For everyone wondering, no he did not "lose" his goggles. In the game when you equip stuff it will change your appearance and that includes cutscenes. so in the Wii game play he just have a headgear equipped.
Yeah it's great that there are no pre rendered cutscenes in this game, all your equipment changes are always represented in every scene =) although it's a little weird sometimes when a character has a flashback and they are wearing what you have currently equipped ='D
Trakker1985 It would be cool if they were able to change that, so that in the flashbacks, the characters will be wearing what you had equipped them with at the time.
@@Trakker1985 they dont wear what you have currently equipped. I know for sure, because in a very tragic cutscence at the beginning of the game my shulk wore bathing trunks and it ruined every flashback for me
@Jung Daniel during the first chapter, Fiora brings Shulk some food, including a sandwich. Thanks to high quality Wii animations, he doesn't actually eat it, he just shoves his face into it. The same thing happens in the second cutscene of XC2.
@@Abbaschand Al Weaver was a good actor. Here's the thing. The dub was rushed for a worldwide release, sacrificing in proper direction for the English cast, which is why everyone's acting falls apart through out the game. It wasn't just Rex. Everybody sucked because it's clear they had to do their lines with barely any context, direction or reference.
It still impresses me how they managed to pack such a well directed game as big as Xenoblade on the wii. The only thing that was holding the game back was graphics. But now, it’s REYN TIME IN HD BABY!!!
The only thing that held it back for me was „Youaa jusst a banch of Jouuuukaaas“. I know they tried to have actual english accents but I couldnt stand it especially repeated so often
If you look closely at Alvis, you can see he used to have that key with him, but now he has a core crystal with him instead. You know what that means. Also, the graphics look WAY better on the Switch than on the Wii. I'm seriously excited to get this game once it officially releases.
For anyone that is going to play this game for the first time, avoid reading comments or whatching videos on the game. The story is awesome and its so easy to get MAJOR spoilers in comment sections of this trailer.

The way I see port/remaster/remake is: Port: Make a game work on any other device other than the original release So technically, it's the widest net. Everything (remaster/remake) are a port. Remaster: A port that is slightly better looking than the original. Usually it refers to the ones that comes with a better defined texture to make the graphics looks sharper. Most of these happens with cross-generation ports like Last of Us from PS3 to PS4. If a "remaster" doesn't change or improve the texture, then I count it as a mere "port". Remake: A port that changed the polygon counts of the original model, so that hit detection, event triggers, and of course graphics will be better. Usually happens with ports that crossed at least 2 generations like PS2 to PS4, or from Gamecube to Wii U or from a less powerful handheld device to a more powerful console/PC of the same generation, like 3DS to Wii U... etc. If a "remake" doesn't improve the polygon counts, then I count it as a "remaster". Reforge: Whatever mess-up game that Blizzard cooked up.... From what we can see, the polygon count is DEFINITIVELY higher, and the games are 2 gens apart (Wii, Wii U, Switch). So I count it as a remake.
@@IanHsieh A port is more : taking a game that was already on another console and just adapt it to work on an other, Mario Kart 8 delux is a port. A remake is basicly remaking a game from A to Z ! Wind Waker HD is a remake, Trial of Mana is a remake, Final Fantasy 7 remake well is a remake also. So no I don't think that remakes are "ports".
@@IanHsieh A remake has to be in a new engine, otherwise it's just a facelift that re-uses the same base code. So Xenoblade DE would qualify as it's been moved to the Torna engine and re-coded for it. You can very easily rig higher-poly models to the original skeletons without really remaking any of the core content or gameplay.
@@IanHsieh Nah, a port refers to a specific build of a game. So, Dark Souls for example. The PS3, Xbox 360, and PC versions are all the same build of the game. However, a port specifically refers to a game that was made for a specific system. So, all of the games being brought to Switch that were released years ago are ports because they were originally designed for other systems then brought over later. Remasters also fall into the port category because it's made with a prior build of a game and brought over for a new system (PS3 to PS4). A remake, however, is totally different. It isn't just "a higher polygon count." They didn't just make new models, they made the entire game from scratch from the ground up. It's only a port if it was released for a specific console and then brought over to another later. And only the version brought over to a new console would be considered a port.
Now they look even MORE anime! I am conflicted about this because I’m used to and enjoy the more realistic look of the original but also like this look too.
