After watching about 1 trillion camera comparisons I must say you absolutely smashed it bro... the shots are stunning and I think the decision I'll have to make has gotten a lot easier. Greets from Germany!
Hey, thank you so much, I appreciate the kind words ☺️ and yes I do believe that the best way to test a phone is to take it into the real world and see how it performs 👍
I use a VIVO x100pro and a dedicated camera for street photography and I can tell you that it looks impressive on a small screen however if you open the pictures on a larger monitor you can see a lot of noise and lack of details from the phone. Still enjoy using both but a mediocre second hand camera with a kit lens for day time photography beats a phone.
Finally found someone show xiaomi14 Ultra and show how good the photo and the real situvation faced , taking random people photo , show how clear and fast even just pure like sniper shot without themself being in position of taking photo instead of many joker just talk talk talk take photo randomly or duno what even themself taking, it is annoying no point at all.
I really like your photographic approach with this personal retouching in post production. On this subject, it would be interesting to show us first the photo that comes out of the camera and then the photo with your personal retouch. It would be more editing work but transparency with your audience is important. Greetings !
Thank you 😊 really appreciate the kind words and glad you're enjoying the shots, personally my favourite is photo 6 I just love the lightness of the situation and the emotions conveyed by the hand gestures 👍
Amazing photos! I particularly appreciate you sharing your settings on each photo. You should offer a tutorial on how to use different sets on different situations with the X14U
I mean the phone's quality seems to be insane - but i also really like your editing and in some photos I would have done the composition just as you did ^^
Hi, I've been waiting for the Pixel 9 Pro, but I'm really distracted with the Pixel. Do you think it's still worth buying the 14 Ultra or wait for the 15 Ultra? Thanks in advance.
Hi I think it's all down to preferences and use case, if you're starting in photography or you're not that into photography then a phone like a pixel, a Samsung or iPhone would be more than enough. If you are a photographer and know the principles already and know your way around shooting in RAW full manual then the Xiaomi 14 ultra currently is unbeatable as a whole. The 15 ultra is sadly said to use one of those all in one zooms which I'm not a fan of due to loss of native depth of field but time will tell if the rumours are true about the 15. For now the 14 ultra can be had at a cracking price. Hope that helps 👍
Hey, thanks for the answer. I just want a great camera nothing more. I know some principles of photography but I think I need to learn a lot of things. But seeing your great photos specially in your video where you shoot nature. I just want a 14 Ultra. :)
Wowww....did you use just the camera app and filter from the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, or are you using your professional custom preset? It's an insane good review!"
Some are, yes. I tend to increase what's already there as opposed to making it all up from scratch as it tends to look unnatural and unconvincing otherwise. Masking and reducing clarity / sharpness is one way to do it, lens blur only if subject is very well detached from the background already as it can be hit and miss in its current form. If I'm pretty close to a subject using the telephoto lens then there is no need for any "trickery" since natural depth of field kicks in as can be seen from some close up shots in the video. Hope that all makes sense 😊
@@UpsideLens it does make sense! I usually use the blue tool to very slightly boost up the background blur when I do phone shots but it is very bad when it comes to hair or other irregular lines. But if you are able to capture those shots with this phone and slightly tweak it afterwards to make it look like that, then I wouldn't mind spending the time to do it
It really is down to having a good base to work with, like I said much easier and cleaner to have the basis right than have to make it all up. Including some foreground and having different depth elements in the shot really helps make a balanced and more "3D" like photo 👍
Just like I would process any raw file taken with any camera, I start with basic correction, masking and colour grading. I put out a video a while ago about how I edit my photos go check it out 👌
Hey, I tapped and locked focus on the ground where the subject would walk to ensure pin sharp focus 👍 EDIT: On a regular camera I would have probably got away with doing it in auto focus but when shooting with phones I try not to leave anything to chance... 😉
Do you shoot in ultra raw? Also do you use phone filters or edit in photoshop? It turned up nice, I am learning how to get max from my 14U. I wish we were able to shoot in 50MPx jpg plus ultra raw at the same time with tele and super tele. Well, maybe with some next update...
Hi, no I do not use ultra raw as it adds extra processing to the photos and ultimately adds extra shutter lag (due to the extra processing) I do not use filters, I just shoot RAW and edit in lightroom classic afterwards. I tend to avoid 50mp mode as it just adds more artefacts to the output. I tend to use if shooting in macro jpg to allow for a little extra cropping range but again, artefacts creep in fairly quick.
