Thanks to Owen Templin, Captain Heropon, Montymoo, Ljg144, @HHujsson, Norwegian pandas, @enokek, Jack McLay, Tanush Korde, @tooneric771, Disconnected, and many others in the RU-vid comments recently for recommending this song to me! I haven't gotten around to playing XC2 yet, so I wouldn't have known of this awesome song if it weren't for you awesome folks! If you've got a request for me, let me know here! bit.ly/insaneintherainrequests Next video: Sonic returns!
I play the bassoon, and while usually I see it as a bad thing (due to not being recognized and often overlooked and all that), performances like these make me proud to be one of the few that play it. Great job on this one!
Hayden Stiegman So you're going to find a lot of middle school/early high school music doesn't have good bassoon parts. Usually they are doubled with trombone, euph, tuba, bari/tenor sax, just playing stuff not idiomatic of bassoon in situations not orchestrated for the bassoon to come through clearly. This is because it makes music more accessible to school bands and helps publishers sell more. So you have to do a lot of true bassoon research on your own. Find great music written for bassoon, listen to the excerpts in orchestral and band pieces, wind quintets, and let your band director know that you're a decent bassoonist and get him to choose better music
Bassoonify I’ll keep that in mind! My band director’s son is actually an all-state bassoonist, so I feel I may get a little more lucky in the coming years. (Which also means steeper expectations, but I’m rising to the challenge!... after marching season 😅)
Thank you so much for letting me be a part of this!! This is an incredible arrangement from start to finish, so many powerful moments! Michael and Dan, you guys absolutely killed it as usual. Carlos, you never fail to impress me. What a dream to play in such a great project alongside my friends!
I swore to myself that I wouldn’t listen to this arrangement until I finished Xenoblade Chronicles 2...and I finally did so two nights ago. Roaming the Wastes is one of my favorite of the game’s overworld tracks, possibly one of my favorites in all my life, so listening to this before and after reading about your Hero’s Journey structure was such a blast! I especially liked the Ordeal and Return with Elixir sections. Basing your arrangements on a literary form is pretty unique, as far as I’m aware, and I hope that this kind of creativity appears more not just from you, but other modern arrangers and composers
Gotta say, I love it when arrangements work their own extra touches into a theme, and the way you built this one around the classic Hero's Journey is really cool. You took (arguably) the best song in Xenoblade 2 in a very different and unique way! Props, from one musician to another. The way you set up the back and forth "battle" between the woodwinds and saxes actually makes me want to see what you'd do with He of the Name, one of the boss themes from Bravely Default. That entire piece is built around that idea!
Delzethin I just wanted to let you know that saxes are woodwinds, too! I’m an Alto Sax player. All instruments that use reeds are woodwinds. Either way, i agree that the back and forth was cool!
I would say that's more Bravely Default honestly. Not only is it made by Square Enix themselves, but it feels like a modern classic Final Fantasy if that makes any sense. Although, Xenoblade 1 def. gives me some FF12 vibes.
@RevolvingWorld That's not hard to do. XV is a bottom tier FF Game above only the XIII trilogy and X-2, and maybe 1, 2 and 3 based on your perspective. Xenoblade stacks up against the best Final Fantasy's on any given day, comparing it to fodder like XV is just unfair, lol.
Nothing compares to the fascination of discovering the islands and music of Xenoblade 2. The world is so beautiful and the music is stuck in my head. Not for being catchy, but for evoking a peculiar feeling inside me. And all of you great musicians are helping me discovering something I love a lot again. Thanks for your hard work!
This is a very cool arrangement! Before I read the description, I thought to myself that this arrangement was a lot different than your usual arranging style (outside of the double reeds and flute, which were lovely!), and after I read that I heard the arc you described really well! Really interesting way to tackle your arrangement.
Damn that was hot. Really enjoy the complex arrangements and, in this video, the unique instrumentation. Double reed players were killing it. Really cool hearing those timbres in this context. Would really love to hear some Carlossified Streets of Rage music with unique instrumentation and complex harmonies. DO YOU ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE? ;-)
Either Stage 1 from the first game (Fighting in the Street) or the credits song (My Little Baby). Don't think the latter has ever been performed with real instruments on RU-vid.