@@OntosTorin Wait was it??? Wow I like distinctly remember Shulk saying it but now that you've said that I here it in Dunban's voice as well. Eh, guess I just need to play the game again ahaha
@@OntosTorin for some reason, I can hear it in my mind as well, although I do know that Dunban said it in the introduction (Battle at Sword Valley) iirc
This just reminds me how far ahead the GameCube really was in graphics. The Wii is just a souped up GameCube, remember, with more storage. That hardware developed in 2000 allowing such graphical horsepower still amazes me to this day.
No, that's just headgear that was equipped, the trailers for the new version are showing the characters (for the most part, which is to say that this doesn't apply to brand new scenes) in their default designs that they first appear with, such as Shulk having the look that he has in Smash Bros.
Given this is my favorite game EVER, I'm of two minds: 1. Why would you need to change the aesthetic? That was one of the standout things about the game: an anime-inspired JRPG that looked unique compared to its contemporaries. 2. Damn, that Xenoblade 2 engine really pops. Makes everything WAY cleaner.
Exactly how I feel. The "non-art-style" for the characters looked way more natural against the environment and lighting than the new anime style. I feel like it's lost what made it special, the uniqueness. But again, everything else just looks so damn good.
No. This is how this game suppesed to look from the beginning. Wii was just too shit to render something any better, so every character looked like a cardboard. You can't change something that was designed like this from the very beginning.
@@sirmiluch6856 Dude, it wasn't designed like this from the beginning, because they didn't have accurate staff for art and character design at the time. What we're saying is that we've grown attached to the way these characters looked in the original, and we find the change jarring. We feel like it's lost a bit of what made it unique with the anime style.
I really loved the original art of the characters, they were something unique!!! If you see the art of the characters, it matches the wii version a bit but bcoz of the low graphics, it couldn't make it accurately to that art, I guess. Idk if I am even making sense😂🙈. Even this definitive version, I am happy with it, it just looks more HD. In the end, I am happy with both 💕
@@squidlump It was distinct(as distinct an anime face could get), now it's just another bland bright eyes shounen. He looks even younger now, which makes the voice (even) more unfitting. Old face could at least still pass with the voice, this one is a hard sell.
It's an amazing upgrade, they have really brought the visuals up to date. Xenoblade always looked better than the Wii could show (play in HD on dolphin) But it's great to see it officially in HD and polished to a mirror finish =3
@@KayFiOSI've played on dolphin and this does so much dolphin can't like new models and a different engine with overhauled lighting and many more visual effects (not that I have a problem about how DE looks pf course)
Yes! I liked it bcoz it was unique to me back in 2010 but I never knew it's just melted on after I played it recently on my wii. I was like, "I dont remember it being that melted on."😂 it was funny. But I enjoyed the heck out of that game. The emotions brought out by those characters even tho their faces was like that, ugh i still loved it. There was this weird uniqueness to it.
@@CymruCreator the animations are mostly the same (perhaps slightly modified to account for different proportions) outside of facial stuff and maybe some other new details added to the models, so I'm guessing the neck thing might have been sloppy work with swapping the model
... is it wrong that i kinda like more the unfocused camera of the wii version? some things definitely look better but the overall aesthetic... maybe it's because i do have the original game and play it from time to time
The original has a different style I feel like. The remake has a different, more anime approach, with very different lighting. I wonder if this works out with the original designers intent.
Kai Knowing how ambitious the dev team was with this masterpiece, I wouldn’t be surprised that this is the case. The visual department was where the Wii struggled the most (in general) and they did absolutely everything they could’ve
@@giygaswashere2808 despite what many "hardcore" xeno 1 fans would tell you. If you take one look at the Xeno 1 art book, you'll know the original intent was to always have an anime styled game. The Wii just couldn't render for shit, despite the game looking amazing for its time and hardware limitation
@@OutsiderAus10 try telling that to the "hardcore" fans who were all up in arms bitching about Xeno 2's art style. When it was literally the same for Xeno 1. If anything, the Wii held it back from being full anime. Hell Xeno 1 had very anime-esque moments itself despite many fans thinking it doesn't.
I kind of wished they kept the semi realistic style and the same colour scheme, something about them looking fully Anime and the vibrant colours that throws me off.
I remember playing it when it was released in EU back in 2011, I was so hyped and loved every minute of it. Outside of Persona 3 this felt like the best AAA JRPG since the 5th gen. glory days of FF7-8-9, Tactics, Grandia, Lunar, Xenogears, Ogre Battle 64 and such. It still feels so fresh in my memory, yet it was 9 years ago... damn I feel old...
I snapped it right up when it finally came over to America - it's a clear highlight of my Wii collection, and I am psyched to be adding it to my Switch library in two months or so.
