To be fair they did re-staff 343 and they're now doing a bit better with Halo infinite's management, but as a Halo fan I feel like it's a bit too little too late. It's kind of weird that Microsoft would want to kill off a potential new franchise but keep a franchise that they've been running through the mud on the world's cheapest life support.
I'm now very worried for Id Software. It would be beyond tragic for the studio that made freaking Doom, and is still making great games despite all of the founders leaving the company, to get shut down due to corporate mismanagement.
It’s not that shocking. 343 has a live service game and are likely profitable. Yeah they ruined the Halo franchise but since when do corporations care about that?
"I HAVE AN IDEA! Maybe we should make small fun games for Xbox that are like Hi-Fi Rush! 😃 Even though we just straight up betrayed and killed the very studio who made Hi-Fi Rush... 😅😓..." Matt Booty-hole said with nervousness and sarcasm leaking from the corners of his mouth like hastily stolen cake...
Betrayal is a weird word to use when it comes to an employee. Microsoft didn't swear allegiance to this studio. How were they betrayed? Killed sure. Also, I'm not exactly sure what he said word for word, but even if he did say that again, you're acting like they swore this on some sort of sacred Tome of the gods and that they could never change their mind or their strategy. This is basically the same thing PlayStation said when they axed the Days gone sequel and IP. Nobody seemed to care about that. Nobody seem to care when PlayStation said they want to focus on just their big games.
I really wish people were willing to explore WHY this happened & so over dramatizing the other rumors so much. It seems clear to me Satya Nadella has inserted himself & is calling the shots over Phil. And the reason why is because of all the acquisitions. Xbox has become so massive now, it almost doubles Windows in revenue.
I get Microsoft needed to crack the whip on some of their studios, but Tango? They literally released the best Microsoft game last year. They should have axed 343 before axing Tango
@@bubsy3861They still wanted to grow their brand into Japan,so if they close their only Japanese studio what does this actually accomplish, oh right nothing
Yet there were people last year who were saying Microsoft should get Nintendo because Nintendo can't survive on their own. They need to be owned by Microsoft. Now we can clap back and say that Nintendo won't survive under Microsoft.
Honestly, if there's anything I was hoping and many other people were hoping from Xbox acquiring Activision Blizzard, we were hoping that they would just release old Call of Duty game's on Gamepass, Imagine how happy people would be with Xbox if they did that!? Xbox should've just released the old Call of Duty game's on Xbox GamePass! If they do that people will be like "WOW! NOSTALGIA! I REMEMBER THOSE GAMES! AND THEY WERE GREAT GAMES! AND I CAN PLAY THEM AGAIN FOR A VERY LOW PRICE TO PAY... YAY! I CAN FINALLY GO BACK TO MY CHILDHOOD!"
Well here comes more lay offs for Activision and Blizzard. Others I could see but it is unlikely but could happen. Mahjong studios, ninja theory, Compulsion Games (because of SBI). Here a few couple safe bets I do not see layoffs; Arcane Studios, inXile Entertainment, ID software, Bethesda, Obsidian Entertainment, Double Fine Productions, and Machine Games.
I’m more fine with increased price in gamepass than I am with companies closing down. Don’t like it but gamepass is still easily the best deal in gaming.
7:20 tbh I'm kinda glad gamepass is failing. I do not want streaming services to be the future of gaming like netflix is. I want to own and keep full access to the products I pay for, not rent them and have them be taken away so easily. 12:50 hifi rush would've sold better if xbox didn't shadow drop it and actually marketed it.
I never understand the first thing you said, if it leaves game pass and you like the game, then you can buy it. At least you get to play things first to see if you like it
I can’t speak for Microsoft, Xbox or Xbox fans but to me, it sounds Microsoft only wants the studios they have to make Online Multiplayer games and if studios so much as say they want to make a Single Player story driven game, they’ll close them down.
And yet there's that people think that Microsoft can be trusted owning Nintendo. Look at Tango Gameworks and those other 3 studios. Sounds like they can't be trusted.
Are people blind? MS made the most "powerful" console in history so they dont have to use said power... Halo went from an epic space opera to a shitty live service game that lost the Halo identity, and did not use the series x "power" They stoped trying after 360... why did people think ms bought ABK just to keep spending more money on expensive projects... No, they did all this to keep some assets and going to cut everything that does not make them huge profits... so mobile will be the "assets"
As someone who's a pc guy nowadays but grew up on xbox and still actually likes xbox, this is a massive L. It's undoubtedly the biggest L xbox has taken in recent years and I bet it's only going to get worse from here. :(
I think its more like MICROSOFT shuts down studios. Its obvious that it came from the top level. They obsess with ai now a days and want all money possible intro it.
calling it right now obsidian and ninja theory is the next studios microsoft will close down to me the gamepass strategy is not working and the developers are paying the price
Here's something you may not know about Microsoft: They only hire employees for 18 months in order to avoid paying benefits. So every one and a half years, the entire dev team for a project gets cycled out and the new people have to spend 6 months getting up to speed on the tools, development pipeline, and what the previous team was even working on. Explains why Xbox hasn't had a good first party game in so long, with Hi-Fi Rush being the only real exception, and why Game Pass has been stagnant for so long. This is what happens when corporations never plan beyond the next quarterly earnings report.
Although I like game pass game pass is not helping I used to argue with PlayStation Fanboys over game pass it turns out they were correct about game pass even though I like a game pass
It's especially ironic when you consider that Hi-Fi Rush's narrative is supposed to be criticizing the gaming industry, as well as companies like Microsoft.
I would also like to point out that PlayStation gave the same reasoning for why they weren't doing a sequel to days gone. Cuz they wanted to focus on big game releases. And you might want to argue that an entire studio is not the same as a IP. But when the studio you close down is only thought of as good for one IP then it's basically the same thing.
Prey is still an absolute amazing game and if they just developed more games like that rather than making games that they don't like to make like Redfall, I could see the studio being just as good as Lyon.
@@gabethehalfling5253 I adored Prey and wasnt knocking Arkane Austin at all, I actually didnt even hate Redfall tbh. But I dont think theyre anywhere near in the same class as Arkane Lyon
@@gabethehalfling5253 I don't know if this is true, but I had heard development of Redfall was going so poorly, Arkane Austin was legitimately hoping Microsoft would just cancel the game after the acquisition.
I'm so pissed off over this news the $70 billion Activision brought I think that's the reason why I was excited for this by now I'm not they should have just left this buy alone
I think a lot of people are blowing this up simply because tango. Remove them from the equation and I don't think people will be this upset. But what I think microsoft means in terms of success is pushing game passage scriptions and sales numbers. If Hi Fi was at successful monetarily, then why did it get pushed to the PlayStation before its first year out? I really don't think Hi Fi made a lot of money. I'm sure after the success of starfield and the amount of people who love The Fallout TV show and are now playing old follow games. The people in charge of Xbox are probably wanting Bethesda's main titles, such as starfield, elder scrolls and fallout to be pushed and milked far more often than having one single game every 10 years. Hence the reprioritization towards bethesda's big games.
