@@AzNstat just gotta tell you man, you helped me upgrade my XBOX, this tutorial is way informative then the PENCE tutorial, I couldn't find answers since I ran into some road bumps to get it working, but it just turns out that I had to wait, if it weren't for you then I would've had been doing so much unnecessary crap lol, thank you brother
@@Nosirrl4747 Thank you so much. I am glad you manage to upgrade your XBOX. PENCE has great tutorials but i'm super stoked that you said that. I tried to cover most of the troubleshooting things that can go wrong with these mods, as some other guides seem to miss out. I went through the same troubles and actually had to re clone the drives because i thought i had messed up which wasted another 2/3 hours doing so =D. Thanks again for the support and happy gaming on the XBOX OG =)
@@AzNstat The critical question that your video and your reply don't answer is whether you pressed "A" to get chimploader to move past the first screen or not. Did you leave it alone for 10-15 minutes, come back, and it was already on the next screen? Or did you wait 10-15 minutes, come back, and press A to move to the next screen. I'm asking because chimploader isn't working for me even though I have done everything exactly right.
@@viic1607 I didn't need to press a. It automatically loaded up chimp loader although there is no harm in pressing a on post screen before it initiates. If you are still having problems I would try the hotswapping again or a different hard drive.
It is worth doing. Fitted a 2TB Sata in mine but used another tutorial. If using a component cable - RGB/RW and you get a blank screen with Chimp then just switch the AV cable and use the original composite/scart cable. Screen should show up then. Works fine with RGB/RW cable after modding is done. Using 950GB F drive for Emulators and Homebrew and 950GB G drive for games. Can't be happier. HDD used is WD Green WD20EADS 2TB 3.5" SATA. I find Filezilla better for FTP but that is my preference as WinSCP sometimes drops the connection when transferring files over on my laptop. I put the WD Green WD20EADS 2TB 3.5" SATA details up on the HD compatibility table as well before I closed the Xbox case up. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the easy to follow tutorial! Shoving everything back together and making it fit was definitely tough and annoying, especially with that bulky adapter in the way!
I'm any other videos even from big renowned modders do not explain that you have to wait over 15 minutes after you load up chimp loader specially on a SATA drive. I thought the process was right away like in other videos. Thank you for the heads up
My Hard drive was shorting the xbox every time I went to change the cable to the new hard drive because the sata convertor was touching the hard drive, I covered the circut board with electrict tape and some cardboard and that fixed it.
Thanks for this tutorial. I am trying to wrap my head around all of this and I have a couple questions. First, is the only pre-requisite to doing this that I have soft-modded the xbox? I read something about TSOP flash, do I have to do that first? Also, if I want to remove the clock capacitor, should I do that before or after soft-modding the xbox? or does it matter? Thanks!
Tsop flash is not needed if you are using the hotswap method. Tsop flash requires some soldering to bridge connection to spoof a hotswap, is safer and quicker, cheaper than hotswapping but not needed if you are following this guide. I suggest removing the clock capacitor before the hotswapping method. 👍
When do you do the hot swap? During the boot animation? Sorry, you came back to the menu and said you’d done it, but we didn’t see it. Just want to be sure at what point you do the deed before I go ahead myself! Cheers.
@@AzNstat Cheers, I’ve just got the stuff needed to do the soft mod using Splinter Cell, so the next step is to educate myself as much as possible on how to upgrade the HDD!
Thank you so much for the clear instructions brother! I am going to give you a shout in an upcoming video where I demo my modded consoles. I do have a question for you...I used a 2TB HDD and as you mentioned, I selected the option to split F and G drives evenly, but F drive is only showing 150ish GB and G drive is not visible. Do you know if there is any way to partition the new drive after the swap has been completed? Any help is greatly appreciated!
Hey so when I hot swap I turn on the xbox, let the menu boot up and sit for a few minutes, then I hot swap it in the main menu? In under 5 seconds. And then I go onto chimp after and let it sit for awhile? I'm trying to find the exact moment I perform the hot swap. Thanks
How can I replace my hard drive without reformatting it? I have an HDD from another chipped and flashed console with Unleash X dashboard just like the current console and I want to swap the drives keeping everything on my new drive intact
I have a feeling it might not work as all the keys link to the Mobo of your original xbox. I mean there is no harm in trying to just swap the HD but if it doesn't load as intended I suggest just redoing the process
Old ide cable isn't capable of transferring data or running games off the HD. Not fast enough. Can only read from dvd drive and save data. If you're using a sata drive you'll have to get the startech adapter aswell . Hope that helps.
