@@Insky_ did you not watch the video? The majority of games on consoles used peer to peer, or the developer's own servers; completely separate from the consoles' internet access.
It does use dedicated servers unlike the video guy says, yes, it's overpriced but in exchange you play in a platform where hackers are rare, you can store your saves to play them in your friends houses and the platform is just plug and play I had all consoles since the game cube and playing on xbox vs playing on ps3 was like day and night, yes I liked more those playstation exclusives but online gaming was more consistent on the xbox and I had good internet, and it really showed since gta5 on xbox 360 had dedicated servers and on ps3 it was peer to peer
Society does suck, and don’t underestimate the knowledge to be gained from drugs that take you on a trip. To suggest that human brains are the only kinds of neural networks, well for one is objectively false, but also incredibly narrow minded and human centric.
They don't need to do anything because high end PC's that compete with next gen consoles are far more expensive. Even the video explains it. That's the trade off, you get good hardware for cheap, and you pay for services. Game pass ultimate is also extremely good value for what you get, most of its subscribers are PC players.
@@RushGamma No they don't, no one company owns pc, its made up of multiple components from different companies so no not any one has much control over the pc market, windows is just an OS that is practically obsoleted by _free_ linux Operating Systems.
"Who'd have thought paying online for this service would ever have gone over well" Dude. When the original Xbox came out and I heard you had to pay to play your games online, my retort was: "Fuck that. I got a PC for online gaming." Honestly...I never really changed my mind about that.
Similar story, used to be a PS "fan boy", then Sony announces they're gonna start charging for online for the PS4 and I said "welp... it was about time I got me one of those fancy PCs", saved up some cash and got me a PC. Hands down the best investment I've ever made.
@@ErikNiceBoy funny thing is theyd pulled me back to consoles with ps3, and the online fee for ps4 meant back to pc. My wife and I have a switch but nope to paying for something already there, artificially blocked.
I think children used to make up a larger share, proportionally speaking, of the video game market when xbox live was introduced. Since it was their parents paying for it they didn't have to worry about the costs themselves. Thus, minimal complaints and opposition.
You have a good point about somebody else paying for it. It always confuses me when games that come with Gold or PS Plus is referred to as "free". It's not free if you have to pay money for for it.
It’s like they hold epic tournaments to decide how bad they want to screw their reputation and the antagonist plowed through all the protagonist plot armor and won the tournament.
My least favorite excuse for having to pay for it is "What you can't afford $60 a year?" Of course I can, but I could also use that $60 for a brand new game of MY choosing or like 15 good steam games that I can play online for FREE
Just the fact that you have to pay to play online with friends when you can do so for free on PC, and that for the longest time you’ve had to pay in order to access FREE TO PLAY games, should be enough to indicate that Microsoft will fuck you with no Vaseline for as long as they can get away with it. Note: This is coming from a lifelong Xbox player that’s only recently made the switch to PC.
Reasons like that are why I'm glad I made the transition into PC gaming. I will say that I'm glad that Microsoft finally saw how viable the PC market is and started releasing their exclusives on PC as well as Xbox.
Ive been downgraded to a phone so I still to a few games with friends and emulation, but when I had a decent laptop let me tell ya I couldnt look back. Free games discounted games firesales n all...
Why the focus on Microsoft when Sony have been doing far more anti consumer moves these past years. Even in this video it fails to mention how GOOD game pass ultimate actually is, the video mentions it several times but doesn't mention that most of its subscribers are PC players. Why ignore that?

