My takeaway from these has always been not "bobby says this is better" and more "this figure excels at A, that figure excels at B" and then it's up to me to decide which of those is more important.
That is how I always took it as well. The ratings fall on categories, and certain categories have more value to someone than another so they can use the versus to inform their choice.
Same here. Though i must say i do enjoy seeing the final tally however it goes in the comparison. It's great being able to see a side by side comparison and then be able to judge for ourselves. Bobby and TMReviews are the comparisons i most watch for
The three category matrix is a great idea to apply the category results to something more tangible. I’m sure it may still not be sufficient enough for some, but I’m well in favour of it. Good stuff!
I was just going to make the same comment. I love the additional breakdown specific to one's priorities. Great idea, Bobby. I hope you keep that aspect moving forward.
Nick is a small business. Just because he’s more expensive doesn’t mean he is ripping people off. They know the price prior to buying, and decide Nicks is the better option for them. Lol “rip-off” smh. 😂
I feel like the X-Transbots would make a good companion piece to the original MP Bumblebee in terms of proportions. Fanstoys has more animation accurate proportions and fits better with a penny racer style Bumblebee (I'd say MP Bumblebee V2 if that wasn't such a badly engineered mess). Hopefully Fanstoys will be using this mold as the basis for a Bumblebee figure. I would buy that instantly.
As someone new to TF collecting your videos, especially these Versus videos, have been a huge help and a lot of fun to watch. I've learned a lot about the different companies involved (although some aspects are still a mystery) and what to look for when making purchases. It would be interesting to hear your perspective on how MMC's Hellion would have fared in comparison but great video and thank you for the great content.
I agree Bobby's reviews have been a huge influence on my transformer purchases, and he has a wealth of transformer knowledge, and has taught me so much about the license
MMC Hellion is probably the worst of three but, I still chose him over X-transbots Toro simply because of the faux chest that Toro has. I now have Fans Toys Parkour so Hellion will now be in alt mode while Parkour stays in robot.
I understand what FTs is going for with the alt mode, but it does seem an odd move seeing all their other alt modes look like real vehicles. I am keeping Toro for his alt mode, and FTs for bot mode. Thanks for the vs video Bobby. You know I appreciate all the work that goes into these videos.
Fair result, the new matrix is a nice addition. I've got the mmc currently, had the xtb too but admired what mmc tried to do so kept it. I'll probably be swapping out when my FT finally arrives.
Great VS. love the idea of the new "matrix" categories. I don't have Toro but I have MMC Hellion which I liked well enough in bot mode but there is no comparison of Hellion and Parkour in bot mode as Parkour looks so much better. My Hellion is now on display in car mode which I think looks pretty good this way.
Love the video Bobby! all I know is when I was transforming mine to car mode there was 2 or 3 times I contemplated crushing the lil bastard to dust! but I do love how he looks in both modes!
God, the truth is both are horrendous. Had Rose tinted glasses on Toro until the vid. I still believe the worst FTs are only good looking at the front view
That’s brilliant to group your ratings to our personal preferences: shelf presence, playability, etc. because expecting to judge all figures through the same lens was my biggest issue in the community. I love FansToys for shelf presence, but I prefer Takara for playability. Some rather have more figures with mainline, while others only want ThreeZero movie accurate action figures. There’s something for everyone.
I love your versus series, I love to see others opinions on figures and I have been a fan of yours for a few years now. On the articulation with Parkour, he does have an ab crunch, though minimal, but that would tie out the hips, maybe? I was going to get the MMC Helion before this was announced, so I waited and I am glad I did. Now if FT will make a Bumblebee out of this CJ that would be great! Have you seen the Takara CJ? He's ok but he suffers the same foot issue as Bee does, good ole' windowfoot. Of course all of the rest of the issues carried over as well. ANyway, another awesome vs. video!
Wait parkour shoulder thing is the same problem on jive. You move the shoulder and have to hold the the whole torso otherwise the whole arm section moves. That really annoyed me with jive, just unnecessary.
