Never seen a BGA repair before. I teresting to watch the process. Also good to see a JTAGable board be saved instead of being recycled due to RRoD Good Job 👍
Hey Josh, I was curious if you recommend anyone to do these kinds of repairs since you no longer focus on providing services. Love these GPU replacements and having a xenon console last is something I am very interested in. Thanks for all your support over the years and thanks for your time!
Hi! i have a spare GPU ELPIS X819193-002 and i want to replace my dead XENON GPU. Besides soldering the new GPU, are there any more steps to do in order to get it working? Or just plug n' play?
So cool! Do you have a list of the tools you use posted anywhere? (Your soldering irons, brands of flux, solder, heat gun, etc.) Thatd be very interesting to know!
Not really. Here's a few: Iron: Weller WES51 (Analog), tip shown here is ETKN Flux: NC-559-V2-TF Genuine Wick: Goot CP3515 or MG Chemicals 426LF Hot Air: 858d El Cheapo BGA Rework: DIY
@@Josh.Davidson Wow thanks! I'm surprised more people haven't asked for this. You've obviously got a talent for this stuff so it's very helpful to know what tools you prefer & recommend.
Thank you for this video! I'm a total noob when it comes to this. I have an old Xenon model and would love to play my old 360 games again. You helped me identify the problem. For a noob without skills and proper tools, do you think it's wiser to just buy a refurbished 360 Elite for 50 bucks or try and replace the gpu myself? (It would probably be more expensive buying all the tools right?)
@@Josh.Davidson Thanks a lot! Sucks that's you're US-based or I would've gladly paid you repair it haha! Is there any specific model you'd recommend? The Slim, E or Elite? Latest E model is probably the safest bet in terms of reliability right? Heard you say the Kronos is the best mobo, but I don't think these online second-hand shops here go into the specifics.
@@ZZARevolution A Jasper is the best reliability whether Tonasket or not. Or, yes, aim for a Corona model E slim or if you don't care about modding the Winchesters are solid.
Hello Josh. Please tell me Xbox 360 Falcon errors 0022 (35-37 seconds) and sometimes 0020 (25 seconds). In the console, the original nand dump. Is it a problem with the GPU too?
Hello, I can't know from that info, you can start here: errors.octalsconsoleshop.com/details/0022 If this not work, then you need to get the post code.
@@Josh.Davidson ah I see. I’m new to this whole thing, but thanks for the info. Thankfully it had a good disc drive, so I can use the disc drive on a Jasper unit I just got with a bad drive.
Greetings Josh! Recently I've been facing a frustrating issue. Every time I wake up, I find a well done steak on my night stand. This is frustrating for two reasons. One, I have no clue where these steaks are coming from and two, I hate a well done steak, I greatly prefer medium-rare. Have you faced this issue before? Do you have a solution? It's seriously been driving me mad. I wish to stop these phantom steaks! Sincerely, Your good friend, Dr. Boomhauer
How do you keep the new solder balls on the chip? Does the new chip come with solder already on it? Or do you stick the new solder balls on the motherboard first? This step always confuses me lol
Hi can you please tell me every tools that you need to replace the gpu?(sorry for my english) i have a xenon 360 that sometimes have the 0020 error and sometimes 0022 error, do you thing that reballing the gpu can solve my problem?
Zephyr_B and Zephyr_C are same pinout. RHEA GPU can be realized on that board. Essentially Y2 and RHEA are same, except the eDRAM. RHEA is even codenamed Y2.5.
@@Josh.Davidson Awesome. One more thing... I found a good deal for a Xenon that was serviced in June 2008. I know it could've been sent in for anything, but have you seen Xenon's from that era with Elpis GPU's?
@@steamingrefuse Serviced could be a toss up. Maybe some got new GPUs and some were serviced for other reasons. The refurb boards usually fitted with new GPUs are in "MFR date" cases 2007/2008/2009+
Just wanted to come back to confirm that yes- just because a Xenon has a 2008~ service date doesn't mean it has the Elpis GPU installed. I bought 3 Xenons that were serviced between 2008-09 and they were all either 57 or Y1 Korea, with one of the Y1's sadly being 0102. EXT_CLK works great on both 57 and Y1 though in my testing, getting near instaboots with both Matrix and CR4... seriously appreciate the work you guys have done to make these older systems exploitable.
@@steamingrefuse Hi Don't know what you mean CR4, I never made EXT_CLK for him. Elpis start appearing in 2009 btw, but serviced might not always get. Usually I see MFR date with him. Btw - GPU 57 is actually a prototype GPU. All X02056 or X817791 GPUs are Y1 (year 1) design.
Hey Josh. I have a halo 3 speciell edition Whit jasper bord. When i turn it on the fan start whit max speed and it only flash red. Is this the right fix? Or should I get a falcon bord and change? Thanks for the help
Wow man great job your BGA rework skills are impressive. I recently discovered I have a jtagable 7371 Xenon but it throws rrod with 0102 once in awhile. Is it even worth saving?
Cheers josh you’re right. Thanks for your reply. I’ll probably sell it as is and perform RGH on a jasper I’ve got laying around. Just need a nand flasher 😂
@Josh.Davidson okay let me know. I would love to get my zephyr 360 back working again because of nxe. I don't want to jtag it or anything. I just want to have it running and be able to play it without being touched but gpu fix. How much do you charge if you do fix it for me?
@@Josh.Davidson Ah I see. Do you do this as a service? If so where can I get in contact with you? I have a Falcon that gets E74 every once in a while. The secondary code is the cold solder joint.
@@carwashreviewsandmore7609 It is NOT a cold solder joint. Please completely disregard stupid sites like x-ex. The real code meanings can be found on my site: errors.octalsconsoleshop.com Solution in that case of E 74 is to REPLACE the GPU. Anything like reflow/reball is a bandaid fix that will only last for a 2-6 months! The fault is NOT in the BGA soldering like everyone thinks, that is an absurd myth. I don't really do rework as a "service" in the typical sense, more as a "paid favor" to friends or people I know - and also only if it's worth it, like JTAG, XDK, etc. Otherwise the price makes no sense.
@@carwashreviewsandmore7609 If you really wanted it done, I could probably do it for you in a few weeks. Pricing is $100. So usually only worth it for JTAGable, XDK.
Hey sir do you have any type of social media I can contact you if I have questions? I recently bought a zehyr and I'm pretty sure it has a dead gpu because it was said to have rrod. Thanks brother would like the help.
xenonlibrary.com/wiki/Y1_(GPU) In the first picture, the date code is "0550" aka 2005 week 50. In the second picture it is "0824" for 2008 week 24. Then the third picture further down the page is "0819" for 2008 week 19. That is the earliest fixed chip I have seen. I have seen defective chips as late as 2008 week 11.
No, I am change it for another 80nm GPU RHEA which was manufactured in 2010. MS continued producing fixed version of both RHEA and ELPIS 80nm to fix RROD Xenon Zephyr Falcon until 2011.
@@Josh.Davidson Oh ok thank you for clarifying. Maybe one day someone will figure out the necessary modifications that are required for the Xenon and Zephyr motherboards so the the 65nm GPU can run properly on them.