So i had this song stuck in my head for ages at some point this week, here we go again... Not that I'm complaining, this cover did the amazing song (eye of shining) justice. Wonder what we can expect next? An *ultimate* cover of a brand new song, perhaps? I'm eager to sE3 what's coming whatever the case!
DON'T FORGET ME! Okay but seriously, really nice cover of this song btw. It's one of my personal favorites from the game and I'm glad that you were able to get to it someday. Thank you!
Loving your sounds. Also I love how instruments don't have to support each other. They have the same or similar sounds so nice take. You earned yourself a like
Woah, a Bassoon? That's really cool for implementing two Double Reeds into the arrangement. As a Bassoonist, I respect you even more than before and I hope you keep implementing "uncommon" instruments in wacky and amazing ways.
2:27 Oof, that part with the flute and oboe just doing that bizarre, minor-sounding version of the medley just makes it so much better. It kind of reminds me of the crisis that the Empire of Mor Ardaim was going through during the time that Rex and the gang was there. Really well done, mate!
Yeah! I thought it would be pretty interesting to incorporate a plot structure on this arrangement! I've always thought that arranging is a lot like storytelling, but I never tried to derive an arrangement from a pre-existing plot structure... it was a fun thing to try!
C A R L O S Y E S goddamn this was so good! Everything from the winds to the incredbile middle section and the balancing was SO GOOD. Incredible, i love this song so much and i love love LOVE ur take on it
Ahhh this cover makes me so happy!! Thank you so much for doing this, this might be my favorite arrangement from you now! (Dark World was my previous favorite)
It came like a crushing electrical magnetic force, all my arms bristle are shocked. When I first stepped inside Mor Ardain I knew this game would be killer. 300h of XC2, and Torna fully completed. Anxiously waiting for XC Definitive Edition since I did not have the opportunity to play it on Wii when it was launched. Thanks for this brilliant music adaptation, all of you are great musicians, gonna sub and check all your videos.
Wow, I am absolutely amazed! This was one of my favorite songs from XC2, and you did an amazing job with it! It’s also incredible how you were able to incorporate the hero’s journey of all things into this. I am blown away. Keep up the awesome work!
As both a tenor sax jazz musician and a classical oboist, I love this mix so much. Not to mention it's already one of my favorite tracks from one of my favorite games! Awesome job! This made my whole week!
This couldn't have come out at a better time since the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Challenge DLC came out last Friday, and I have been binge-playing the game again. This has got to be one of your best works, next to your Cynthia and Big Blue covers. Keep up the good work!
Your arrangements sound as great as ever, and I just discovered your extensive descriptions on each song and how you wrote them, which are a joy to read as well. Keep it up man!
I really enjoyed this one as well. It was refreshing to see a calmer take on this theme, as it's originally very boisterous, and gives you that sense of adventure. But this cover was much more relaxed, but not too chill. It also had such an array of different instruments that I wouldn't really associate jazz with, but somehow work quite well! Keep up the impressive work!
Wow, this was so good. The layering of all the different instruments, especially in the beginning is just the best kind of overwhelming. I love this game and the music from it and this is just...damn.
Absolutely amazing! I admire you so much, tbh you are one of the reasons I began to make covers of my own ( I'm also thinking of buying a saxophone too)
Simply amazing! Your arrangements always blow me away. Thank u for all the videos you come out with, and even to the people you collaborate with. ❤️🔥☺️🐻🔥🔥🔥🙌🏻
Great to see woodwind instruments! And love what you wrote in the description box! It's amazing how much effort and creativity you put into one arrangement!
Your bass guitar and your tenor sax are so cool! I wish I had a tenor and a baritone, I’m currently playing alto but I started on a pretty bad tenor, I love the videos keep it up!
Got Xenoblade Chronicles 2 a while ago and when i first arrived in Mor Ardain and heard the theme i thought "Damn! Insaneintherain should make a jazz cover of this!". Awesome work, as always!
This is probably in my top 10 of your songs. I LOVE bassoon so much. Double reed in jazz is amazing. Also, I love the hero's journey format! It's really unique.
Ouuuuuug I like this one ! I really like the effect of the beat with the saxophones (and the little solos are awesome ;3) and the flute that is more dealicate and high, it gives an effect really interesting !
Omg I been playing through Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and I made it to this area and fell in love with this song! I was hoping you would make an arrangement on it and I got to say this doesn't disappoint. Your take on this song is just amazing! All of you guys were just awesome!
