@@Tom_Van_Zandt yup. I remember creating Sting and Arn Anderson and using their actual themes. Pretty awesome. Too bad, like they mentioned, the gameplay was pretty bad for those games. I would add my own music to the NHL Hitz game too. Awesome.
I got the Xbox my senior year of high school and I never looked back. The thing that blew me away at the time was the hard drive and not needing a memory card. It was unbelievable. By the spring I had bought Rainbow Six 3 and gotten XBL. By the fall I had nearly flunked out of college because I was playing live from sunset to sunrise. Love this console. Still have it, still play it.
Being able to save on the hard drive was such a great feature at the time. We were both more into the PS2 back in the day but have really enjoyed getting into the XBOX in recent times. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
used to have a special suitcase that was big enough to hold my original Xbox and my original PS2 too, and lug this around to friends houses at the same time in my senior year of high school, And it was so awesome to be able to have 16 player lan-battles in halo on the Xbox
LOL! Lots of cheap deals out there for it right now. We've really been enjoying collecting for it over the last few years. Best of luck with your collection. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
For all those who don't know Xbox is still being played online thanks to xlink Kai, there's also a great community that has regular game night every weekend. Check them out on RU-vid, Xbox Kai fam, you can also check out their Discord, there link will be in their RU-vid channel.
Loved the fact that it was made during the pure and simple period of the 21st century. Just pop in the disc, you're in the game instantly without installing, you sign in to Xbox Live in the game, make friends along the way as you're matchmaking in Live enabled games, and can download DLC. Can't forget the masking option and open game chat too while very few went into a private party chat!
Man, there are some great game in modern times but the CONSTANT updates, installs etc are so damn annoying. The simplicity of putting a game in and it just f'n working is something special. Thanks a ton for watching!
We've never played that one but have heard great things. We have some buddies that absolutely love it. We'll find it game hunting some day I'm sure and add it to the collection. Cheers!
@@maxvanbreemen I just really wish I could of had this Game when I had an Original Xbox in the beginning… I had Halo & the ‘Pack In’ Sega GT 2002/Jet SetRadio & Splinter Cell .. But going back and trying to play Morrowind now on my OneX is difficult because I Started with Oblivion (a game that really got me into Huge Open World RPG’s)
LOVE the Dreamcast. That was the first console I ever bought with my own cash. Wish it wasn't so damn expensive to collect for these days. We have a pretty decent collection for it but there is a lot more games we'd like to get at some point. Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid I actually JUST barely started collecting for it this last summer. Definitely a pricey (and noisy) boy, but god is it fun to play and collect for! Jet Grind Radio, Hydro Thunder, Grandia 2 all a great time
Dreamcast is on another level all together than the OG Xbox, you can say the PS2 is also. They are both much closer to legit arcade hardware than the Xbox which is just an average PC. I have a couple OG Xboxs still just for the fact of having one but they aren't what gaming is about.
@@GamingOffTheGrid Just a note. Some games save files are too big for the memory cards you can get. That is why they don't offer a memory card choice. I am sure there is a list somewhere.
As someone who’s had their original Xbox since 2003 I can say that buying the memory card was beyond worth it. My console has been on its last leg for some time and I’ve put dozens upon dozens of hours into certain games. The memory card (although not perfect) has let me copy & transfer some of those saves to my new original Xbox console I recently picked up (limited edition green Halo Xbox). It’s pretty hit or miss but if one of the games you’re looking to transfer supports the memory card it’s a great “get out of jail free” card for someone with a dwindling system. NFL Street 2 was the game that made me the happiest, as I was able to copy my saved teams I spent decades playing with, onto my new console.
So I just started getting back into gaming and collecting the games and systems I used to play. So that means, I bought an OG Xbox, Xbox 360, Nintendo 64, GameCube, Switch, PS4, Series S for my new game room. All of these buying guide videos have been super helpful. Really enjoy your channel! Keep up the great content!
