Consider the possibility of a completely identical solar system and earth somewhere out there. The only difference is that this other earth has a delayed start of 0.01%. The age of the universe is estimated around 14 billion years. That fraction of a percent delay is a 1.4 million years of difference. Our species has only been around for about 200,000 years old. So it will still be another 1.2 million years before this hypothetical twin earth can wait in the queue.

You comment on time in interesting, made me think of how we perceive it. The Stegosaurus lived between 155 and 150 million years ago. T Rex lived between 68 and 66 million years ago. 150-68=82 million years. That means the gap between Stegosaurus and T rex is ~16 million years greater than between T Rex and present day.

Oh cool! This video mentions Oumuamua! That object is interesting as fuck, he didn't mention how many different theories went through it though. Some believed it may have been ice but it did not melt as close to the sun as it got and all that. Some even believed it to be a ship travelling across galaxies. Or that it was something that got launched or a piece that got broken off a planet. I love that thing, it's completely mysterious, no answers for what it is, there is only assumptions!

A silent universe is the best and worst outcome. If we indeed are alone in the universe, then the only things we need to worry about if self imploding or natural apocalypse. If we find evidence of once living civilizations, then what killed them? And do we really want to find out. Finding a type 2 civilization would be an extremely dangerous discovery. Theres no reason to assume they wouldn't be hostile, if they aren't then it would imply a revolutionary dicovery that will(depending on the alien civilization) propel the human race to new height never before imagined. And if theyre not friendly, then the best we can do is pray our end is swift and painless. Humanity isn't even a type 1 civilization. As of now, we still dont harness 100% of the earths energy. To put it into perspective, we are the equivalent of an uninterrupted primitive civilizaton you find when playing Stellaris.

Isn't it bold of humans to assume an intelligent life can last more than 10 thousand years? We're literally in the most volatile period of our history. One wrong move could doom our civilization to fail and go extinct. In order for 2 civilizations to make contact they have to intersect both in time and space. I'm sure someone has done the math, but that just seems very unlikely. That self replicating probe thing looks promising though, we need to get in on that.

Scientists used to cling to the idea that all planets could host life, but we've been shown time and time again in our own solar system that life is fragile and requires specific conditions to form. Other solar systems aren't going to magically have different laws of physics.

I'm willing to bet that our efforts to contact "alien" life succeeded, but then those aliens decided to look at our species before saying anything and seeing our fractured little world and how we treat even other humans... probably decided that we aren't good neighbors yet. Dark Forest hypothesis where anytime a civilization "speaks up" in space to try and find others or get attention they end up getting destroyed as other civilizations are afraid of or don't want competition. Similar to being in a jungle and constantly shouting out into the darkness. Eventually something is going to find you and eat you.

Hostile life is definitely a big possibility with us at a massive technological disadvantage. AI that has superseded it's creators or hive mind intelligent bugs will likely see us as little more than curious ants to be studied and exterminated at will.
