I think what most people don't understand about this game. It's an old school style game with a few modern aspects. It's not suppose to be flashy. It focuses on the roots of the FPS genre. Which is the gameplay. Which most modern FPS games these days just fail at. I think people are just so use to this "modern style" of FPS games. That it just doesn't feel right to them. xdefiant gameplay, weapon and movement mechanics are very similar to OG MW2. When I played the Open Beta last summer that was the very first thing that jumped out at me. This is why a lot of OG CoD (pre-blackops) players enjoy this game. It's something we know and love. But also adds in a few hero abilities to satisfy the newer generation of FPS players since flashy abilities is all they know. Personally I think it would be a better game without the hero abilities. People are so use to FPS games being so fast, taking no time running across the map, super jumping left right and center. Basically going full arcade mode. Then they play a game with a more realistic speed. Like all the old FPS games. It feels out of wack. I think the newer generation of players and the old ones who are just so use to the new style of gameplay. Just have to get use to the old school mechanics to enjoy the game. Not to mention the maps are way to small for them to increase movement speed. The netcode still has issues, the maps could be a bit bigger. There is a few other things that could be done better. But everyone has to remember. This is Ubisoft's first multiplayer FPS game. Mark Rubin is most likely the only one on the team with experience in this sub-genre. Mark Rubin is mainly known for CoD 4, OG MW2 & OG MW3. Hence the feel of the game. But that being sad we are extremely overdue for an FPS like this. CoD is trash now, BF has been a bust. Games like OW, Valerent, Apex, etc. are just fancy arcade shooters that realistically should be in their own little sub-genre.
Ive been playing all the tests as well and after so long of a break between this one and the one before it. I don't remember the game being soo slow. I'm morbidly obese and could run faster than my character in this game.
Kinda have mixed feelings of this game not to mention some people aren't too happy with how the game is currently. But ultimately I think it'll be a great game at launch.
If the game'd been released sooner, it would've been way more successful since the need to escape from COD was at its peak. But now, in the next few months, this is likely going to be another Hyper Scape.
