XCom Enemy Within | Base Under Attack Cutscene *Spoiler* 

Everyone's saying how badass Bradford is, but that other guy sure kept his cool and remained at his station unlike his fleeing comrades.

During the base defense, is when I met a valiant XCOM Base Security member. Jenkins, as he was named, has been an unforgettable companion, showing up from the beginning, never missing his shot, and never being hit. He alone proved superior to XCOM rookies. But then, at the end of the mission, while out of cover, he bravely held the line, dodging simultaneously fire from a muton, sectoid commander and a sectopod, before he fell to fire from a cyberdisc. He fell, taking on enemy fire so that nobody else could get hurt, and after getting kills on more aliens than my actual XCOM troops, he sacrificed himself for the team. He was a true hero. 10/10 Would experience again

Surprising enough, despite the amount of things that blow up both in the cutscene and the battle, not one dollar needs to go into repair costs.

I had no idea this was coming and it really got to me. I was playing on Ironman and so I was terrified that I'd been too slow or something and that I'd failed. I was actually really invested when Bradford was fighting for his life. When he managed to defend himself and get ahold of that gun I lit up. I knew we had a chance. Damn good cutscene.

I really got to say that this is the MOST epic scene in the game. I was overreacting to this, felt like I was watching a movie o.o

Definitely one of this biggest "Oh shit!" Moments in Xcom, next to the Fishing Village mission, and the first Terror attack before laser weapons.

This.. completely took me by surprise. I knew about it, I've seen the trailer yet I had no clue it'd be so sudden, and epic too. Lost like, 4 of the special security units, and my Colonel Sniper :< but XCOM wasn't shut down, so yay?

This totally took me by surprise. I knew that base defense was part of the package, but I just didn't expect it to happen so cinematically. It happened about 2 weeks after I assaulted the Alien base and captured their Sectoid Commander and Hyperwave Relay.

Blowing up the Skyranger made me so irrationally angry. Really made this feel personal. And the chills at the end... My heart-rate was crazy and my hands were literally shaking realizing the situation, that failure was not an option here. One of the best moments in gaming I've ever experienced. Also my dumb crush for Central leveled up so hard after this lmao. Good times.

I love how this mission simply came out of nowhere and the feeling of panic. Once my MEC troopers appeared, it was go time!

Jesus Bradford does not take shit from ANYBODY. Always made me wonder what his background was to make him so awesome.

this was awesome and terrifying to watch. And central really gives you the feeling the shit is going down after all the hours of work you put into that base

Easily my favorite mission in XCOM. Though it was extremely tense and my people barely survived (can't say the same for the rookie security). Especially since I use the *make items available* button, so my assault arrived with default armor and shotgun

I remember getting so pumped in my seat when this event happened on my playthrough. That closing clip where the bay door slowly opens and you can hear the ominous chattering of sectiods from beyond the threshold. XCOM was great, even by today's standards.

I'd like to imagine Central dual wielding Arc throwers while you were out protecting Delta Section. Shame we failed the base defense given XCOM 2's plot, the sheer image of Bradford kicking ass would have been a sight to see.

Reminds me so much of Mass Effect 2 when your ship gets suddenly hacked, and boarded while you are gone. Complete epic surprise and shock that you didn't expect or prepared for. Which I sincerely loved :D

After watching the Xcom 2 Avenger defense cut scene all I could think of was how much better this was compared to it. God this was a good cut scene.

as awesome as this was, imagine if bradford was playable for this one mission. he'd have a pistol, a green sweater, and he'd be extremely pissed off. (to avoid continuity issues, his character could never die ... if his health reached 0, he'd be critically wounded)

When that door opened, my only reaction was "oh shit..."

seeing bradford react as fast as he did really makes me think he may have some sort of future vision...i wonder if there really is a Project Stardust

I barely managed to get away with this when I first played it. It caught me completely off guard (working as intended?) and many rookies and disposable guards got killed

That door in the end looks like it opens from the middle made me laugh when it just went up instead.

At the beginning i thought EXALT has infiltrated my HQ... Actually i think fighting EXALT on that mission would be cooler

The worst of all was that the best soldiers were very badly injured and he only had recruits and the occasional rookie sniper

The XCOM Base defense and in XCOM 2 Avenger defense missions are still hype as fuck and gets your adrenaline really pumping... loving it!

If you guys like the base defebse concept you should try the long war mod. Base defense isn't just a one time thing there(not saying the original base defense is bad its just that its more of a plot device) along with new classes for soldiers,new weapons and gadgets,and new gameplay mechanics

Xcom: You picked the wrong house fool!

I lost a Security Guard, Shaojie “Chilong” Zhang, and one of my best Mec Troopers during this base assault. I should be mad about it, but it honestly made my campaign a lot more epic than it should be!

Ok i have to admit FIRFAX YA'LL NEED TO MAKE A 30 MINUTE MOVIE. i dont know just as epic as this! just when was going on i did not know this would happen.....i knew like "Great now we have to fight these guys." BUT THEY SEND MORE ALIENS THEN WHAT YOU RECEIVE IN NORMAL BATTLES! EVERY ROUND IT IS ALWAYS 3 OR 4 ALIENS TO YOU AND THEY ARE THE BIG ONES! but the end scene where looking at the door then it just popped open just gives me chills....its like a guy with a big loud deep voice saying "GET READY!"

