I love that picture of Guilliman, Magnus, the solar auxilia , the thousand suns and ultramarines all just hanging out. It's one of the few times we get to really see what we lost because of the heresy. (or at least the important stuff that was lost)

Theoretical: The Ultramarines are overhyped poster boys of the setting. Practical: Their geneseed is stable, all of their implanted organs work, and they can adapt quickly when needed. They are on posters for good reason.

Given how close the character of Oculus is to the Avenging Son, I’m surprised it’s taken this long. It makes it so much better to finally get the record of the War-Born, the scions of the 500 Worlds.

It's undeniably Warhammer 40,000 when competent professionalism is seen as a virtually unique attribute unheard of amongst all of the Imperium's armies.

I unironically love the Ultramarines. They are a bastion of sanity in a sea of madness.

I always felt that the Ultramarines were built to be soldiers, where other legions tended to be formed more as warriors if that makes sense. I actually really like the ultramarines for the contrast they provide to (some) of the other legions.

In the end, 13 did end up being unlucky. That is if you're told you'd be going against the 13th legion you are very unlucky

Three cheers for the Reasonable Marines. It's also worth noting that Guilliman really, really wanted to kill Gallan, but relented at the last moment and left his fate to the Senate. They were so impressed by Guilliman's restraint when realistically nobody could have stopped him that they would go on to promote Konor's dream of their own volition.

This video has given me a new appreciation for the idea of a Lorgar-Guilliman rivalry. Beforehand, the rivalry seemed a touch random, but Oculus really touches on an element you can see in both primarchs - i.e. massive reformation of a planets infrastructure to their vision.

7:57 "[...] the Emperor's genetic authority, the Lord of Lightning's command over the human genome itself", idk, this sentence really drives home the level of authoritarian horror the imperium is even in this early stages. I can't help but see its character condensed here - the drive for ultimate control over everything, even the molecules that make up its subjects...

I love how the Space Marines were supposed to be replacements for the Thunder Warriors, because the Thundies kept going nuts and attacking people, and yet only the Ultramarines actually did as they were told reliably.

I feel like I have always discounted Robotnik Gazpacho and his legion because theyre the 'poster boys' of the Imperium. This video gave me insight into them I'd never even considered

I pen my now customary correspondence to you from my humble scriptorium by the light of my flickering lumin after reviewing your latest report on these paragons of the divine Emperor's angels, the Ultramarines. I must say, this most honoured of chapters is a very popular subject of my students at the schola, as well as the citizens of our hive. As you rightly point out, the astartes of the 13th legion had been recruited from many diverse and, to be blunt intractable, populations of the Unification wars Terra. It may not be known in these days of glorious unity on our most Holy homeworld but the population of the Eir plateau were a people of stubborn tradition and uncompromising independence, traits that the castrum-holds of Old Albia struggled to cope with. It is said that the "Ironside" power armour, a precursor of the Mk1 power armour type famously used by the Emperor's Thunder Warriors, was developed to combat the "Gael" strike warriors of the Eir clan forts. With the coming of the Emperor's legions, the Eir clans, also known in Imperial records as the "Hoth-grendal", resisted compliance and were brought low swiftly by his most glorious forces, in the main his ever victorious Thunder Warriors, yet not completely. Unfortunately, much to the eternal shame of those of the Eir-district who are aware of the past, the clans were bruised, but not broken, and engaged in guerrilla warfare and vile terrorism against the Unification authorities. And so, at the behest of the Hive-Lords of Albia and those Eir clan chiefs that accepted the Emperor's divine and rightful rule, the youths of those reticent clans were inducted into the Warborn, later to be known as the Ultramarines. In this enlightened policy, our region became forever tied to this most glorious and honoured legion, later chapter and those recruited into this grand brotherhood kept the marshal customs and traditions of their origin. In fact, later, once the wise Primarch, Roboute Gilliman, divided the legion into chapters, several of them with ties back to Eir, brought forth these old traditions of the Gael warriors and the traditions older still, maintaining their ancient link back to the plateau from which they arose. Even today, at the Grand Emerald Basilica of Dub-hive, the ceremony of the Azur Shield reminds all the faithful throughout the hive of our proud connection to this legendary legion and the chapters that were raised from our soil. And so, my most esteemed master, I once again must give my most humble thanks for this comprehensive history, which resonates so completely throughout our hive, so much so the warcry of those worthy sons of Gilliman echoes throughtout our halls "We march for Macragge". I can’t believe all this time I didn’t know that Guilliman was an allegorical Augustus Caesar. I knew they had a deep Roman aesthetic, but I never read his books, once Oculus got to the part where his dad was murdered in the Senate I was like Ohhhhhhhhhhh

My first Space Marine colour scheme. First 2nd edition codex. While the 40k version is vanillarily cast. 30k has such a rich background. Once again it is in the titbits you have sprinkled through your many record stacks that have whetted my appetite for this legion. Thank you so much :)

When I first started collecting and playing 40k a couple years ago, I ask my friend who was a seasoned player of the table top game if there are any loyalist primarch models. He said Bobby G. I was like yeah, those are my dudes. Been having fun with them ever since.

When that time is nearing once again, the inevitable spilling of blood might be a problem for other godly entities. Not so for the Emperor, though, because other godly entities are using just common Speesh Mareenz, whereas the Emperor is using _always_ Ultra!
