!Xaus Lodge is a unique privately owned lodge in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, in South Africa's far northern Kalahari desert. It's just so unusual and unexpected to find a lodge of this caliber in such a remote area. A 4WD vehicle is needed to reach !Xaus Lodge, which is a 30km drive across the dunes. This really is remote and what a pleasure to be able to visit and review such a special place.
There is no mobile reception, no internet and electricity is only available for part of the day and evening. But the silence is absolute and the sounds of the desert more than make up for that. For me, it's a positive, not a negative.
They have reduced rates for SADC residents, so my advice is to take advantage of it while you can, once international restrictions are lifted, it will once again only be affordable to international visitors.
