeNerf weirdly enough I had the same issue you have with the German (now seemingly EU wide) low powered version. It ate darts like hell, mostly long ones. If using a k25 in it, the added effort to prime it usually meant that the last part of the prime was so hard that, you shook the blaster around just enough to make the darts feed properly. My second (internationally specced) one did not have the same issue. I think the blaster lacks quite a bit in QC and while it is (comparatively) dirt cheap to get such a blaster that has quite good power or can be taken easily there, it is a bit overhyped and overrated.
@@MrFreefonix420 I plan to grab two more for builds and had just been waiting until after I reorganize my workshop (this video doesn't show the mess off screen, lol). I'll see if the issue happens with them before I tear them down for builds.
"CDs are old school"? [looks at 45rpm disks] Tsk, tsk. Kids today. Jokes besides, good review. Bit of extra info: I noticed on mine that it _always_ jams if I load a mag to full capacity (the very common practice of adding an extra dart after nominal capacity). Leaving one dart out seems to guarantee no jams (I've never ever had a jam after the first dart is actually fired). So the thing _seems_ to be more picky on follower spring tension than on what kind of dart you feed it.
So there is no "dead space" between the Rifling and the barrel... using it backward puts the Rifling exactly at the end of the barrel, Reducing the FPS loss and optimizing the dart transition from barrel to scar when shooting the blaster.@@samh.1202