First of all thanks for the tutorial. For some reason the F drive only shows as having 120 gb free and there is no G drive shown (I made sure it is enabled in Unleashed X). Inside Chimp both partitions are shown with the correct sizes. I wonder what may be missing.
What about the key? Not sure if all 1s is considered nulled but someone told me not to null it if I wanted to use Xbox live (insignia) which I do for the few games people have "game nights" playing Never done anything like this as the last Xbox I had I bought already modded with a 500gb HDD so want to make sure I don't screw anything up
At 24:53, you put the cursor over option B (F occupies all) and then 'confirmed format', but it doesn't appear that you ever 'checked' the box before continuing the partitioning process. Did chimp loader actually use the 'F occupies all' option when the cloning process had completed?
So my chimp application doesn't even show the hard drive icon. It just prompts the exit option and eventually shuts down. I'm stuck here. When you boot up xbox, does it say microsoft at the bottom?
Thank you! I followed your guide and managed to get my hard drive upgraded to a 1tb! But one thing that i could use help with is moving my xbmc to the F partition. It is currently located in my E partition which is basically full. How can i move xbmc to the F partition which is much larger?
So I got to where the chimp loaded version 1.01 starts. It says booting chimp Boot: loading kernal'/apps/chimp/linuxx267 Boot: loading United '/apps/chimp/initrd.gz at the right of those it says ok. And at the bottom it says starting chimp 261812. I didnt get the screen you got and I'm stuck on this screen.
Just switch to the original AV Composite cable if you get a blank screen with Chimp. Had blank screen on mine when using RGB/RW component cable but OK with original AV cable. Works fine with RGB/RW cable when modded.
I got it to work, however cloning the harddrive went really fast, I see it erased my games I putted on the hard drive, but when checking the partitions it says all 749MB is that right? Or did I do Something wrong? I got an 500gb WD drive
When you format the drive what are you choosing for partition? For 500gb you should only need to use 1 or 2 partitions F drive for games. I suggest cloning again and starting again. 500gb ide or sata? If ide check your jumpers
I did an 2tb upgrade but my C says it has 484mb E 4,881mb F says 123,408mb X y and Z 749,89mb That's not 2TB. Did I do something wrong? And can you reformat?
@10:00 when you launch the extras disc and it shows the initializing screen followed by the retail 5838 bios screen and then the extras disc menu…. Mine shows initializing and then the retail bios 5838 screen, but gets stuck on that retail bios screen and never actually pulls up the extras disc menu… any ideas or help would be much appreciated!
I noticed most of the HDD space is spread over F and G. Is that correct or should you not have a main partition with most of the space for games. Is there a reason for this?
Not sure if I’ve done something wrong but when I scanned for ide drives (it’s a sata in my case) the serial and model number showed as a load of random numbers and letters. I continued anyway and it seems to be transferring very slow. Won’t go above 2.6 MiB’s per second. Says it’s gonna take over an hour? My original hard drive had over 4gb free…
Hi so I have an ide hdd 160 gb on my xbox currently and I've been trying to use this method to upgrade to a 500 gb sata hdd. I can get everything to clone which takes about 6 hours because I have alot of games on my hdd. Once it clones the hdd locks successfully. I go ahead and replace it making sure the jumpers are correct and when I turn on the xbox I get the service required screen. I ve tried this several times and no luck. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Trying to upgrade a 2tb sata drive. I load into boot switch cables, hit A and i hit the chimp logo screen with 3 dots. Then at the bottom it is in Green loading chimp. I've wait about 15mins and it never goes anywhere.
Look up.. Need to use original AV composite cable (RWY/Scart) with Chimp. Can't use RGB/RG Component cable/HDMI adapter until Xbox is modded. Blank screen with Chimp otherwise.
@@David-Cope I'm using all original oem cords. Still does the same thing. It's all right. I've figure it out. It was the drive. Not compatible. The date was wrong. So i updated my drive in the compatability list.
I have a situation of trace damage on on Xbox that has been softmodded and has a hard drive with a lot in it. Is it possible to swap the motherboard but keep the disk data intact by changing the motherboard ID on the drive?
Trace damage can be solved if u find where trace leads to and solder a wire from one end on the back of the mobo. I feel like that should work but the mobo id on drive will have to match mobo of xbox
Find the extras disc zip file and in it should have a note that says "place the extras iso here". Do that then FTP the zip file to your E drive. To start it on Xbox go to file explorer and click default.xbe, youll always use default.xbe to launch a game or program
im getting stuck at booting chimp 261812... anyone have a idea. Tried multiple different drives all on the list to work. But all getting stuck at the same place. P.S Dont have a working cd drive