Just found your channel and absolutely love it. I love the OG XBOX. I have been actively collecting for it now for about the last 9 months. The games are cheap and really fun to play. I agree that the games will go up eventually. I see these and the PS3 games shooting up in value in the next year.
Great video guys! Here are my recommendations that weren't mentioned: Logitech's Xbox wireless controller (amazing), Star Wars: Republic Commando, the MechAssault games, Greg Hastings Tournament Paintball, and I second making the Xbox your choice for multi-platform games.
We love our Logitech PS2 wireless controllers. Looks like we need to snag some on XBOX. We have the MechAssault games and love them. But the rest we need to grab. Especially Republic Commando. We are suckers for Star Wars games
I legit just picked one up!! Perfect timing guys! I’ve got about 15 games so far. Just got a ps2 as well, about 15 games for it too. So excited to start collecting!!
Hell ya! Off to a good start. XBOX is pretty damn cheap to collect for right now. Hit thrifts, Pawns and garage sales and you'll get lucky. Thanks for watching man. Cheers!
OG Xbox is my favorite console of that generation and maybe favorite of all time. The 6th generation of consoles was really the last one that had the full games on the disc along with the developers actually taking chances on new games. After this generation, the games seemed to cost so much to develop that only sure fire hits/sequels were being made. 90% of the 3rd party games on Xbox were the best versions! Love it! Great video fellas! Keep them coming!
You are spot on. 6th Gen was epic. And since then things have gotten very formulaic as you mention. Developers where trying tons of new things and the 4 major consoles were all great. It's quite possibly the best generation of all time. Hard to argue against it for sure. Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers to the XBOX and 6th Gen!
I bought one for recently for 10 bucks. It was the unit only, so I need to get the necessary cables. Still, I look forward to building up the collection!
For me this is the ultimate all in one entertainment box, all you have to do is hard/softmod it and you've got everything! I love playing all my games right off the hard drive plus all the emulators / Chihiro games. I'm currently playing Virtua Cop 3, Phantom Dust, and Silent Hill 2 (never played this version vs ps2 ver back in the day). This is truly the Dreamcast 2 we never actually got from Sega. I need to get to playing JSRF and PDO great mentions guys. Oh yeah, and if you get the xbox to ps2 controller adapter it makes playing fighting games/ MAME games great since you can hook up your arcade sticks / Saturn ps2 controller.
I'm gonna get one soon. I loved mine back in the day, I had the crystal edition ( that I sold for next to nothing along with 30 or 40 games because I was an idiot). Can't wait to get back into some SSX, Burnout, Conker, PGR, Forza 1, Ninja Gaiden, TimeSplitters, Crimson Skies and Jade Empire(that I never got to complete)
Ya'll mentioned that the console usually goes for ~$30-40, but that's not really the case right now. The price has gone up recently, now it's hard to find it below $50 on eBay. Although, the prices of older and retro console stuff have been on the rise during these crazy times so it may go down after things settle down.
Ya eBay is always a little high. We have found several this year under $25. Garage sales, thrift stores, facebook market place etc. I would say don't pay more than $40. You should be able to get into one for $40 or less fairly easy. eBay is the quickest route though. Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
Hell ya man! Thanks a ton for checking out the channel. Glad you are enjoying the vids. I know there's a time difference but would be cool to have you in a Sunday night live stream sometime to hand with the community. A lot of cool folks. Cheers!
Fun video guys, the common problem with the XBox is the disc tray sticking. A tip to get past the disc tray issue is to take the rubber band out and put it in boiling water for a little while, if that does not work you can order them cheap and replace it easily. Many games on the XBox are cheap I would recommend giving Dragon's Lair 3D, Brute Force, and Crimson Skies a try they are cheap and fun!
Great info man. Thanks for the heads up. As far as the games we have Brute Force and Crimson Skies but need to check out Dragon's Lair. Thanks for watching man and hope all is well. Cheers!
