I loved the piano because i loved it,and found it easy to play,but i want to learn this instrument now,because i love the sound. We are so blessed to be able to play instruments,really wanna learn how to blow and make a sound
I am surprised that this instrument really produces a nfull saxophone tone. I discovered it while regaining my love for the recorder and saw it on various online music shops. Interesting instrument....maybe it wil inspire me to to play my old clarinet again.

I have a question, I know these are usually in C, as a singer who plays pretty basic rhythm guitar, I'm wondering how that limits the range of keys I could jam with when the guys are playing songs on guitar. I'm guessing that if it's in C then I'd be limited to songs in C,F,G and perhaps D? I ask as there are some available in different keys, Eb and Bb like proper saxes, but also D, F, and E. Considering we are often playing songs in A and E, which suits my vocals, would I need to buy a range of pocket saxes to jam properly? I'm wondering if buying them in D and E as well as the standard C would be worthwhile, perhaps necessary? I don't play lead guitar, but as I understand it if a song's in A, you'd play the E scale for a lead break or something, not the A scale. I'm asking here because I've been trying to work it out all afternoon, but have only found info on transposing normal Eb and Bb saxophones, and I don't think that applies. Sorry to ask.
Actually, the xaphoon is a chromatic 2 octave instrument, meaning it can play in any key. The range is from low c to high c, but you can play all chromatic notes in between. The fact that it is "in C" just means it is tuned to concert pitch, so you don't have to transpose. A written C in music notation is fingered "C" on the xaphoon. An Eb alto sax reading a concert C note would have to transpose up a Major 6th and finger "A" to match the tone of concert C. All that to say a regular xaphoon can play in any key because it has ALL the notes within its 2 octave range. That's called chromatic. Hope this helps! Good luck😄
@@clayandannasteinwinter8747 Thanks, I had realised about transposing with a normal saxophone, and what you've explained makes perfect sense. I guess it was our "harp" player that had me confused, he had a belt with harps for each key, but if we said for instance that the song was in E, it wasn't an E harp he'd select. So perhaps I was thinking that if I learned the fingering for a certain sax riff, I'd change to a mini sax in a different key to match the key of a song rather than change the fingering. This is why I'm a singer, I'm a lazy musician! I can play guitar, bass and drums, but have mastered none of them. I've always thought about learning to play harmonica to compliment singing, but pulling out a xaphoon would be so much better. Thank you for your time and help, I get it now. :)
@@Dave-Rough-Diamond-Dunn It makes me wonder if you know about modes. That sounds like a harp player who kind of has to understand some of it because of the nature of the harp but doesn't really get it. So in C, the crossharp would be G. Meaning you'd use a G harmonica to play a blues in C. But that really means you're using the C Mixolydian scale. F would be Lydian and D Dorian. Which is honestly very useful if you want to have a nice mellow jazzy sound. Probably better for an instrument like this. So if you do end up getting one or if you're messing around with a guitar or something, try playing around with it. It opens up all kinds of possibilities. I'm sure you can transpose from there but I tend to think in C then transpose. Does that make sense?
I think it's a great instrument, and easier to learn and cost less. Major flaw is the name, the name indicates a connect to some exotic land, because of that, it won't go mainstream, no matter how good it sounds.
Good question. It is the Maui Pocket Sax. It should be around 60-80 us dollars. I wouldn't get one of the 20 dollar ones, as they will not have the same good quality. I actually bought mine from the Maui pocket sax site.. i do believe the Amazon 60$ version is the same...Good luck!
It's concert C instrument...but I'm playing the song in F. It is chromatic, meaning you can play in different keys, once you learn all the fingerings patterns
Lol, it is one piece so you cannot tune it by pushing in or out, no. Placement of the Reed higher or lower up on the table makes a difference, but mostly you have to use your embouchure to lip up or down. It helps to already have woodwind experience!
@@clayandannasteinwinter8747 Ehm. Not to be rude, but you seem to have woodwind experience and yours is way out of tune (sharp). It seems really weird to sell an instrument that can't be tuned imo. I really wanna get one, but this keeps my from buying it. :-/
@@MortenBN1988 could just be the play along recording is flat. But I get what you mean. It would be cool if you could tune it up or down to sit who you are playing with.
No, plastic reeds are not templates, they are a real alternative to traditional cane. I have been performing professionally on plastic reeds (saxophones) for almost 20 years! I swear by them
