i used a piece of aluminium foil to short pins of my hard drive and my E68 error code disappeared :o it works with my hard drive, may work with yours...
This worked for me too. I've got an older 360, bought it two years ago now. It had a 20GB drive. I hadn't used it for a year since I was overseas working, and it E68'ed on me when I booted it back up. All the tin foil does is select slave/master on the hard drive. Apparently that's all the 360 needs? Good work, thanks for showing this.
Damn I miss the old dashboard and hate the nxe avatar crap, but for those that have old hard drives around, the jumper from a hard drive will work just the same and is made to do just what that foil is doing. Nice work, info like this is priceless, no one want to lose their entire drive/profiles and not be able to recover it.
If you have a bad HDD, take it out and plug it into your computer. Download MHDD, and boot into it, select your drive and erase delays and then rebuild it. Works for pretty much all hard drive problems :D
With my 360, the hard drive simply wasn't seated on the connection fully. I took it off, booted it w/o the hard drive, then reattached it and rebooted it and the E68 error disappeared. Hopefully that was the only problem, and hopefully that is the case for most of you guys as well.
sometimes you can just take it off and put it back on and everything's fine or remove the av cables for 10 seconds while the system is turned on. But what i do is simple= I turn on my XBOX first i wait about 5 seconds and THEN i turn on my T.V. and it works fine. remember turn your xbox on while your T.V. IS OFF it might help im just telling you guys what worked for me.
ok b4 i try this my 120gb hdd is making a squeaky sound & its got the E 68 unplug the hdd and xbox works fine i need to no is it trash or can i fix this plz help xbox wont help called them they want me 2 pay 150 for a 250 gb and they wont tell me what made this hapn so i can prevnt this if i get a new one
My Xbox 360 Elite has a 120 GB hard drive... and it doesn't have the pins next to the connector. I'm thinking about sticking aluminum foil in random places until something changes. If it works, I'm going to make that my new philosophy for life in general.
Anybody else watched countless videos on how to fix this and it still wont work? Foil, tapping it on hard surfaces, letting it sit for a while and even the freezer method doesn't work. The only thing I haven't done is thrown it out the window...
your not short pinning anything, them pins are to make your harddrive master/slave. so because you made it master it has reset itself and the xbox dosent see it as the corrupted harddrive no more and only sees it as the master one. i tried this method, didnt work for me.
@gregordnb You do know that they make "jumpers" that do the exact same thing u did but they stay on there forever. I have about 50 of em in my dresser lol.
didn't think it would work , ill be damned if it did work! only took about five minutes put some foil on it hooked it up and bam! only thing that suckes is you have to re-format it to your x-box , in turn losing all your shit! but at least im not out $50 bucks ,and thats a good thing cause REACH is calling my name, thanks for the video dude!

i got 3 red lights for about a week and today i turned it on and it gave me green lights again yay but i turned it back off and i got the rede lights again
Guys I had the same problem two days ago, I googled it and turns out this problem is caused by the hard drive. Its either corrupted or misplaced. Mine was misplaced from the back so all I did was put it back in its correct place ( you can know that its placed correctly when it clicks from the front and behind of the hard drive). So don't panic if you get this error its no big deal. Happy Gaming =)
last i saw it was xbox 64% ps3 10.7% wii 6.8% own both PS3 and 360 3 xbox replacements (red ring) and one E68 error 1 ps3 replacement (minor disc read error still worked though)
My Xbox 360 S is now 2 years old and got the red ring E 68 error randomly one day while I was playing. I've tried everything, Nothing has worked I need help and I don't want to just tear into my Xbox 360 not even knowing if it will work or not.
you did loose your memory and dlc but if you recovery your profile on another hard drive it will show you have purchased the items you just hav to dwnload them again
My xbox got the E68 to, but my xbox still works when I take out the HDD. So what I want to know if I could just buy another HDD or do I have to send it in for repair. I've been hearing you you have to keep the HDD that came with your xbox. Please help.
ok.. as happy as i was.. i just got brought down.. why isnt it possible that i cant download my gamerprofile, it says thats the hard drive isnt plugged in properly or that my hard drive doesnt have no momery. which has 12 gs left on it. and its connected al the way... have any ideas?? big help.. thanks ^_^
@xXCRMDXx There is no spelling mistake with "it works with mine hard drive" every word is spelled correctly. I think you are talking about a grammar mistake.
e68 is not always hard drive faliure...could need power adjusments. meaning change the plug your xbox is plugged into when u get the e68 or it could be fan faliure
I read through the comments, pulled off my 120GB hard drive, punched it and put it back in and it worked. Not sure how long it'll work, but maybe just replace your hard drive?
@akath I think I found the reason for e 68s the hard drive :D just take it out reboot it, then put in the hard drive and reboot it again :D totally worked for me too
turn xbox on take hdd off turn xbox off disconnect all wires reconnect all wire dont reconnect hdd turn xbox on take out disc put some sort of readable memory in a usb port like memeory stick or the memory provided with xbox then reconnect hdd go to setting and format hdd the E68 means corrupt hdd or hardware failure somewhere connect the hdd (YOU WILL LOOSE ALL DATA EITHER WAY BUT THIS IS THE EASIST FIX IF ITS A CORRUPT HDD)
I have a Seagate as well, did this method and it allowed me to play, but it wouldn't let me save or create a profile to save. Does yours allow you to save as normal?
man that sucks.. my 120gb HD doesn't even look like that.. it doesnt have the pins separated and coming out like that were theres 4pins Xtra available.. it just has black plastic covered.. and when connected it takes up all the gold pins.. more like flat gold pins.. aghh if anyone can help me please PM me.. E 68 error code is what i have.
it worked for me, the error is gone. But did ur 360 work fine after that?..cuz mine seems to be slow or i think think i have other problems now, unrelated though.
nice vid i tried to do that a few minutes ago but i failed miserably cuz my hdd is a fujitsu and your is a samsung. I just wanted to know if there is any other possible way you can short pins on the fujitsu hdd. thanks