Man, I was super nervous during this scene cause I just put most of my main troops to enhance or something and I only had my reserve troops and a bunch of noobs. Man, that was a tense battle!

aaaanddd after the 70% destruction inside the base, the ship, the workshop and everything went back to normal

Oh man, the first time in base defense I got wrecked so bad... One of my main guys was wearing crappy armor and LMG... I had no idea where the drop points would be so my positioning was pretty bad, I got punched in the face several times by brutes landing too close to me... lost my best heavy in the first minutes when I got swarmed by 3 disks (he bravely blew a chunk of their health away in his final stand, before getting his head shot off).. in the end, I had 3 guys left and 1 MEC all pretty banged up vs a shitload of aliens... my assault got mind controlled and that was the end of everything...his sniper girlfriend committed suicide, MEC malfunctioned and support missed her over 80% shot.. XCOM was lost :( Luckily, even on Ironman it let me restart the mission afterwards and then I managed a clean sweep with all my guys surviving and in good health even :)

Get the F buttons out for all of our Rk Standard Security reinforcements. These guys may be the cannon fodder of the defense force, but they are definitely the types that’ll leave the enemy singed enough to do actual damage.

The soundtrack in this along with Bradford fighting was absolutely badass.

I still get pumped at that ending of the cutscene. Like. All that scrambling, panic, and 'HOLY SHIT ALIENS BREACHING THE DOOR' and the door has the AUDACITY to just. *pop* I don't know why but that combined with the aliens doing their hello right after just makes me want to beat the shit out of them. I mean for FUCK sake they pissed off Bradford.

I was surprised so much when seen it first time.

This mission alone in my opinion is 10x better then the base defense mission in xcom 2

I love how the scene shows the globe flickering, The torch of Humanity resistance is about to be snuff out, it's up to you Commander.

Micheal McCann did such a good job with the music in this game.

Yeah, yeah, Bradford is badass and all... But what that cutscene doesn't show you is how the comander appeared from his (or her) office with a bazooka and said "say hello to my little friend" before launching a full scale explosive rampage, yelling "WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY ABOUT EXPLOSIVES NOW, HERR DOKTOR?!"

It was this moment I knew, I fucked up. I think half of my team was being upgraded or healed and I mostly had support units no big tank or anti-tank units. I actually stopped playing afterwards cause I couldn't find a way to stop all the enemies from absolutely destroying me. The rookies literally didnt do any damage so I had like 2/3 useful soldiers and end up reloading if any of my elite team members died. I also was taking my team researching on separate branch at the same time instead of focusing on one.

If only my PS3 hadn’t decided to hang not long after this cutscene... (Apparently the patch has a bug that breaks the base invasion... wtf?)

... and that's why they keep Bradford around.

This is why Bradford doesn’t take to the field too often; it must get tiring, carrying around those brass balls.

Ah, Base Defense (Classic)- i made it after third attempt, with losing 6-7 agents (including these security) and one of my MEC trooper (luckily MEC armor wasn't lost) was one of fallen. Damn you, Sectopods!

Still the coolest cutscene

In canon this battle is the last for Xcom because the base was overrun with alien. Bratford, Vahlen and Shen live, and some soldiers from xcom scape, like the psionic rooke who appearse in Chimera Squad or the CEM pilot girls. But in canon we lost, and all of the investagion of Shen change to make a guardian for her child Lili. Vahlen is missing state. And Bratford is drinking alot.

So in the "official" canon, this is when Xcom was destroyed and fled... The fall of Earth, before the events of Xcom 2

i love the security guys it gives you. i would always just put them out of cover in vulnerable positions whenever my special guys were at risk at the aliens would always shoot them.

spoiler alert : if we follow the canon story, actualy the XCOM soldiers failed to defend the base because many of its personel got mind controlled they fell because got attacked from all direction, both from aliens and from their own, in the middle of chaos, muton capture the commander, Vahlen is missing, but Shen and Bradford manage to get away, while Shen reached his daughter and go into hiding, Bradford manage to reach one of the resistance group and goes into hiding as the council surrender to alien, Shen taugh his daughter everything he know before passing away, and while go into guerrila warfare, Bradford got contact from spokesman, its revealed that one of the council still loyal to the cause and act as mole inside newly formed ADVENT administration, from there he knows that commander is actualy survive, then Bradford gather the resistance and reformed XCOM, not as a world backed elite paramilitary group, but as a underfunded resistance group that will rise to fight back

My only disappointment is that we only got to use a few of our squad members rather than deploying our entire team...and the fact that none of the stage took place in any cutscenes of the game.

Kinda wish that the base assault was initiated by EXALT rather than aliens. Actually, i wish EXALT got more love in general cuz even though they seemed pretty badass conceptually, they were ultimately pretty throwaway with the stuff they have.