This happens with my 2009 “Arcade” Model Xbox360.. I’ve taken it apart so many times to clean the Laser and Dust it out, but no matter what I do for that rubber band, It STILL goes into LOCK DOWN Mode! Very annoying indeed- I never had Either of my 4 OG Xbox’s do this thankfully! At least with the Xbox360 you could Buy Games Digital after the First couple years..
Been collecting for the Xbox since 2013 and it’s been my favorite console since. Such a fun and cheap console and it plays the best version of games from my favorite gen of consoles. People still play online over Xlink Kai too!
You've got a bit of a jump on us. We're only about 3 years in but love collecting for the same reasons as you. We are way in to the Wii U right now too. Another cheap one to collect for but we sense a major spike coming for the Wii U. Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
Same here, since back in mid 2004 when I was 9! My dad returned from working out of town one day at that time with the Xbox and Halo: Combat Evolved in a bundle as a surprise to the family, months before Halo 2 was out in November that year!
Loved the OG Xbox. Such a great system. Loved the video. I have been purchasing for the last 3 years. Found great titles for cheap. Great video guys. Metal Jesus sent me.
Very cool! Thanks for stopping by. We are in the same boat. Both grew up playing mostly PS2 but the last 3 years we've been collecting the OG XBox hard. Great console. Cheers!
Glad to see the Xbox getting some love! Funny it was the last console I bought that generation, but it's the one I have the most nostalgia for. Most likely because it was my introduction to online gaming and I made friends back in 03 that I still talk to daily. Great video guys.
Oh yes. This was the last console from this Gen we got into as well. Way more nostalgia for the Dreamcast, PS2 and Game Cube. But in recent years, mostly because of the low prices, we have started to built a pretty solid collection and are loving the console. Cheers to the OG XBox!
I had got an xbox when I was like 13 and absolutely loved it. My origonal one broke many years ago. I moved onto the 360 and didn't really look back but I have recently started collecting for it. It has some of my favorite game on it. I really like that generation of games as a whole.
Had mine for years but stopped playing it around 10 years ago and am slowly rebuilding my collection. I’m shocked at just how cheap the games are right now, gonna be hard not to go overboard with this one lol, so many good games are literally dirt cheap, I had no idea.
@@GamingOffTheGrid if you ever find them. The evil Dead games are a riot. Voiced acted by Bruce Campbell. in one them you punt a demon little person at monster a weapon On top of that there hidden special of out takes of Bruce...amazing stuff.
Still have my OG Xbox and the "Duke" controllers. Love breaking out some hidden gems, like horror titles "The Suffering" 1&2 and "Tao Feng", a limb based fighting game that were adult-geared games exclusive to the Black & Green powerhouse. Games like that really gave the console it's cool factor and it's massive specs gave it some serious legitimacy as the top contender moving forward. Great vid and you guys are awesome, thanks for bringing me back down memory lane... and thank you for not mentioning Fusion Frenzy 2, we don't acknowledge that P.O.S. dumpster fire of a cash grab...
We've kicked the tires on that idea. Probably something we'll look into down the line. For now were focused on the main thing. It would be fun as hell though. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Thanks man! We love collecting for the console. The prices make it fun. Fairly affordable comparatively to the rest of the consoles from the generation. Cheers!
Love the OG Xbox. I still have my collection of most my games and started collecting again, and as you mentioned, most of the games are cheaper too. One game you should have brought up is the Dead or Alive series, both 3 and Ultimate were some of the most played games with my friends along with Halo.
Unfortunately we don't have any of the games from the series on XBOX yet. We have been on the look out though. Thanks a ton for watching man. Greatly appreciated. Cheers!
I believe if you start the console without a game in it, you can copy stuff over from the harddrive to the memory card in the main menu of the console. Also you could burn the music from CDs onto your Xbox and listen to your music on the radio in games like GTA or Burnout, which was pretty cool.