@@UpsideLens No idea what the full difference between RAW and ultra RAW is. It would be nice if they gave more info about it. I only noticed in dark room, that closeups are much better in ultra RAW, more detailed, less noise, but it didn't looked too much processed to me. But there could be some image stacking going on as it has much more details and less noise. At least in my testing photos. Agree with 50mpx, but I noticed that when I zoom out to 50%, the photo has often more details. Mostly in nature, small flowers in grass etc. Looks like it looses some fine details in binning process. Not that much, but there is still some small difference. I mostly shoot in vibrant mode, but with leica NAT filter.
Hi I use Lightroom Classic on Mac and yes I have made an hour long video a while back where I go through the entire edit process of some of my raw shots, go check it out 👍 I also have a pack of presets available to make edits quicker if you're interested, link is in the description 👌
Basically it always uses the full sensor then down samples it to 12mp. However you can use the 50mp mode and you end up with the full 50mp but that's only good if used in good lighting.
@@UpsideLens B7ut the RAW Pictures (when used) are always full size images?! I kinda get the point to use the downsampled image. My Xiaomi 12 also has a 50mp sensor. and i placed the 50mp button right next to Photo, so i can get my full sized images. But when i like to set it as standart, there isnt a option for that.
Greetings! I would like to ask, if you put a dolby vision 4K/60 fps video recorded by this phone on mediainfo, does it say that it's dolby vision only or does it say it's hlg or hdr10, too? Also, if you put it on a non dolby vision tv, is it shown on sdr?
@Γιάννης-κ7σ I mean you can record straight to HDR if you'd like, look into a third party app called mcpro24fps they allow to record in so many different formats and the quality is much higher than the stock app as it bypasses the ISP processing 👍
Hey, that's the Xiaomi mate 👍 I have noticed the phone case and filter adapter ring keeps making a rattling noise I'm not too keen on but it does produce some beautiful videos !
Thank you really appreciate however I don't use filters, I use lightroom Classic to colour grade my photos 😊 will have many more POV videos with the Xiaomi soon, stay tuned 👍
Durability ? In what sense ? Apart from folding phones which are very prone to failing not much can go wrong, just like an iPhone ! In terms of "airdrop" Google has implemented their version of it called quick share. As a matter of fact after downloading an app on Mac called nearby share it works exactly like airdrop would on iPhone. Personally I couldn't have an iPhone as a daily driver, way too many barriers, android being open you have many more functionalities and it's not as "wallgardened" as Apple.
@@UpsideLensT@@UpsideLensyour opinion, really appreciate it 🙏😊 @@UpsideLens still@@UpsideLens (coz ai love photography)@@UpsideLens Plus, it‘s also not that cheap.
When doing comparisons between phones or testing absolutely, here the emphasis is on the finished art / photo. You wouldn't ask a painter to show you the canvas before they've painted it would you ? 😉
Hey, it all depends on the photo. Normally when I shoot a photo I already have in mind how I want it to look like so it's just a matter of colour grading it in Lightroom Classic but having colour graded hundreds of photos I definitely have my favourite styles. I made a pack of starting points / presets based on my favourite types of edits and the link is in the description of my more recent videos 👍 hope it helps. Thanks ☺️
Thank you 😊 they're also on IG. I'm still toying with the idea of having a RU-vid membership where I can share the raw file of all the photos I take for each video, since it's something a lot of people have asked for so will be looking into it in the future 👍 I edit all my photos in Lightroom and if you're interested I have made a pack of presets (link in the description).
But all these pictures are taken manually I would love to see how this camera performed in point and shoot scenario, because most of the users will use point and shoot.
I have made a video comparing this phone to other phones in regular jpg but this channel focuses on actual photography as opposed to point and shoot jpg automatic mode.
@@UpsideLens maybe it's even fair to say those looking for point & shoot to go after other products like Samsung, iPhone etc. This one phone is mainly for Pro working on manual
I would agree with this yes. The automatic jpg mode is not that great on the Xiaomi but to be honest can't think of a single phone that does ! It's the nature of the best, you shoot in auto jpg for quick random daily photos you need, kids, dog and whatever and then shoot raw and manual for actual photography. People just don't understand that shooting in auto jpg on a phone is completely different to shooting auto on an actual camera ! The harsh processing you get on a phone when shooting in auto jpg just doesn't cut it.
The black and white photo with pigeons under the arch was magnificent. What a photo. I can't believe that this phone takes photos this good!!😮 Keep up the good work.👍🏿
It depends, if you want to be locked into an ecosystem and have overpriced ancient hardware you go for Apple, if you want the latest and greatest when it comes to camera hardware you DONT go with apple, simple 🤷
man, there is a lot of people in this world who wants to know how videos looks on. get out from the photographer zone please. nobody is interested in photos now a days. go for videos.
