Hong Kong was also the issue that opened my eyes to the horrible misinformation campaign going on in the West. I was studying my master's there at the time. The campus was ransacked by angry students. It was even evacuated at one point for bomb threats. Yet none of this was reported on, just as the various stabbings, bombs, and general destruction of the city's infrastructure by the "protestors", were not. Each day I was reading a morning newsletter about China (Supchina for anyone curious), and they would consistently avoid reporting on any of these events, and instead simply reiterate that Beijing was somehow the malicious party, without any real evidence or facts. At that point I started digging deeper and found out that practically everything I had known about China was untrue, be it Xinjiang, Tiananmen, Tibet, you name it - upon deeper inspection, my country, the US, always had their hand in these situations, trying to foment unrest from within. At that point I lost a little respect for my country, and it's also a goal of mine to share my experiences with my fellow countrypeople, most of whom are still drowning in misinformation. Thank your Daniel, for what you do. You are an inspiration.

I lived in HK post-97 and it’s the freest place on earth. Safe, and the police were the most open-minded and professional in the world. During the riots, they maintained their professionalism and most importantly - restraint.
I agree but personally i think too much restrain. If it happened in Msia where i live, those rioters would have been beaten to a pulp, dragged off the street, pushed into the police truck and thrown into jail for a few days to a week.
If these rioters were in US, then they would be shot or ran over by police cruiser like ones that were killed at capital hill protest at Washington DC. So much difference in police brutality done by US democratic regime and yet they project the Chinese to be human rights abusers.

Like Daniel on RU-vid, I put in a great deal of time and energy into defending and promoting China on Quora. I don't get paid by the Chinese government. I don't make a nickel. I do it for honesty's sake, for truth's sake, for the sake of ratcheting down the tension between America and China which may lead to war. And like Daniel, I'm also Canadian. The MAIN reason why the USA western media falsely accuses CHINA of mistreating Uyghur Muslims is because they want to prevent the 1.6 Billion Chinese worldwide and 2.0 Billion Muslims from working together. @@SoCal760 I was also very disappointed when Jimmy Dore started pushing the Wuhan lab leak conspiracy, without really understanding what he was talking about. I also reminded him the when one "pushes the narrative of the MIC, they are working against the interests of humanity". However, I would say " Never say never" on having him adopt a more positive view of the PRC. I myself had a negative attitude about China until fairly recently, when I started to watch travel videos by vloggers who actually lived in the country (starting with Daniel).

can confirm, ethnic minority here, when I was in college I was the only one who has sibling in my class given all the other students were Han Chinese. growing up in minority autonomous administrative zone and schooling in minority school, I took it for granted that having a sibling was a natural thing, haven't given much thought to that before college
As a Chinese person I am deeply impressed by the integrity and truthfulness shown in this interview, I couldn't have debunked all the misinformation that mainstream western media has fabricated about China in a better way. She is a young Chinese woman educated in Switzerland who speaks English as well as her native Mandarin. You're absolutely correct about 'in your face' homelessness in Canada, here we are one year later, and my small city of 4,000, has homless people living in the streets, up the mountains, along the rivers. Never in my life (64 years) did i think that i would see this in my home town, and it is just increasing!

It's also been revealed by a Chinese news media Global Times few weeks or a month ago that these so-called human rights advocacy groups and NGOs were actually conspiring to invent "reality" of slave labor situation in Xinjiang by blackmailed, threaten and extorted numerous Chinese companies they've met so that they could allow them doing "investigation" over the factories, read: making up lies and smears as they please. But when the companies in question along with Chinese authority and law groups found out about their lies, they conveniently denied any responsibility and in turn growing more and more hostile against them and China in general🙃🤦
The west likes to virtue signal like a side of fries with their consumerism orders. They have no problem with China dealing with the manufacturing and then recycling, among other countries, but the west likes to stand on their pedestal pointing at China's pollution and dismissing their own contribution to that very pollution while they flaunt their clean countries. They like the benefits of Mexicans picking their crops so long as the "help" scurries back to their side of the border before they wreck the view for the white man.

I lived and worked in China for 4 years. I have a little understanding of the cost of living in China. People in the West kept making the mistake of converting Chinese income into their own local currency. That made Chinese income look very low. Chinese spend Chinese income in China using Chinese money. That Chinese income now goes a longer way. People in the West have to understand the concept of "Purchasing Power Parity".
I always found it suspicious when Pompeo went to HK with a group of young “assistants” just prior to the riots and after he left the demonstrations started and there were all these brand new US and Trump flags, and printed posters and banners. Once the rioting started these same young rioters were equipped with helmets, and organized tactics that seemed more like these strategies were given to them by some one of intel knowledge (US/NED). I always felt the entire thing was orchestrated, organized, funded, supplied and advised. Was done by the US/NED. PS: trump flags? Pompeo head of the CIA and the NED (a front of the CIA) shows up and then there’s 100s of trump flags. Yeah some coincidence
Also the OFF - Oslo Freedom Forum, another NGO that specialises in "colour revolution". Indeed, some HK activists, including a certain female pop artist, were seen being trained by them. That was a BBC programme hosted by their journalist Laura Kuenssberg well before the 2019 riots. Ironically, quite early on in the riots BBC actually re-aired this programme, perhaps thinking it was relevant, but very soon after it was never seen or mentioned again!

I'm a Hongkong resident. I used to trust what was reported in Western media. Not anymore after 2019! I n many HKers are totally awakened. I've since become a patriot of my country China. I love my country. I admire what my country's doing to improve their quality of life. I'm proud to be Chinese!