The cool thing is Microsoft is doing something very similar to their original console now with the Series, game pass and cloud gaming is almost as revolutionary as having a built in hard drive in the original Xbox. Also the original was the most powerful console in its time , and you could say the same thing for the Series X
Hey, Robert admitted framerates matter! The fact Xbox was the first console to have DirectX support was a big deal for developers. It's why it got so many well optimized PC ports. You never mentioned you can rip your own CD's to the hard drive and listen to it while playing Burnout...what the hell!
@@AECcomputers Yes, the Dreamcast had Windows CE support that had an integrated version of DirectX, but Sega had their own development tools that were overwhelmingly adopted by game developers. There were very few games that used the Microsoft API, whereas the Xbox was actually a shortened name for DirectXbox and all games ran the API, and continue to do so today.
Damn man! That's awesome. We we're both PS2 guys growing up so just recently took the dive like 3 years ago. We were definitely missing out. Great console and so fun to collect for. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Hey guys - just bought an OG Xbox and found this content. The Xbox was my college console. So many great memories playing co-op and vs. games like Tao Feng, Tiger Woods, Soul Calibur 2, NBA Street, etc. Love the channel!
Love the OG Xbox. Been collecting for a few years now. I have noticed a slight uptick in prices for some of the rarer titles, otherwise prices have seemed stable on everything else. My favorite thing about it is most games support 480p with a few titles supporting 720p.
We've only been going at it for a few years as well. About 3 to be exact. Really enjoying collecting for it. It's nice when you can still find deals out in the wild. Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
Just got my console for 115$ Canadian, and about 20 games including Halo, Morrowind, call of duty, Timesplitters for another 90$ Canadian. I’m pumped to get playing these games and relive that nostalgia! Good video guys :)
Started recollecting again and after losing my original copy years ago, it really is shocking how cheap some of the games are. Panzer Dragoon Orta as an example is still around $80 AUD. People still have massive nostalgia for the GameCube and PS2, hence how expensive they are to collect for (which is understandable), but as the years roll on, people will start to understand the true worth of the OG XBOX and value for games will absolutely skyrocket. Still an awesome time to get in while everything is still cheap!
You nailed it. XBOX is flying under the radar of nostalgia. It’s a great time for OG Xbox fans. But enjoy it because the collectors market always catches up. Thanks for watching. Cheers 🍻!
Another banger video even though I’m just catching lip on these clips. I was there from the beginning for the OG Xbox & Xbox 360. It was peak Xbox for sure. Cheers!
We haven't but after getting through this comment section today we're going to open up both of ours this weekend and perform a little bit of surgery. Sounds like a major issue waiting to happen. Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
I still have both my original consoles being the standard black unit along with the Crystal edition both purchased new at retail.Leaking clock capacitor and brocken coroded traces seems to be the major point of failure.
If the console is made after 2004 its a 1.6 motherboard revision and the clock cap isnt an issue. But anything prior has that clock capacitor that can leak everywhere
Great topic! Back in 2001, it seemed like OVERNIGHT there were Halo LAN parties everywhere I went. It took over every household. You would go to a friend's house, sit on the couch, and they would hand you an Xbox controller to play Halo. They didn't even ask if you wanted to play; they just flopped a controller in your lap. I always sucked at it, but still have lots of great memories. Cheers guys!
It definitely was a game changer. We were never XBOX guys but did have a ton of fun at LAN parties back in the day. And we've really been enjoying collecting for it lately because it's so damn cheap for the most part. 6th Gen was pretty damn epic. It was a great time to be a gamer. Cheers!
i always see myself going back to clean my dusty old original xbox to play conker, the warriors and halo games. This is a good video thank you Gaming Off The Grid! i don't own The Duke controller but soon i will
Hell ya! The deals are out there. We got a lot of people saying we were way off on what you can get one for these days :). Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
I ordered another OG Xbox a month ago & it just came in today. I have fond memories with the Xbox & N64 because they were both handed down to me by my older bro & older nephew. But the OG Xbox handed to me by my brother literally stuck with me because I would play HOTD3 so much & beat it several times & I still have all 250+ games that I had as a kid especially the ones that are going up in price. Just have so many memories & nostalgia with it!