TL,DR. No company cares about you, they're all just working to figure out the most efficient way to take money from your pocket in the sneakiest way possible.
I mean it's $24 a year versus $180 for xbox and $60 for psn. You aren't totally wrong, they are totally doing the same thing as Sony and Xbox, but nintendo costs way less and you pay the $2 month to month so you just pay it whenever ya need to ask daddy nintendo to let you use the internet. It sucks, but if I had to keep one of the three it'd be nintendo, atleast its less than a meal from mcdonalds

This video is like 15 years late dude. We've long accepted paying for multiplayer access on console and it's an industry standard. I'm happy to pay a monthly fee that 1) Will deter toxic players who would only have access if it was free 2) Allows publishers to lower costs on consoles and hardware, and 3) These companies making more money means more products which equates to more games. I'm all good here 🤙
It's only an standard practice thanks to people like you, it was a bad business practice then and it still is now. 1) because muting and reporting mean people after a game is so hard right? 2) what you don't pay when actually buying the console you will pay it with live/psn 3) games would be profitable enough regardless. People like you are a blight for this industry
@@jhonnypeligro1159 You don't even remotely understand money do you? The companies are going to get paid one way or the other. Taking away mp costs would only reallocate payments somewhere else. They began charging in the first place because the size and quality of games was increasing exponentially but the POS cost of a game stayed the same for a looong time. So as costs to make games went up, and profits plateoud, they had to implement further charges. They chose to put it in front of mp. Which to me is better than locking away let's say story content? What piece of your game do *you* prefer behind a pay wall if you're so smart? Because production costs are going to get covered regardless of your hurt feelings.
Call of Duty 2 is the game credited for establishing the $60 valuation. You wanna sit here and tell me the quality of game is the same as when CoD2 came out? (Not modern warfare 2 either, "Call of Duty 2").
@@iWookie911 that's bulllshit tho, games right now are more profitable than ever before thanks to things like microtransactions, DLC and digital copies since they don't have to rely in physical stores anymore, none of these would be a thing if paid mp was done in order to prevent paywalls in the games themselves like you seem to believe, also AAA games are so expensive nowadays because of marketing expenses more than the actual productions costs.
@@jhonnypeligro1159 Right. But dlc costs share between publishers developers, etc. Mp costs are for the most part, allocated to publishers. Developers need more money, publishers need it, marketing companies need, it. And a dlc, a physical game, a digital game etc profits are all shared between these entities differently. You're on the right track, but you're generalizing and missing a few points. And your homeboy with the RU-vid channel here should be leading you in the right direction not making crap up. We can't establish consumer friendly monetization strategies if channels like these spin us in circles.

What is a decent company? The point is not never consume/use anything, just that all companys will pass the line if you allow it, payd online is a standard because back at the 360 days, people payed for it, later on , on future consoles sony and nintendo took advantage of that as well, thats all

When I was 11, one of the 2 reasons I never wanted a PS4 or Xbone and got the Wii U instead was because I didn’t want to pay for multiplayer. I was really disappointed to see a Microsoft cultural victory in 2017 with what happened with Switch’s online but then again they are a company too so I should’ve seen that as inevitable.
Man... I wish gaming went back to simpler stuff like this- “Damn bro you gotta pay 60$ a year for online multiplayer???”. Xbooty 360 vs Poop Station 3 was awesome. Shame everything nowadays has gone bad- not in the good “9 year old on black ops telling you he did your mom”, but in the “Pride and accomplishment”, “Every game is broken on launch now”, and “RIP basically every franchise owned by a major publisher” way.
I love how they are making me not miss switching from consoles, Sony and Micro (and now Nintendo) just seems to keep going under more and more with this "deals" Also no, a good pc might cost you from $800 to $1200 but remember, in the long run you get great deals from steam, you don't have to pay for online, and if something happens a quick Google search can help you fix it instead of waiting for Microsoft to update the Xbox for the 20the time while your internet runs on 8kb per minutes.
Exactly. I think the main reason a lot of people don't make the transition into PC gaming is because they're intimidated by building or maintaining said PC. That's why it took me so long to finally make the change...up until I finally did some research and "man up", so to say, and built my computer. One of the best investments I ever made.
He wasn’t making the point that paying for Xbox live was cheaper, just that many people can afford that in the short term but not dropping a thousand on a new pc.

