I have high hopes for State of Decay 3. What they were able to accomplish with such a small budget was nothing short of incredible. So with a much bigger budget and full backing by Microsoft sod3 should be pretty amazing. BTW, I finally did it!! Im picking up my Xbox Series X on Friday!! IM SO HYPED!!
Undead Labs get The Coalition helping on State Of Decay 3? This just made my day. Absolutely love the systems and depth of State Of Decay games, they just need to iron out that jank, especially in combat and up the visual fidelity. The Coalition imo are the kings of silky smooth third person shooting and awesome graphics so couldn't think of a better team to help 😀
Disagree that MS only showing the next 12 months in June was a mistake. They needed to set that precedent, so that they don’t have 2020 repeats again, where games are 2-5 years out
I understand that, but I still feel like it's a mistake. These show showluld generate hype for the future and that means you gotta announce stuff further out. Plus. Xbox didn't have any games for this year. So the 12 month things is basically all for the last 4 months of those 12 months...
I actually thought Microsoft should have given only an additional 6 months to give the window of things to show for this years showcase to come out until the end of 2023. There are plenty of projects that people are speculating will come out within the next couple years, but I have a feeling that if they had shown a game coming out holiday 2023 it would be a game we would be very excited about that we haven’t seen gameplay yet.
@@Boxenberger but why not do both? Have one show all they focus on is the nearest releases and then have a show that lets us know what is on the horizon?
@@Boxenberger I have to agree with the OP. For generating long term hype leaks are already doing that without official companies leaning into the same problem. For example even though nothing was announced, we keep getting leaks about Avowed and The Coalition’s new unnamed IP. What a 12 months only precedent does is help manage expectations of actual upcoming content and improve marketing and communication from publishers to gamers in the industry, because right now its really REALLY bad. Especially with a lot of third party publishers where games get announced and hyped up and then don’t come out for years or near decades. Some games get canceled behind scenes and others end up as something entirely different. Look at Cyberpunk 2077 or the next beyond good and evil game that’s TOTALLY coming soon. Microsoft/Xbox especially have had major issues with this. Take Halo Infinite for example. That was announced WAY too early into the development stage and it gave 343 way too strict a deadline. During development they even had to scrap years of work. Its to the point where the game got a year delay and is still struggling with no content and a lack of features nearly another year after that. Other announced games just went radio silent and we haven’t seen at all (everwild, Perfect Dark (which keeps getting concerning leaks), Avowed, outer worlds 2, etc). Apple is an example of why good marketing includes managing consumer expectations and planning accordingly so the hype isn’t stretched too thin (like over a decade). They announce a new iPhone around the same time every where when its ready and are able to to in depth on the minimal upgrades. Yeah they’re a disgusting company and it isn’t nearly worth the upgrade cost on paper, but it makes apple consumers excited and more importantly they don’t feel cheated when they buy the actual phone because it performs exactly as shown and promised. All long distance announcements are good for is short term publisher hype. Which just translates to raising the stock and improving trust in the publishers ability to do well (increasing support from investors), but this doesn’t last when said games don’t come out for years. Its short term benefit for publishers only and it doesn’t really benefit gamers at all. Who cares what comes out in the next 3 to 4 years? I can’t exactly play hype. I joke about TESVI, but personally don’t care. I can’t play it until they actually develop it anyway. I’m not focusing all my time and enjoyment on the potential of a better game coming out in years. I’m just going to play what I do like now.
3:12 - State of Decay 3 does have me a bit curious; interesting to hear of the collaborations occurring within the Xbox Studios. The summit thing is rather neat to learn about and a cool thing for the studios to be doing. 6:49 - I feel in the long term, if Microsoft stick to it, that focusing on showcasing games that will be released within the next 12 months will be to their benefit. It has some short term issues but I feel it gets tiring trying to remain hyped for a game after so many years of waiting. That, an it makes planning for future game purchases much easier if I have a clearer idea of when games are coming out.
Well, I think it's always good to know about some games come later... Having a roadmap of content to look forward to is important imo... But I get your train of thought mate!