One of the common problems with the OG Xbox was some of the earlier models had faulty clock capacitors that would eventually leak and corrode the motherboard resulting in a red circle of death. My Xbox back in 2003 did that after only a year of owning it. I bought it brand new which came with the smaller S controller and the Sega GT/JSRF bundle game. I bought a used Xbox 4 years ago and it still works great so if you're buying an OG Xbox in 2021 then chances are it's not going to have that problem.
Great info and a few others have mentioned this. We have yet to have the problem with the 2 we have but this has motivated us to open them up and get them out of there. Neither of the clocks work any way. Appreciate the info man. Cheers!
2nd greatest console ever! 360 is number 1. But the OG is was great! 39 are compatible with Series S/X. Great games. Emulation beast like you've shown numerous times as well! I still play OG games regularly!
It's a hammer for sure. We just started collecting for it about 3 years ago. So we're not experts by any means but are enjoying hunting for games on it. Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
@@user-yk1cw8im4h how is it weird? It was well loved. I had to buy like 9 of them since I was overseas for like it's whole lifespan. Great games. Back when Xbox used to make them. That and third party games were basically only playable on 360 or of course PC. Amazing on-line architecture and community as well. I still spend a lot of time with my Series S and X playing 360 games.
YES! This is my personal favorite other than the N64. Largely because it was the first console I saved up to buy myself as a kid so that I could play Halo....its all about the HALO! Plenty of other greats on there but Halo is what got me started into the Xbox world
That bond with the first console you buy with your own money is an awesome thing. For me it's the Dreamcast. You are spot on. Collecting for the OG and 360 is a lot of fun right now. Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
The only downside about saving games on the hard drive for the original Xbox is that the hard drive will die out eventually at some point so you will need the memory cards as a backup until you get another hard drive in there
Great point. Have you had issues with games that don't allow you to save on the memory card or is that just me? I couldn't figure out for the life of me how to save my Burnout 3 file to the memory card. It's probably something easy that I'm just missing. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
First the Wii U! Now this! Come on guys. I only play the series X. I would even take yours for free! Lol. O and Ale Smith is great and most of the beers are racing themed. Cheers! - flat earth guy
I'm packing up my Wii to slip off to the UK so they can't try to take it from me! I need to get out of here before they force me to get a *THIRD* Wii U! 🤫
@@scramblesthedeathdealer lol. Those guys always pushing their agenda on us!! Fuck it. I’m buying a Wii U for every room in the house. And Xbox! Cheers!
LMFAO! Watch GOTG and lose your free will :). We have been loading XBOX games onto our new XBOX One like crazy. It's been a lot of fun. Cheers breh! Hope all is well.
Just bought my OG xbox and awaiting delivery.... i totally agree with your points. No nostalgia value, was always a nintendo and sony boy... and this is my first xbox. Why not try where it alllllll began. Im genuinely excited about collecting for it
Little premature but its inevitable but first 25k viewed video. Congrats guys. Keep chopping down milestone after milestone before you know it you will have your first 100k viewed video. Keep it up. Love you guys
Just found your channel and am newly subbed - great video! I came across you guys because I was recently restoring an original xbox, and never having had one before, I'm now looking to add some classic titles for it. Your video has definitely helped me on that path
Nice video! Personally I'm a big fan of the Xbox Original as it was a childhood console. It's definitely great for 3rd party titles. The console having a built-in hard drive allowed certain games to only be possible on the OG Xbox and PC during that generation. I think people should get the console but also of course in the long run I'd recommend someone get all the consoles from the 6th generation as they all have their own great exclusives and qualities.