I feel like I should point out, despite the word being there near the top middle of the screen for a decent portion of the video, Xenoblade 1 looked like that *_on the Wii,_* which still somehow amazes me.
I only got around 40 hours in the game around 4 years ago, but it was some of the greatest 40 hours I've spent on a game. I'll finally get another chance to play this game again and hopefully all the way this time.
Can I be the first to say...I freaking love the vibrant colors on Metal Face and Xord! The bright red and blue make them more menacing then ever! So much better then the rusty-brown ugly look they had before! 👏👏👏
Wow, comparing the original with the definitive edition is almost like comparing an apple and a TV. I especially like how you can actually see the emotions of the characters.
It's so funny because this is literally my favorite game of all time, and when I saw it on the Direct a while ago I was like "This is exactly like the Wii version, I don't think they changed anything!" And now I see them side by side...like, wow. I guess my nostalgia made the old one look incredible because it kind of looks like a potato now lmao
I don't get everyone saying they'll miss the old faces. They looked like cardboard with no emotion on them. The update shows more clearly how they're actually feeling at each moment. At least that's how I feel.
No emotion ?? Excuse me, have you actually looked at the images ? If anything, the old faces feel more natural ( at least to me ), especially put with the realistic backgrounds and textures. In the new version, the characters and their faces really clash with the environment. And there's the matter of originality. In the old version, the art style was unique compared to other games, it still is, there's nothing quite like it. But the new version has a generic-ish anime style. And while it was probably what the creators originally wanted to do with the game, we actually grew attached to the old art style. Does that make sense ?
Look at Dunban and Sharla in the shots where they talk. They absolutely showed more emotion in the original version. The anime faces have these tiny plastic mouths that don't open wide enough, and less eye animation.
The remake looks like originally they should. But because of shitty Wii specs they couldn't do it like this. People are just too dumb to understand it. And the funniest part of it is that they are complaining that Japanese game is using Japanese artstyle. Comedy gold.
Minute 1:30 look at the facial expressions, at left side you can perceive its emotions, now look at the right side, is just a generic anime face that does not communicate the same emotions.
@@jed5356 but their face make character really look like different people. That's what you get from changing the designer. And the original artist work was WAY more interesting.
@@Daremodesu I GENUINELY miss the old style. I would have never played XC2 if it didn't have XC in the name. I just PRAY they don't Animu it. And throw in unnecessary animu tropes and "moments". For example, they ruined Nia's design and character by making her wear... that... as a blade.
@@whoananer so they make an inferior new game and the best previous entry has to change itself to be like the worse game ? That's some awful rule isn't it ?
Oh shit this is from Chugga's LP, you can tell because of the subtitle for the symbol on the Monado. (They credit him in the description so no worries!)
Would have been nice to have the day/night scenes synced up, but this shows enough. This upgrade is amazing and I'm so excited!! I do notice how much more "anime"-like the designs are compared to the original. I do really like the original designs, but the look of these new ones are just so much cleaner and nicer to look at.
Darkness helps loading, ram, framerate etc. Thats why some scenes are now during the day. But they need to never forget that that same thing can make the atmosphere of a game and removing the darkness in or during certain scenarios and areas can be detrimental. I prefer the introduction of the titans shrouded in darkness, the sky cloudy: it is immediately presented as ominous, mysterious, a little scary, and unknown, as it should be at the start. I wouldn't mind it so much if the new version was used after beating the game. It would be like a visual reward. (But please let there be an option to change weather/time of day in cutscenes, including the intro)
@@ShadowSkyX Most of the cutscenes were linked to the in-game time. Like the scene where Shulk is telling Sharla "This is the Monado's power!" can be found on here with the daytime background because they reached that cutscene during the day in the game. It makes the game that much more immersive, just like how outfits and all are reflected in the cutscenes too. But I agree that the darker lighting in the intro cutscene gave a more ominous tone. My guess it was originally like that to cover up the graphical limitations, and now we have a better lit cutscene with the Bionis and Mechonis fighting.
That´s how a faithful remake is done (looking at you, Final Fantasy VII). Pre-ordered the Collectors Edition. Looking forward to revisit this masterpiece.
Melia's mouth is so small now that she actually has a proper face model instead of a texture. Even though the remake just has proper expressions across the board, the OG faces does sometime have more fitting expressions.
@@corruptedteka the original game was crafted as itself and for itself. This edition is crafting it as a link to 2, and it shows how a bad influence it is.
@@Daremodesu To be clear. This is what the creators wanted to do from the start, but couldn't, due to lack of accurate staff. I understand that, and I don't think XC2 was a mistake or a bad thing. I just wish they'd kept it closer to the original style.