At my age ( which is a wee bit over 40 now 🙄 ) , I’m all about shelf presence & show accuracy. Knowing the fact they CAN transform if I desire is the bonus feature for me .
Bobby in regards to the flip up headlights. Maybe you are thinking about the x-transbots boost/windcharger. That figure was the red trans-am with the headlights that were moveable.
If all you're doing is displaying the transformer, which is most likely the vast majority of collectors, what it looks like is the single most important factor. If that's cartoon accuracy go with one figure, if that's a modern update/how it might look in the real world it's usually another figure. Too many people overthinking this.
Kinda always thought xtb toro was an eyesore with those calves, backpack, and those feet. A lot of choices on that one that seem like a chug toy. Stuck with xtb for hoist and trailbreaker, but this one was 100% fans toys for me.
Great versus as usual Bobby! The only complain I have is about Parkour's price, as he was $109 on BBTS, which usually have fairly high prices for FT figures, and he was $99 on ShowZ, with free shipping to US. Although technically, XTB would still win at $89, since that is a fairly old release, if you count in an inflation, I think they could be tied for price. OFC with Parkour release, I guess there will be bunch of Toros on the market, and some might even be MISB, but I am not sure if that price would actually count. :D I haven't picked up MP sized Cliffjumper and I actually used Earthrise as a temporary filler (leftover from my CHUG collecting days) as none of the available options were doing it for me, but when FT announced Parkour I was all in. IFor some time I was wondering if that alleged Takara CJ will turn out to be a decent competition, but based on last update that's not happening... And that's IF that is indeed Takara, which I'm not sure. :D
Great video. I think you did a good job of being objective to each figure and company. I do think that Fans Toys vs MMC would have been a better comparison as they both go for the cartoon asthetic a little more. I really liked my MMC version even though you weren't a fan of it. I actually think you will need to revisit this one again once the TakaraTomy Version comes out whenever that is as we'll see if TT can do a better job at their own character than FT. I look foward to your Skyfire / Jetfire review as well. Till then...thanks for continuing to put out content for us.
Bobby, do you have any experience with the Ocular Max Hellion? Back in the day it and Toro were the competing CJs so I was wondering if you had any thoughts?
Great Matrix setup i love this aproach, now to put in Love and inguinity Xtransbots always would take the Love and Toy (I king on Making Autobots) aproach and Fanstoys nails inguinity and stylized Cartoony (Is King in making Decepticons). Great Day work, Thank you so much
So it’s weird for me but I chose toro because he had the less cartoon accurate vehicle mode. For me I kept the og bumblebee masterpiece for the same reason I’m a bit of a car guy so I really like the world accurate vehicle mode compared to a more accurate cartoon version. But that’s the beauty of having so many different options. Instead of bickering and fighting over which one is definitely better it’s more options meaning people like me who look for more niche things.
Very well done VS...Agreed with outcome. 1st FTs I bot in 2 years and yes it is better Overall than XTB. But the Toony Alt mode is not for me, MP to me is RL Alt and Toonish Bot. FTs new Toony direction does not match well with Their earlier releases such as Dinos, WarPath, Hound etc, it's getting tuff to justify buying 1 for Bot and 1 for Alt.
I think both are off. I’m talking Gun to my head. But they’re both off so neither looks better overall. That’s why they tied. Maybe time for hearing aids? 😂 in all seriousness tho, 2022 annual physical placed my vision above 20/20 😤😆
Sculpt but not aesthetics. I said I think the face sculpt is proportioned more appropriately, but because the face looks caved in it doesn’t look good. Maybe you need a dictionary. 😆
For your last category for 'playable' you tied them, by giving articulation to Fans Toys, but isn't that X-Transbots win because you had them for articulation giving them 3 to 1 in their favor? Or am I a moron who isn't worthy to claim a spot in the human race because I am the blueprint for all morons?
