Mojang keeps updating and supporting one of the biggest games of all time. They aren't exactly sitting on their asses doing nothing. Pretty sure they are doing a decent bit by raking in millions upon millions of dollars.

That's a terrible idea, unless you want them to kill their ability to sell any console ever again. If devs were actually wringing all they could out of the machine and coming up short it would be one thing, but they aren't. Not a single game has come out that actually uses the RDNA2 featureset built into both machines, most of which are specifically meant to *save on RAM usage*. As for games "being held back," the only example anyone can point to is Baldur's Gate 3, and that is due to the peculiar set of circumstances surrounding the game itself - it was designed for PC, and is still using DX11, more than 8 years after DX12 came out with many features that would allow them to cut down on RAM usage. The fact is that textures make up the vast majority of RAM usage for nearly every game, and 4k textures are 4x the file size of 1080p textures, and more than twice the size of 1440p textures (see Jedi Survivor, which came in at 44 GB on Series S and 140 GB on Series X).

@@ScubaSnacks How do you know that BG3 is only game to have issues? That's not what has been reported. There are a couple different dev teams that have said Similar things, but have been blown off as having a Sony bias. Along with, "rumors," devs don't like having to build games with 2 different systems on 1 platform. The Xbone one S and Series S were kind of an experiment. Phil and Xbox thought offering a cheaper version of the console, along side their more expensive, more beefy console, would lead to more people buying into the Xbox Eco system. That has basically been proven false. And overall it may have worked in selling more consoles to simply charge less money for the X. Which would mean losing more money per console, but ultimately more people bought a PS5 at $400. And with having games also available on PC, which I think is a great thing, tbh, they reduced the need for people to get a S or X, as well. Now, Xbox didn't foresee Covid, and all the supply issues that was going to create. And it certainly hurt Series X sales. I could have gotten an S, fairly close to the S and X releasing. But I didn't want an S, and I didn't want to pay almost double or slightly less than double for an X. So it took me close to a year to get my X. Literally 3 days, shy of 365 days of launch. And I've been an early new generation/premium guy, forever. I also have also typically bought the more expensive console offered. I bought the black 360 elite console, and initially bought an OG Xbox one, but upgraded to a Scorpion when made available. Had Covid not hurt supply chains, would have had an X within a week of launch. I guess what I'm trying to say is I believe I'm one of many who would prefer to have the beefiest console of every generation, and doesn't want a lesser console, from a company that demands all, "NEW," IPs be playable on both, negatively impacting, holding back, or leading to games completely skipping my console of choice.

Even CEO Swen Vinke of Larian Studios himself said that, and I quote, "I don't think the Series S is holding back gaming," but rather that it simply takes more work to develop for. If even the BG3 devs are saying the Series S isn't holding gaming back, then who are you to say that the Series S is holding gaming back?

Dude, Jez literally says at 1:13:05 that he has put an absurd amount of hours into Starfield already. And Rand says earlier in the podcast that he's been playing Starfield every day. You think if the game was trash he would be doing that? Also at 1:21:40 Jez literally says that "there's a lot of good stuff going on at Xbox" and that he's "pretty excited for the future of Xbox." Again, if Starfield was mediocre or was trash, do you think Jez would say he's excited about the future of Xbox?

What? Jez literally also says earlier in the podcast that he expects that Starfield woll do really well in sales. If he thought Starfield was trash, he wouldn't say that.

selling boxes is not the metric for xbox, if you take phil at his word. they want engagement of their games and services on whichever platform you prefer. just as Nintendo does its own thing, Xbox is now doing its own thing..

@@johncollins9438 I totally agree. Was just a little surprised that some would be surprised that Xbox is not selling as well as before when all their games are now on PC. Especially with how big PC gaming has become. For the reasons you mention I think Xbox consoles will still be around a long time, to provide that option, but unless something terrible happens in the PC space I can't see Xbox console numbers suddenly surging upwards and beyond vs last gen or anything like that.

Xbox hasn’t any unit sellers tho this gen. Starfield will definitely move Xbox units even if it’s on pc. The amount of Sony people I know buying an Xbox as well just for starfield is huge. And then IF Xbox delivers in 2024 they will close the gap with Sony more so when it comes to units sales. Pc gaming is still niche compared to how many people own consoles in the world

Not everyone can afford a PC, for one, and two, PC ports aren't as consistent as console ports have been recently. There have been more awful PC ports lately than bad console ports.