6th Gen was epic man. Really hard to not put it at the top. All 4 major consoles were badass and are still amazing to play to this very day. It was a really fun time to be a gamer for sure. Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
The thrift stores in my area don’t carry any gaming merchandise. I can get books, cd’s , dvd’s , etc , but not a single game or console. I think people have wizened up and sell on eBay now.
Loved this episode, beer and Xbox speaks to me lol. been quietly collecting this system over a year, buying game lots and 2nd hand shops, cheap and looks great. Love the doom 3 metal case one the most right now.
I have the original Xbox since Christmas 2004, but it stopped working in late June 2016 so I got another one in July 2016. Thanks to Xenon Xyanide's Xbox retrospective, I've been buying more Xbox games and accessories to show my love and appreciation for the console. The best part about the console is the custom soundtrack support, which I add my own soundtracks into Xbox games with custom soundtrack support (WWE RAW 2, Counter-Strike, ESPN NFL 2K5, Project Gotham Racing, Black, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2x-4, Gun Metal, True Crime: Streets of L.A., the critically flopped Backyard Wrestling, Phantom Dust, Grand Theft Auto III, etc.).
Great episode, gents! Bought the Sega GT/JGR console bundle in '03 and have been collecting ever since. Replaced with one manufactured in' 05 (older models had a corrosion defect). Been playing Forza on a 4K setup using the official component cables and it still looks great. Thanks for putting this together!
The first generation Xbox games are basically unreleased Dreamcast games. Gunvalkyrie, Breakdown, Outrun 2006, Spike out, Crazy taxi 3, Panzer dragoon orta, Crimson sea, Jet set radio, Shenmue ❤️ very happy to have discovered you guy’s. I feel like we are on the same lvl. Would like to see more OG Xbox video’s. Most underrated games on the xbox imo are Spikeout and Breakdown. Keep up the good work guys!
im a 2007 kid so this was a whole console generation before me, and i grew up playing on the wii and later the nintendo switch and xbox 1 s, but something about the OG xbox interface gives me nostalgia for a time period i never even witnessed
It's pretty cool for sure. The nice thing is there are a lot of games backwards compatible with the 360 and One. So even if you don't have the console you can still find some games on the cheap an experience them. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
So many good memories with the OG XBOX! I still remember convincing my father to use his credit card when I was 13 years old so that I could register my Xbox Live. Being able to have Xbox Live in my bedroom was a gamer dream come true for a young teenager. I had so many good times playing online with Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Project Gotham Racing 2, Moto GP2, Ghost Recon series. The original Ghost Recons were great online for the Xbox. As soon as the OG Xbox was available I sold my Dreamcast and never looked back. Im in the minority here, but I only remember the OG Xbox.
@@GamingOffTheGrid I just stumbled on your page and will continue checking out your playlist! I also recently found an old family photo album where I had the same two Hulk and Ultimate Warrior pillows thrown around my bedroom. Great to know you guys still have them in such good condition. Best!
I didn't have nostalgia for OG Xbox only because I have never owned an Xbox. I picked up an OG Xbox and its cool. It works. I removed the clock capacitor. Replaced the thermal paste. Runs great. I am finally playing Halo lol.
Hell ya man! We are fairly new to the console as well. We played it with friends back in the day but never owned one. We need to do some work on our console eventually. We removed the battery but it could use some new paste at some point. Thanks for watching and cheers to the XBOX!
I love the OG Xbox and collecting for it. The console and games are cheap at the moment but some of the rarer titles are starting to get up to the $100 range. I think in time collecting for it will start to catch on as it becomes hard to find. And you raised a good point that there are only a handful of games that are on the backwards compatibility list. The OG Xbox is also an emulators dream and easy to hack to load your entire game collection on a larger hard drive eliminating the need to use your discs.
Totally. We have really just starting collecting for it in the last 3 years. Right about the time the channel started. Having a blast with it. We definitely need to explore hacking ours at some point. I'm certain I can figure it out but finding the time is the issue. Thanks a ton for watching. Cheers!
