Not only does it bring manufacturing jobs, but it will give a bit more autonomy to the Australian military and not relying on outsourcing to the U.S./U.K./France will allow them to be more self-sufficient. Taiwan not part of China until the Ching Dynasty sent troops to conquer it. Then very shortly after, the Ching agreed to surrender Taiwan to Japan as they were defeated in a war with Japan. After US defeated Japan in 1945, UN agreed Taiwan to be independent, Taiwan had never been a part of the old Chinese Nationalist Party, CNP retreated to Taiwan as refugees more or less, similar to the Afghans retreated to other lands when the Talibans came in.