I'm incredibly happy I've put off a second play-through of this game since 2012. . . I knew in my heart of hearts that it was going to be remade eventually because of how brilliant it was, and here we are! Cannot wait to experience this world again in all of its glory, and more importantly for other people to finally have their fair chance at the experience as well.
You know, I didn’t think the original graphics were bad, I did like the somewhat rough look to it. But the new graphics are stellar! My only complaint is that everyone looks a bit more childish and somehow less expressive? I think? The bit with Sharla, I’m not getting the same kind of worried older sister vibe from her.
I don't agree on the less expressive part. I think they are way more expressive and you can much more easily tell what each character is feeling at each moment. With the old graphics I always thought their faces looked a bit like cardboard.
@@Firestar1992 yeah your right, in the old game their faces were pretty much pained on. although i do wish it wasn't just xenoblade 2's anime look where everyone is shiny with anime eyes. Xenoblade always felt different then anime to me and i wish they tried to make the style look like it's own thing. Although i am fine with this, and i think the mechon, especially Xord looks awesome
It's got something to do with the shading and the eyebrows. I just can't quite put my finger on it. It's also hard to compare the two when some of the scenes take place at different times of day. Things like their skin tones. I can't tell if some of them appear lighter because of a design change or if it has to do with the time.
You see, idk why people thought this was a remaster when this game was first originally revealed in last September's direct. It's obviously a remake but then again, I feel like people don't know the difference between remaster and remake.
Fabian Krummeich Oh well my take on it is this. Remasters of games is when they take the base game and just improve on the resolution & frame rate and other things of that nature. For example, Kingdom Hearts 1 on PlayStation 2, then Kingdom Hearts 1 in 1.5 HD collection on Playstayion 3 & 4. Another example can be Bioshock on Playstayion 3 & Xbox 360, and then they get remaster on Bioshock collection on PS4 & XB1. Now remakes is when they make a complete new game with a brand new engine and graphics and everything! For example, Pokémon Gold & Silver for game boy color, they get a brand new remake in Pokémon Heart Gold/Soul Silver for DS. Another example would be, Resident Evil 2 1998, and Resident Evil 2 Remake 2019. Hopefully this clarifies things. There’s also another step up from Remaster/Remake and that’s called “Reimagining” but that’s only for people that want to be fancy.
Rather then try to make it work with a more realistic look. It seems like Monolith used shaders and materials from Xenoblade 2. I think that's what let them develop the remaster fairly quickly and it also makes it more welcoming for people who started with the XC2. Either way, HYPE!!!
Oh please. You can tell you people don’t really watch anime. Anime is just a medium that includes a wide array of different art-styles. I’ll never get why “looking like anime” is a negative.
My favorite update to the graphics is how expressive the faces are now. Lip syncing is top notch now, whereas the original was comparable to Sonic Adventure 2. May 29 can’t come soon enough!
@@sirmiluch6856 Okay, don't miss the point. Of course they look miles better than something that was created on the Wii. What I'm saying is that, regardless of graphics, I feel like they could've adapted the art style differently. Then again, they can't please everyone, so I'm okay with it.
Going further then just upscaling and adding effects they actually redrew/remade all the textures which while some may say changes the style to detriment i say works into the benefit of its intended audience. and also makes shulk look alot closer to his smash incarnation which at least a few people originally know him from
am I the only one who thinks that in the original version the characters are much more expressive than in the remake? I know they have many more polygons and that the colors are more vibrant but the facial animation seems a little bit off... I mean look at Sharla, in the original she is visibly more restless and surprised. Even Dumban when he shouts is way better in the original ...
I really feel they lost bit of personality with these changes. Yes, it looks prettier, but they now have default anime faces and the maturity and grit expressed through their faces of the original version is mostly gone.
Of course its so much better graphically, but I don't like how much the characters pop out in DE. The subtle outlines and much brighter color pallete on exclusively the characters is odd, i liked how in the original it all blended together with the surroundings and the lighting nicely
It’s essentially the best form of a remaster you can get, but it isn’t a remake. The animations for the models are the same which means they’re still using the old assets. Which makes it a remaster. A remake, by definition, is something complete redone from the ground up. Like Final Fantasy 7 Remake. That’s a remake. But this is just a really well done remaster.
I like how the bionis' Monaco at the beginning is rendered at the beginning of the original a little more because there's so much light in the new version that you can't tell it's a monado at all, also the galaxy in the center is a really nice touch.
