I was expecting something more like collective consciousness, in that he tears away the mechonis sword and uses it to slowly hack the mechonis into pieces.
Memes, aside, this is a great animation, and I feel like Dunban mentoring Shulk on how to fight with the Monado is something that totally should have happened in the actual game. It just makes sense!
It didn’t cuz shulk was already better with it the from the beginning due to visions. Even if shulk is a less experienced fighter then dunban the ability predict your opponent’s every move is a significant advantage. Dunban would only beat shulk if he didn’t wield the monado even this early where he’s like double shulk’s level if they actually went all out rather then just spar due to visions. It’d have to be before shulk actually used the weapon to make any sense and still had the junk sword he had before if dunban actually were to have a moment where he taught shulk sword play in a dual and won.
Apparently Dunban did train him at some point. I'm not sure if it was before or after the first game's story, but the Founder statues in Xenoblade 3 imply both Shulk and Rex began to resemble their mentors as adults.
I love it. I might be the first to say that this animation really reminds me of Monty Oum's work. His style has this certain air to it, and it unfortunately basically died with him. I don't know of many animators that could do what he did, but it really does remind me of his work.
The fact thats shulk's sword could actually be implemented in the rwby-verse via dust crysrals along with Shulk's foresight as a semblance, I would think that he would fit right in as a huntsman.
@Jonathan Xavier Troche-Diodonet Indeed, heck, a lot of _Xeno_ series characters could be easily adapted, or at least their weapons (Sena's Comet Mallet comes to mind), would definitely be pretty fun to see!
Well you might just have a good eye, I know for a fact that at least some of the animation in this isn't actually original, for example the animations between 0.43 to 0.48 are lifted pretty much wholesale from Shulk's smash reveal trailer so it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of the other animation in here also comes from other places- it might literally be a portion of Monty's animation with Shulk's model applied to it for instance and that's what's making you think of it. I don't know that for sure, but I do think it's somewhat likely, if he's willing to copy some I don't see why he wouldn't be willing to copy a bit more.
I can see where your coming from, since monty oum combat animation relies on photographic parralel lines to create that effect which this does use at times
Dunban confronts Shulk to win and make Shulk decide to stay with Fiora and carry on Dunban's bloodline. -2022, before Z, colorized Also, that was a sick animation
An amendment to my old comment! It is before the conception of Nikol! Unless he and Crys are brothers. Still, Dunban, your dream did come true! You are an uncle!
Shulk wanted to tinker with machines and dick around. Dunban wanted him to be a dad with Fiora, Shulk lost the duel and thus Crys the Kevan offset is born :p
The duality of a well animated fight scene with a lot of references and a Jetstream Sam png smiling into the camera as a Monado Art, straight up meme/shitpost material... I respect it
I can honestly see this happening in the game. Dunban, a war veteran with experience with the Monado, teaching Shulk, a newbie in using the Monado and fighting as a whole, how to fight more effectively.
This is fantastic! Reminds me of early Monty Oum fight scenes, especially the first two RWBY trailers. Keep up the great work, and consider me subscribed! Can't wait to see what you have next.
we honestly need more Shulk doing normal action fight scene stuff with the Monado. You also nailed the master student bond Dunban and him have, sick animation!
I think this might be the most high quality animation ive ever seen. And it completes the part of me thats wanted to see more serious animations from the xenoblade fandom. So thank you for gifting this to us
This had me thinking this was a real cutscene with Dunban and Shulk sparring, the music just sounded like it was just added in. you must have some real talent
This looks like a legit scene. Either it’s an actual spar or Dunban is trying to stop Shulk from doing something stupid and rethink his values and goals.