I bought my PC for the price a PS5 currently costs, back in 2019. I can still run CP2077 at High settings with 60fps 1080p, though usually I wait until later in a consoles life and just buy it to physically preserve my single player games. Free online = I use it to play online games, paid online + discs = I just use it to play discs. If Xbox and PS lose the disc trays in the future, I will never have reason to buy a console again when my PC for the same price has infinitely more value, at the loss of physical media.
@@fiercelypolygons3696 Suit yourself, next gen consols cost more than that but with that money you can get a PC that'll remain non-obsolete for like a decade or so. (pre-2010 PCs are ass though)
Never stan a corporation, they are only there to sell you a product or service. Thinking of them anything other than that is cringe, they arent your friend and they don't care about you. They're using marketing strategies to manipulate you into thinking they and their product are the best thing ever
When I became an adult, I was already paying for monthly services, they were the Car Insurance and Registration, the Health Insurance, the Gas bill, the electricity bill, the water bill and the Internet bill. Can't afford to pay to play online multiplayer on a console like the XBox Live or PlayStation Network and the only online console I ever used was the original Nintendo Wii between 2006 to 2010 to download Virtual Console games and play Mario Kart Wii. Happy my only online console experiences were from that era because expecting me to pay to play online with all the stuff I have to juggle in my monthly life is too much. Thus is the reason why I stay single player and don't pay to play any services. Games are Products, NOT Services.
Yeah, it's ridiculous that we have to pay to use the internet when paying a tax for it in one form or another. I was surprise that there wasn't a large outrage when Nintendo added switch online
None of my friends understood why I called XBox Live a scam from the start. I told them that they're just paying for the privilege of using an internet connection that they already paid for, because XBox Live literally doesn't do anything. They show you all the ads that make them money either way. It could just be a free to access website, like it literally is...on your computer.
I gotta say the price argument against PC appears surprisingly weak to me. I'm using an relatively old and mid range set of parts ranging from 3-6 years old and can still run new games at medium settings.
so as a neutral pc,ps,xbox player let me see. PSN needs to be paid and has shitty monthly games AND not working servers Xbox gold needs to be paid and has good monthly games and working servers. sooo? i dont see your point. The only thing im playing on a playstation are the exlusives.
Buy a pc already, homie. A good budget pc can cost 700 dollars. You'll be saving a lot on games from sales, you can even pirate if you want. Also, free online
You forgot to add '...and Playstation' to the title. Western home-consoles are basicslly overpriced medium-settings computers with custom OS, which offers nothing but limitations like 'payed multiplayer' and 'millions of subscriptions'.
Aye, ive been trying to convince friends and family and now, NOW that the price is so extreme over time, do they realize 2k now is better than 7k in 3 years. And then another 3 years dropping lump sums for that new console and another year sub and rebuying your games if backwards compatibility. Then ya add the space of having 2 gens of consoles so ya can keep playing the old games.

Consoles are the whole reason I said "When I grow up im getting a PC" they just are a bigger waste of money in the long run than a PC which has backwards compatiablity, only downside is, some games arent available on PC.
Well I was talking more along the lines like most PS2 games I played as a kid like Midnight club 3, I missed racing games like that but yeah most games are on PC nowadays.
One of the reasons I switched from my xbox 360 to PC was the staggering difference between games' prices in the two platforms. Of course, you still could buy pirated games in the Xbox and play online, but the reliability of still supporting the producer and being able to play without paying was something so surprising to me that since then I never bought a console again.

Small correction. The only reason Xbox started giving away games was to compete with PS Plus, which had been giving games every month from the beginning.
Paying for online always felt strange to me, never understood why people would pay a monthly extra to be forced to use controllers and to be on generally weaker hardware for the price
I was gonna say "They never scammed me, I never payed for it.", then I remembered that I still bought games for a system that essentially didn't have an internet connection for the same price as I could have for another console that did.
